It comes to us once a year. It comes bringing a star, a manger and a promise. We celebrate it, with laughter, gaily, nurriedness, anticipation and reverence. How often, in our rush of Christmas shopping, decorating and party planning, we forget .the reason for the Christmas Reason. I am sure, however, $tiat none of us will pass the holiday by without taking a minute to remember it's true and very beautiful meaning. May you each enjoy a very pleasant Christmas. Any more in the subdivision? Accident on Ice If you own a small boy you undoubtedly know that having fun is uppermost in his mind and that it takes a good deal to. drag him away from his £L i) 1 ay. Last week Tommy Stark "was having the time of his life IHskating on the ice. He took a nasty fall but was determined to continue playing. When he returned home, however, it was discovered that he had a sli:;ii1 concussion and was taken to the hospital. We are happy to report that he is much better now. dinner dances which included fine orchestras, beautiful decorations and a lot of fun. McHenry hospital gave a dinner dance as a Christmas present to all their employees. It was held at a country club and there was an orchestra and entertainment. The Musielaks attended this party and had quit^ a good time. On Friday night, Marie and Art Cicchini danced to some very good music at a Christmas dance given by Art's company in Skokie. The following night at a country club the Ramages attended the McHenry County Shriner's club Christmas party. Tlrs also was a dinner dance with a very nice buffet dinner and fine orchestra from Waiikegan. There were about 156 people attending and each lady received a lovely corsage of carnations and a gift. Yesterday they attended a gala affair put on by the Fox Lake Lion's Club. This dinner dance was also given for the ladies. The Brunkes and the Winters both were present at the Lecture Club's dinner on Saturday. It was an enjoyable event given at the Country club also. Helen Smith were among these enjoying the meeting. Pageant to be Given St. Paul's Episcopal church will be presenting a traditional Christmas pageant on Sunday, Dec. 23, at 9 a.m. services. Two of our children from the Shores will be taking part in this meaningful pro-am. They are, Dcreen Egger, who will sing in the choir, and Randy Egger who is to be one of the shepherds. Christmas Gatherings at Home Most g e t - t o g e t h e r s w o n ' t be for another week yet but I have heard of a few fireside gatherings and pre-Christmas visits. Leah Hogan had a lovely party in her home last Saturday night. Her guests were Mildred Snively, the Rodes, Burgstallcrs, Jack Schaeffer and Nonnan Mediros. Many more of our' homes are looking quite inviting as they are getting all dressed up for Christmas. The Egger family entertained friends at another pre- Christmas party. Their guests were Mr. and Mrs. James Montgomery of Skokie and their two daughters, Linda and Nancy. Darlene and Gordon Hatron spent last Saturday with some Chicago friends, Mr. and Mrs. L. Molinari, who helped them start out the Christmas season with a party. Patt and Bob Petersen visited some newly married friends, Sandy and Gordon Iverson, in their new home in Rolling Meadows. The bride turned out to bo an excellent cook. Mildred Snively made the trip to Western Springs to visit her friends, the Frank Muellers. Christmas is a season when parents go all-out to make ;hiir children happy. But, unfortunately, it's also bare this week just chalk it up as part of the Christmas rush. Please if you are driving to other cities for your Christmas celebrations drive carefully. May you all have the pleasantest Christmas possible. But there is Christmas shopping to do, last minute errands to run, perhaps a holiday party in the neighborhood. 'lhe facts are that of the 11,- 500 people who die in fires every year 20 per ceni are children, 5 or under. The high rate of fatalities among children is due in large part to the fact many have been alone in a house when jt caught fire and didn't know what to do. This Christmas, more than four million elementary school pupils are spreading an important reminder to parents: don't leave children home alone, not even for "just a few minutes." The pupils are junior fire marshals who are taking part in a national campaign for a safe Christmas holiday. _Tha junior fire marshal program is a year-round activity sponsored as a public scrvice in 15,- U00 elementary schools by a l e a d i n g i n s u r a n c e compa n y. The program is sponsored locally by Virgil R. Pollock, with the cooperation of school officials and local fire department. Material for the pupils' holiday safety campaign is being carried in the Christmas issue of the Junior Fire Marshal magazine.
