MEETS TO ELECT OFFICERS Eve Levesque The annual election of officers which didn't come off the 1st Sunday in August will take place at 8 p.m. tonight (Thursday) in the beachhouse. It is imperative that every member attend -so that a slate of dedicated people can carry on the vital, work of the organization which maintains the beach and park. Everyone likes to use the facilities, but far too few are carrying the burden of supporting the obligations. In order to cast a ballot, you must be a member in good standing. However, you can attend the meeting tonight and pay your dues at this time and will be eligible. New members can be received and are also eligible to vote. . Many important items of business need action also and these will be brought before the assembly. Will YOU be there? Summer Resident Succumbs An illness of a terminal nature claimed the life of Mrs. Mary Palumbo, about 54, last week Wednesday. She had been ill for some time and hospitalized at intervals, but at the time of her death she was at home. Services for the widow were held on Saturday with funeral Mass at St. Boniface's at 9:30 a.m. and interment in St. Adelbert's cemetery, Niles. She is survived by one son, Ray Angelski. The Palumbos owned their cottage on W. Orchard Drive for about 10 years. Mr. Palumbo died in 1951. "Child" Bride and Groom Wed 25 Years Only 16 years old was Sally Hocin when she and Tony said "I do" 25 years ago, Aug. 9. They were married in Crown Point, Ind., in 1937. She turnone grandchild. Their eldest - Judi, is now Mrs. David Young and the mother of almost year old Scotty. Next in line is Anthony, Jr. - 21 and presently somewhere at sea in the service of the United States Navy. All the rest reside at home, including Teddy, 19, Jeanne, 16, Jeanette, almost 14, Sally, 12; Alex, 10; Jimmy, 6; and Timmy, 2. One son, Allen, died in 1954 at age 5Vfe months. The Hocins have been residents since Sept., 1950, and for a short while, Tony served as a member of the local "gendarmes". Sally is a member of the Ladies of the Lake and they are members of the Cullom- Knoll Assodiation. They had planned a small celebration but the death of their dear friend, Mary Palumbo, the day before put the "kibosh" on that. Instead, they had a cookout for the family. Among the many lovely gifts was a huge baby carnation .arrangement from Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dean and a handsome silver tray with 25 silver dollars from son, Teddy. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Adams called to offer their congrats and brought a huge cake which Mickey had baked. It was about 24 inches in length, 18 inches wide with trimmings suitable for the occasion. We wish Sally and Tony every happiness as they start on their journey towards their GOLDEN year! Screwy Dozen "Invites" Are Out The invitations for the "Screwy Dozen" reunion have been mailed and should be received this week. Gathering Of The Clan It was practically "open house" at the home of Barbara and Joe DeMar on Sunday with relatives arriving from far and near. Their daughter, Mary, who is attending St. Mary's Convent in Prairie du Chien, Wis., spent three weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hawk, Joe's cousins and was brought home by the Hawks. Bob Hawk is the well known radio announcer on the staff at WCFL. The couple stayed with the DeMars until Tuesday. Also present were Joe's brother and wife, Col. John and Jean DeMar. He was stationed at the^ Pentagon in Washington witfi the Signal Corps. They are now residing in Arlington Heights and waiting for new orders. Condition Worsens A call received at noon on Monday informed us that Charles Temple, the son-in-law of Sally Olsen, was rushed back to St. Anne's hospital in critical condition. She and husband, Theodor, drove into the city immediately to be with Sally's daughter, Gertrude. Charley, who is a teacher at Steinmetz high school, has been battling a serious infection for several months. The women are members of the Mary and Sarah Circles of the Community Methodist church and met for a day of fun 'N' sun. The fortythree youngsters ranged in age from 10 months to 12 years. The women brought picnic lunches and mothers and kiddies were dressed for swimming and sunning. Those present included Laura Belford, Louise Winters, Nancy Ewald, Veretta Gerstad, Joy Dass, Lorraine Thomas, Harriet Marshall, Barbara Meurer, Shirley George, Jan Kozy, Sandy Leonard, Marilyn Bohl, Shirley Blumberg, and Margaret Lightner. About 3:30, they all started to scamper for home, in time to have dinner on the table at the usual time! A real fine person, she was the guest at the norne of Marge and Ole Olsen last week. She is their son Tom's godmother. Even with two J Tommys under one roof, they managed to keep things straight. Marge served a tasty luncheon last week which Sally Olsen and I were fortunate enough to attend, in her guest's honor. Mrs. Thomas climbed aboard the Greyhound bus on Friday night for the long trip home, and we can bet her companions on the trip were well entertained! Two more batches of company are expected at the Olsen home this month. Attend Governor's Day Theresa Schultz, daughter, Lynne, and Mrs. Irene Sales were scheduled to be in Springfield today to attend the democratic convention during the state fair. Helen Boettcher, Luau Queen Helen Boettcher was crown-- ed 'Queen Helen' at the Hoik day Hills Woman's Club Lu^u held at the Mahon home oq Birch street. Never knew we had so many 'Islanders' here. The gals came out in their muu muus, sarongs and grass skirts. The committee created the atmosphere with flowers strewn all over, palm leaves, and even the cub scouts helped by letting us use their stuffed pig that they had for their luau. Hawaiian music played in the background while the ladie9, sitting on cushions on the floor, enjoyed punch and an island fruit salad served from melon bowls. Our utensils were bamboo sticks. Each lady was presented with a lei when she arrived to complete the feeling that we were really in the islands. The gals who worked so hard on this enjoyable evening were Virginia Lundelius, Mary Mahon and her mom, Mrs. Rackwolski who made the leis. Eunice Heise, Midge Teuber, Gloria Smith and Mary Mahon were hostesses for the Luau. Weeds! Say, doesn't it look nice to see the weeds, which had all but taken us over, going down? Just in case you wondered, or don't know how this is being done, I'd like to explain. This tractor, which is being used, is now the property of the Holiday Hills Property Owners Association. It heis been purchased by them. The men running the tractor are volunteers who want to see Holiday Hills improved. If any of you have the ability or know how to run a tractor, and would like to help, call either Mr. Postal or Mr. Harper. Kindergarten Bus Fare Each year we need one or two mothers who will volunteer to collect the fare for the bus that comes in for the children in kindergarten. This year we already have two mothers who volunteered. ' They are Chady Ary and Kay MacWilliams. If you have a youngster going into kindergarten this year give either of these ladies a call for further details. Bryan Walks on 1st Birthday Bryan Malzahn took his first steps on his first birthday, July 20. A party was given in honor of the big occasion on Sunday, July 22. Get Well Wishes We're sending get well wishes to Elmer Mettelka who is now at home after a stay and many tests at MrHenry hospital. Elm will be going to a Chicago hospital" for further tests soon. We're all hoping they find the trouble soon, Elm so you and everyone else can relax. We'd also like to report that after the Woman's club received a lovely note from Ellen Erickson about how she wished she could have attended the Luau we decided to take it to her. On Thursday Mary Mahon, Vi Abbink and I went over for a visit and took salad and nut breads, flowers and a lei so she could enjoy the Luau also. I'm pleased to report that Mrs. Erickson is coming along nicely. She is following doctors orders and resting some and even doing some of her work little by little. Her granddaughter, Kris, Jack's daughter was doing a fine job of 'Grandma sitting'. The one worry of Mrs. Erickson now is that her youngest son, Eddie, is in the hospital now and she can't get out to see him. Tom Ary Celebrates Tom Ary celebrated his ninth birthday with a party on Aug. 3. On the program were a picnic supper, games and dancing for ten of his friends.
