The team must bolster its offense and make its defense ieven more rugged because coming to Woodstock this Sunday is powerful Notice Dame of Niles. The happy Hurricanes came out of the bruising game without injury. Bill Riley was bruised and Chuck Thillman and Dick Trownsell, bulwarks in the defensive line absorbed some pounding but the entire squad will be fit and ready for the 2 p.m. battle Sunday at George Harding field. Booming punts by Tim Murphy, including one 65-yard kick, kept Schurz away from Marian territory most of the game. He punted eight times and averaged 41 yards, as follows: 32 yards, 47 yards, 65 yards, 31 yards, 33 yards, 46 yards, 39 yards and 40 yards. A stiff wind shortened the distance during the second and fourth quarters when the sophomore fullback had to kick into the breeze. Ed Crowley gained 73 yards in 19 carries, but Marian's offense seemed to stall except in the first quarter when the team moved 35 yards to tally on Riley's eight-yard run be4 If the Giants could take 1,u; w,u' tween end and tackle. it, all of Johnsburg and half | near close to everythmg. - A Pass.ng success- was the of McHenry County would i <»uote from .llJe f,rst pagf of * i I*,orest in several ,sea*onstorm the eates to see Charlie : book vve Plcked UP and Just i Hurricanes completed only mZX tn theV^dSe^ould not put down. It was too bad that rainy weather stopped many Warrior fans from going to tffif game and cheering for their team. Even though McHenry lost, the team looked good during parts of the game and moved the ball well. However, Zion was an alert team and took advantage of four intercepted passes. In the first quarter, Zion scored on a forty yard pass play and ran for their extra point. Soon, after, McHenry started its most impressive drive of the game. Demonstrating a fine ground game, they moved the ball 55 yards with Fred Schmitt finally carrying the ball over; from the 4 yard line for McHenry's only score. During the second half, all of the scoring was done by a stronger Zion team. Both of Zion's second half scores were started by intercepted passes. One came when Zion's fullback intercepted one and ran forty yards for a touchdown. The other intercepted pass stopped a McHenry drive and gave Zion the momentum to start one of their own which resulted in their final touchdown. Zion scored all of their extra points. Tomorrow night, Sept. 28, Liberty ville will be at McHenry. Let's hope the weather will be good so that we can all go and cheer for our team.
