August 23, 1962 THE McHENBY PLAINDEALEB \ •vti Village ol Sunnysida CAROL MECKO BECOMES NOVICE IN RELIGIOUS RITE Betty Lehman 885-6366 A beautiful religious ceremony which will not easily be forgotten was witnessed by Irma Gunther and Vickie Bogal when they went to St. Raymond's Cathedral in Joliet for the reception of novices. Carol Mecko of Pistakee Terrace is now a novice and her name from now on will be Sister Maria Del Rey. Lunch was served to the families and friends and r ~ a pleasant • visit was enjoyed. It ^ was a perfect day all the way around. Brownie Leader Troop 150 is in need of a Brownie leader. If no one comes forward to help, this troop will have to be discontinued. Anyone interested please .call Alice Bieschke, 385-6166. ! Johnsbrug P. T. A. A reminder that school supplies will be sold at school the first and second day of school. Mothers help the P.T.A. by buying them here. Vacation The Pflugs spent part of their vacation redecorating the house and the other treating their children to a real good time by taking them picnicking at Druce Lake, visiting the zoo, swimming and fishing. Birthday Parties Suzie Boeger celebrated her fifth birthday with ten little girls and boys. Games were played and prizes were given to the winners. Cake and ice cream were served. The day was complete when Suzie received a new doll she had been wanting. On Sunday Tammy Kinder celebrated her birthday with an outdoor cook-out. Those attending were Grandparents Lang, aunts and uncles and friends. Swimming Award Kathleen Pflug is very proud % of the Red Cross certificate she received for advanced beginners, after three weeks of swimming lessons in Crystal Lake. Visitors and Visiting The Gunthers entertained -Bill's brother. Barney, his wife, Marie, on Sunday and later surprised with a visit from brother-in-law, Stanley $ Wicj, his wife and daughter, Kathy. Kay and Rich Fredricks and children attended a family reunion in Spring Grove on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. A. Kunkel had the Mayor of Bellwood and his family, Mr. and Mrs. R. Zuelke and daughter over for the weekend. .«l Chet and Ruby Crowley en- * joyed the company of their two grandchildren, Bobby Locke of Clarendon Hills and James Locke of Norfolk, Va. They are especially proud of James who will enter the Naval Academy in Annapolis soon. The boys especially enjoyed boating and fishing with their Uncle Joe Benoche of the Terrace. Connie Freeman from Gall,. lena, had a wonderful visit with the Martin family. She was shown a good time and enjoyed a busy week. They visited Starved Rock, Lake Geneva, picnicking and swimming. Also going along was Mrs. N. Justen and daughters. The Kennebecks had Mr. and Mrs. R. Williams and daughters from Lake Geneva over for dinner on Sunday. Despite the gloomy weather Sunday, Pete Heitz and family hand an outdoor picnic with friends and relatives. A good time was had by all, even without the sun. Bud G a r r i t y (a f o r m e r neighbor) and family enjoyed a barbecue with the Fritz family. Cub Scout News Jr On Aug. 25 Pack No. 452 will meet at the barn in Pistakee Highlands for their outing to Wrigley Field. Please don't forget your sack lunch and 40 cents. Be at the barn by 10 o'clock. Meet The Crowleys Today we visited Chet and Ruby Crowley. When Sunnyside first incorporated Chet ' and Ruby were the first to be married by our newly elected police magistrate. Chet cornea from Chicago. Ruby was born in Kentucky and has an 84 year young father still living there. Chet commutes to Niles, he is a machinist by trade. He has a married daughter and three grandchildren. Ruby has two children and , a t six grandchildren. ' Birthday Wishes To Cass Kasperski on Aug. 24 and grandma Mackinson on the twenty-fifth. , 24. May you all have many more. PISTAKEE TERRACE NEWS Association Meeting The September meeting will be held at Ron Wiggerman's, 4403 N. Hickoryway drive. In the future, meetings will alternate between the Vyduna and Wiggerman homes. Woman's Auxiliary The August meeting held at the home of Arlene Connerty was preceded by an ice breaker to aid in the introduction of three new neighbors present. First order of business was the rummage sale. Decision was reached to hold the sale Sept. 15. A committee consisting of Grace Gavin, Louis Jankowski and Dorothy Parker will contact everyone concerning donations. The place of the sale will be in the rear of the Carl Sallazoof building. Committees were formed tc start work on two projects for the children. Hallowe'en and Christmas parties. Chairmanship of the cards was accepted by Bernie Cisewski who will have them on display in her home. Much discussion concerning a November dance was climaxed with no immediate decisions. A social hour followed with bakery donated by Pat Kaiser and Harriet Phillips. Farewell And best of luck to Helen and Harry Suggett who moved to their home on Pleasant Lake at Elkhart, Wis. Welcome Moving to 1501 W. Terrace avenue after six years at 515 Rand drive, Pistakee Highlands are Dolores and Noel Gregg, Laura, 8, and Carter, 5. Noel, a salesman for a rubber firm, is a member of the Johnsburg school survey committee while Dolores is very active at Mt. Hope Methodist church. Dog Joins Canine Corps Jean and Paul Fedorchak attended the graduation in Supt. O. W. Wilson's office of their German shepard, Zep, into the Chicago Police Department Canine Corps on Aug. 15. Zep was so devoted to Jean that earlier this year he bit a boy who playfully shot a cap pistol at her. Following this incident they donated him to the police department. After undergoing a rigorous fourteen week training period, he became the thirty- eighth dog to join the canine service. Here and There Completing a two week Red- Cross swimming course at Antioch are Jeff and Jay Connerty, Mickey and Debbie Jourdan, Regina and Karen Kern, Denise and Bobby Pradelskl, April and Donna Pritehard, Sonja Treptau and Scott and Mark Wiggerman. The Wiggermans attended a picnic at the Norge Ski club Sunday where they received two first prizes, Scott for the twist contest and Mark in the races. Friends and relatives gathered Wednesday evening to conclude the celebration. Honoring Keith Mierzwa's fifth birthday, David Brink, Jay and Jeff Connerty, Bobby Pradelski, Billy and Casey Stahlman and Judy Wecker gathered Aug. 11 for his party. I attended a dedication, entertained a club and our daughter has a new baby. Here are the facts -- Rev. Nicholas Freund, SDS, arrived for the weekend after spending the summer studying at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. He and two other Salvatorian priests, Father Emst and Father Hugh, drove back to California leaving here on Tuesday. We had a family reunion picnic at St. Peter's park on Sunday afternoon. About sixty relatives gathered for a cook-out and an afternoon of croquet, badminton, baseball, volley ball and visiting. The small fry enjoyed the swings. The dedication of a new post office at Cary was Saturday afternoon and I was one of the guests who attended the dinner following the ceremony. My birthday was Saturday and since I wasn't home, we had to have cake and ice cream Sunday morning. Our new granddaughter, 6 lbs., 7 oz. was bom in Bangor, Maine, to Lt. and Mrs. Charles Korus on Aug. 15. She has been named Virginia Mary and has a little sister, Sherri Lynne, to welcome her home. Page Tweniy-On Sladeks had their baby girl christened last Sunday. Heidi is her name and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Grossman were sponsors for the baby. The Sladeks entertained guests at a lawn party in honor of the occasion. Vacationers Mr. and Mrs. Leander Lay and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kattner toured northern Wisconsin last week stopping off to visit friends along the way. Also vacationing in Wisconsin were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Lent and Mr. and Mrs. Allen Pierce. The John Sanders family and Mrs. j Annie Sanders drove to Mon- ! tana where they visited rela- ! tives. This week the Walter I Brown family are in Iowa with home folks. More Babies Mr. and Mrs. Glen Gathman have a boy named Glen Daniel. He has three sisters, Lora Lee, Patti Lee and Sherri Lee. Just heard that Mr. and Mrs. Roy Borre have a new son and is already two weeks old. He has been named Peter. The Fred | Clubs I Members of the Christian I Mothers Society of St. Pej ter's held their meeting in^Jhe i parish hall on Thursday evej ning. It was announced that t here would be a bake sale on Sunday morning, Sept. 2, in : the hall and plans were made ' for a luncheon and card party | the latter part of September. I Cards were played and a lunch 1 was served. Mrs. Alice Stevens | entertained her birthday club | on Tuesday afternoon. Prizes j for winners in five hundred went to Minnie Pierce, Virginia Gillespie, Frankie Shotliff, Alice Wagner. Following cards a delicious lunch was served. A luncheon and an afternoon spent near Genoa, Wis., was the way Mrs. Charles Freund : entertained her club on Wednesday. Those who won prizes were Mrs. Catherine Kagan, Mrs. Arthur Klein, Mrs. George May and Mrs. Emma Kattner. A gift was presented to Mrs. Freund for her birthday. Lucille Jordan was here taking care of the store and their family while the Lents were on vacation. The building needs you. Lily Lake Ladies League The social meeting night took place on Aug. 15 with Anne Bolda as hostess of the evening. The ladies played their regular &ames and Jean Dember won first prize, Ray Smith won second, Helen Para took the third prize and Viola Arbogast won the booby prize. A new member entered the club at this meeting. She is Florence Erickesen of Meadowdale. The next meeting will be the regular meeting night on Sept. 5.
