rnrsday, August 23, 1962 McHenry Shores SCHOPP FAMILY RETURNS FROM CALIFORNIA TRIP Patt Petersen - 885-5425 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER (f^ Ken and Bonnie Schopp just returned from a wonderful trip i out California way with their three children, Sandy, Linda and Bob, and neighbor, Bill Lokay, a friends of Bob's. ' Their three main stops were to three different towns where Bonnie's relatives are living. They visited with her mother, niece and nephew at Vista; with her brother at El Monte l^nd also made a stop at La Puente. She said the weather was beautiful, so warm and sunny. They made side trips to Knox Berry Farm, Las Vegas, Disneyland, Lake Mead and Hollywood. They were gone 17 days in all and took scads of movies, some of which were taken of Disneyland and Las f'egas at night when the lights re so pretty. They're hoping that these especially turn out well. The trip out there took them four days but Bonnie said they took their time coming home and made stops at caves and other points of interest. They had so much fun they hated to come home again. But all trips have to end and maybe next ;^ear. Pogorg Tour Canada I hear also that the Pogor family had a very nice time In Detroit, Mich., for 10 days visiting with Mrs. Pogor's brother. A tour of Canada ended their trip, and they all enjoyed the excitement of traveling through a different country. Birthdays For Four What you might call a quadruple birthday occurred last week at the Whitneys. The birthday people were Chuck Whitney, and three of the Whitneys' nieces; Judy Whitney who was 14, Lois Whitney 7, and Diane Dudesek 8. In all there were twenty-seven guests. Audrey had a delicious chicken dinner and of course cake for all. Welcome To The Haleyg We would lijce to welcome the Haley family to the Shores. Dorothy Vilim went to greet the newcomers whose names are George and Patricia. She says they have four lovely children; Kevin, who is 7, Brian, 5, Monica 3, and 10 month Moira. The Haleys are living at 1115 Hilltop and have moved here from Peoria. George is a football and track coach at Wauconda high school and also teaches biology.. We hope they enjoy their new home. Bridal Gowns Highlight of Show St. Mary's luncheon and fashion show was held last week at the VFW here in Mc- Henry. It was a very successful affair from what I hear with quite a large number of area women in attendance. Some of those from the Shores were Alice Brunke, Dorothy Vilim and Daisy Smith. Dorothy and Alice went with a friend from McHenry, Mrs. Marge Lightner. Schmitt Family Back In Shores We were pleased to hear that Elsie and Jack Smith are back living in the subdivision again. They moved in last Sunday and seemed very glad to be back in their home again. Welcome home, folks. Meet The Ewalds Most of us in the subdivision know Bill and Nancy Ewald. Bill is an up and coming young architect who has used his brilliant ideas and innovations In creating their own home. They were both born and raised on the west side of Chicago and attended the same grammer and high school. They were college.-students when they decided to be married; then came the service and Bill spent a tour of duty as sergeant in Uncle Sam's Infantry. Then it was back to college and a degree; not, however, before the Ewalds introduced a third member to their family. This addition was named Dawri. They now have k second child, Srsan Elise. They both have been interested in church youth work and teaching Sunday School, and were very active along these lines. Visit To Haunted House It was a dark moonlit night, the girls had just hiked 7 miles and were now standing in front of the haunted house. Should they go inside Were they going to have to pitch their camp right next to this big empty monster with the moonlight shining eerily on its shattered windows? This was one of the thrills at camp this summer that Becky Partain will be talking a« bout when she goes back to school. She has spent the past few weeks at Camp Far Horizons, a Girl Scout Camp, near the Mississippi. According to Becky's letters home she had a ball. There was no room for homesickness. She'll be remembering for a long while the games, singing, hiking, sleeping under the stars, ana being with all the other girls. Mrs. Partain said the amount of preparation for camp was staggering but now it seemed all worth the effort. Company's Coming Mrs. Partain's mother and dad are visiting with them this summer. They are Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Watkins from Dallas, Texas. Mrs. Partain said they will really be sorry to see them go, since they live so far away, it isn't often they get a chance to visit. The Watkinses have truly enjoyed their stay,4 although there's a big difference in our weather and theirs. They'll be with the Partains about another month before they'll be taking their train trip back to Dallas. We hope they enjov their stay. The Junior Ramages( Charles, Jane, and their three children) have been visiting the Senior R's. Mr. and Mrs. Zeimet had company from Schiller Park last week, Mr. and Mrs. Bacza and their five children. Two weeks ago Mr. Corcoran's sister, Mrs. May Mangan, was here from New York. - She enjoyed a very nice stay with the Corcorans as they showed her around the town. She is interested in antiques and they visited all the shops in the area. They took her to the races where she was lucky enough to win some money. The weather was so nice they had some cookouts and all In all showed Mrs. Mangan a real nice time. . Mr. and Mrs. Hines had their son and his wife visiting them last Wednesday from Blue Lake, Minocqua, Wis. They were here for the funeral ot the daughter-in-law's father. The burial took place in Wooddale and the Junior Hines (Harold, Evelyn and daughter, Pat) came back here after the funeral. Marge Olszewski had her mother, Mrs. Dougal, visiting her for a week. While she was here Marge's neighbor, Mrs. Denigan, had Marge, Mrs. Dougal, Mrs. Tanner and Mrs. Schultz over for lunch. A pleasant stay indeed for Mrs. Dougal. The Wetzel children have been visiting with their grandmot her, Mrs. Wetzel, in Chicago. It seems the salad to be served at the SSAC steak cookout will be home-grown, direct from the members' gardens! The Vilims had company last week; Ed's sister, Sister Mary Inella, and her friend, Sister Mary Delrae, both from a convent in Maywood. Ed and Dorothy's parents were all at the gathering too, they are Mr. and Mrs. Robert Vilim of Park Ridge and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jacek of the Shores. They had a very nice picnic supper down at the beach and then came back to the house for dessert. After supper they played croquet in the yard and had fun trying to see who was most proficient at this sport. Birthday Club Meets Mrs. Hines entertained her birthday club last week. She said usually they meet for a luncheon and to play cards but whenever they come out here they are so taken with the lovely countryside and all the pretty flowers in our gardens that they just like to spend the afternoon in her yard looking at her flowers and exchanging garden notes. Her guests included Mrs* Matt Jones, Mrs. Norman Olson, Mrs. Ernest Sagrelius, Mrs. Gary Patrick, and Mrs. JOe Baenke all of Chicago; Mrs. Joe Delpf of Des Plaines, and Mrs. Albert Holm of Burton Bridge. The group also brought along two of their grandchildren; Gail Smith and Gary Wallers. for your own benefit. Just be sure and sign them.
