All Stars at Lakeland Park, Saturday, Aug. 25 at 3 p.m. On Sunday, Aug. 26, Wonder Lake All Stars and Lakeland Park All Stars will play at Wonder Lake at 3 p.m. In the game last week with McCullom Lake, our Lakeland Park All Stars won 17 to 4 with Newendorp the winning pitcher. On Sunday evening, Ihe All Stars played a McHenry team and won 9 to 7 with Bottari the winning pitcher. On Sunday afternoon the coaches beat the All Star 10am, but from the sound of all. the puffing and panting, I think it was the coaches that were "beat". The mothers played their sons in a game following and ended up with a lie score, 11 to 11. and going back and forth visit ing. In the evenings they played their favorite game, Pin ochle and you guessed right the gals trimmed the tar out of the boys. All in all, they had a grand time. The Hammonds now reside in Braden ton, Fla. Community House' Schedule Aug. 27, Monday -- 8 p.m. Regular board meeting, Tuesday Aug.. 28. 9 to 12. Dancing classes, evening - Boy Scouts. Belated Happy Birthday wishes to Johnny Arient who became 10 on Aug. 20. Sorry we missed your birthday John. Happy Birthday Wishes • Happy birthday to "Chip" Grizely who will be 1 year old on Aug. 23. to David Wahnrade who will be 5 on Aug. 24, and to Holly Arient and Meg Humann who will both be 3 years old on Aug. 24. Also to John Arient and Gloria Vanek who share the same day of Aug. 25. Best wishes and many more happy birthdays to you all. Birthday Doings Esther Cygan was hostess to a birthday party last Tuesday, August 14, in honor of Gloria Flannigans birthday. Those attending were Vickey Bottari. Elaine Jett, Marge Franklin, Ruth Roach, Dorothy Humphreys and Millie Pintozzi. Those unable to attend were Jean Parisi, Fran Cina and Rita Zimny. Esther prepared a delicious birthday cake and coffee cake which was enjoyed by all. On Thursday the girls all went to Elaine Jett's home to celebrate , Esther Cygan's birthday. Those attending this party were Gloria Flannigan, Millie Pintozzi, Vickey Bottari, Ruth Roach, Marge Franklin. Dorothy Humphreys and of course Esther. Elaine had prepared a delicious chocolate whip- cream cake and pound cake which the • gals enjoyed alsa Happy Anniversary to Gloria and John Flannigan on their fifteenth wedding anniversary on Aug. 23. May you have many more years of wedded bliss. Get Well Wishes go to Vera Baumgartner who is in McHenry hospital. Pink Bundles Irwin and Dottie Becker are the proud parents of a wee little girl. Margaret Mary was born at the Woodstock hospital on Wednesday, Aug. 15, and tipped the scales at 6 lb. 4 oz. and is 19 inches long. Happy over their new sister is Kathy, Mary Ellen and Kenneth. Also, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Becker. Sr.. of Chicago and George Cox also of Chicago. Ann and Richard Wahnrade became the proud parents of a little baby girl on Friday, Aug. 17, at the McHenry hospital. Jill Edith weighed in at 7% lbs. and was 21" long. Waiting at Grandma Wahnrades for their little sister are Robbie 7, David who will be 5 on Saturday and Scott who is 3. Congratulations to you both. Demonstration Twenty-four ladies attended the demonstration at the community house on Monday morning, Aug. 13. This demonstration was sponsored by the welcome committee, for the benefit of the Lakeland Park Women's club. The demonstration was followed by a luncheon served by the girls on the welcome committee. And, our Lakeland Park Women's club will be a little richer due to the efforts of the welcome committee. Winding Strips Please continue to save the winding strips and instant coffee labels for Lyda Radisch as our club really needs the new coffee urns. Wedding Bells The former Sandy Glosson and Roger May were wed at St. Mary's church at 11:30 a.m. Saturday morning Aug. 18 in a nuptial Mass. Standing up for the couple were Joyce Quaiver as maid of honor, and Sandy's sisters, Diane and Shirley, as bridesmaids, Frank May was best man and Ron Glosson and Don Milinac were ushers. Donna Milinac was the flower girl and Randy Glosson was ring bearer. Breakfast following the ceremony for the wedding party was held at the Wing N Fin. In the evening a reception was held for about 250 people. The couple is now residing in Cooney heights. Farewell Luncheon Edna Hountras prepared and served a beautiful and delicious luncheon last Friday afternoon for her neighbor, Ruth Hauptmann., who is leaving our subdivision this week. Those attending were Delia Julian, Grace Mandziara, Ivy Lezak Ruth Bates and Ann Herzog. Ruth will be missed very much by these gals but they all wish her much happiness in her new residence wherever it may be. The Hauptmanns are now residing in Lilymoor but at the end of the month they will make their home further south. Visitors Lyda and Bill Radisch enjoy having company but Alice and Fred Bell of Norridge, 111. really ran into difficulties because whenever they come out to visit, they find Bill, but have to go and get Lyda; one time at the carnival, another at the ice cream social and this time at the Methodist church rummage sale - at the barn. But, luckily Bill always knows where she is, and the rummage sale was nearly over, so Lyda was excused and allowed to go home and visit with their friends. They had just arrived home and were having coffee with Alice and Fred when Anne and Leslie Block of Chicago drove up and what fun, as all three couples belong to the same Legion and Auxiliary unit post in Chicago. The Flannigans guest over the past weekend was Jim Flanagan from Cicero. The weekend was spent swimming, picnicking and just plain loafing around. Visiting Jack and Petey Oakford and family had a delicious dinner Sunday in Chicago at her aunt and uncle's, Mr. and Mrs. George Buckley. The Kroening family took a trip to the Brookfield Zoo last Sunday and wore themselves out walking around. Among the many sights they saw was the porpoise show. On the way home, the car broke down so they stopped in Arlington Heights at friends and ate their picnic supper in their garden while Bob worked on the car. Del Gerstad spent last weetc with Grandma and Grandpa Birkinbine in Sun Prairie. Wis. while Susie Gerstad had Donna Humann visiting her for a few days. Linda and Shirley Meurer spent last week at their Aunt Jo's in Wheaton, and this week Alan Meurer is spending up in Birchwood, Wis. with his Grandma and Grandpa Meurer where they have gone on vacation. He expects to spend a lot of time fishing with his grandpa. Camping Trip The Kraskiewicz familv and the Lezak family spent 3 days camping in Devils Lake, Wis., last week. They pitched their tents and had a grand time touring the park and hiking and also attending a circus which was in Baraboo. Wis. at the time. Oh, yes, "Keto", the Lezaks family pet also enjoyed this camping trip. Visitors From Florida Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hammond, former residents of Lakeland Park were visiting here last week. They spent four days visiting with the Herzogs and the Hountras and Edna and Ann >were busy as beavers taking turns preparing the meals Style Show Toots Gerstad, Petey Oakford and Peggy Kasper attended a style show and luncheon at the VFW last Wednesday, UNDER QUARANTINE Approximately one-h a 1 f of I r o q u o i s c o u n t y h a s o c e n Placed under quarantine due to lap™e™ beetle infestation. ^. Bradley. director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture, has announced. All of the county lying east of IIlinois Route 49 is affected by the quarantine order issued under provisions of the Illinois Insect Pest and Plant Disease Act. Violators will be prosecuted and fined under provisions of the act. The order, which will be in force through Oct. 15, provides that r.o nursery stock, plants, cut flowers, grains, vegetables, composts, manure, soil, sand, sod, farm machinery or other farming equipment can be moved from the quarantined area without a special permit from the Illinois Department of Agriculture. Wagner, teacher at McHenry Junior high. Along with other scienge teachers from Kentucky, Missouri, Illinois, L a n d m a r k , E d g e b r o o k , J r . High, Bus No. 12, return Bus No. 1. The purpose of the institute is to assist teachers in providing subject matter necessary for effective and stimulating instruction, including recent advances in science. Field tripS laboratory studies, and experiments featuring the "do it" approach received emphasis in order to help the teacher interest his students and channel them into careers of science where the need is great and is becoming greater.. Tours included the Lake, Kentucky Woodlands and Tennessee Wildlife Refuges the Calvert City industrial area and others. On the trips plants, rocks, birds and insects wgife studied. In the laboratory the minute structure of living1 things was observed through the microscope and outdooite, the heavens were watched through the telescope.
