Thw*<Uy, Etec«mb«2?, 1962 THE MeRENBY PLAINDEALEH Sunnysida Estates Hew Kennebeck Baby Baptized • . Joan Walczynski 885*3105 0' The newest arrival at the Kenncbeck home had his big day Sunday, Dec. 9 when he was christened. Father Weidman officiated at the ceremony in St. John's church on Sunday afternoon. The baby w&s baptized Scott Anthony . and his godparents were Bernard Kennebeck and Marilyn Gamprel. Following the ceremony, there was a dinner at (^the Kennebeck home and more guests arrived later, as well. In the evening Carol served a buffet supper to their guests. Many of their relatives attended. including: Bernard and Joanne Kennebeck and their seven children from Sunnyside; Bob and Marilyn Gamperl and their three children, from West Chester; Don and Madeline Gamperl and their |two children from Chicago; Grandma and Grandpa Gamperl and Richard Kamperl, all from Chicago: Grandma Kennebeck and Alvina Schumacher; both from Johnsburg; Bernice and Earl Fry and their two children from our locale; Carol's aunt and uncle, Jo and Ro Chessare, and their two children and Barbara and Bill Mayer, all from Chicago. Looks ^jtike Carol and Bud had quite a houseful, besides their own ' children, Alan and Karen and baby Scott. Many blessings for your happy day, Scott! stocking filled with candy and a tee shirt. This was followed by refreshments. Then as a birthday treat, Cathy got to choose where she wanted to eat dinner. After that, they returned home for dessert of birthday cake. Sounds like a real fun day. Day In The City The Walczynski family, too, attended a Christmas party for the children, which was held at Lane Tech auditorium. We also saw a fine stage show, enjoyed singing carols to the organ music and then each child received his gift and a treats We then decided to take advantage of being in Chicago by visiting some of my relatives, so we dropped in on three different ones for a holiday visit. We arrived home tired but happy. Birthday Party Little Pamela DeFrancisco turned five years old on Friday, Dec. 14, but Mother had the party, more, conveniently for everyone, on Saturday, the ^fifteenth. Her young guests included, Monica and Maureen Davis, Gail McDonald; Karen Kennebeck; LuAnn, Linda and LaDonna Muleski. Kathy Davis was unable to attend. The girls played many games arid received prizes. They then sat down to eat a lovely lunch of hot dogs, potato chips, milk, cake and ice cream. Naturally, there was candy for every- £one as well. The young ladies all had a fine time. More Parties Cathy Wegner celebrated her birthday (Dec. 20) a little early. Mother and Dad had her cake at home for her, but the entire Wegner family attended the Christmas party sponsored by Keith's employed. They were entertained with £)a stage show of three different acts and then each child received three toys, a BUTCH'S AUTO SERVICE 1002 N. Front St. 385-0811 Cub Scouts Johnny Lakowske has transferred from Den 4 to Den 1, whose den mothers are Chris William and Betty Lehman. They also meet on Tuesday evening .and this week's meeting was spent (after some game playing outside in the unusual fine weather) making and decorating a styrofoam tree with suckers. The boys then practiced carolling for their trip to carol at the hospital, where Johnny will play his accordion. Bet it will sound just lovely. Girl Scouts Troop 295 held its last meeting making arrangements for their carolling party, their Christmas party and their trip to the orphanage. Troop 88 The girls of troop 88 held their Christmas party this week, too. They combined a good nunber of important things into one big affairs beginning at 4:30 and lasting until 8 p.m. First: the girls went carolling around the Johnsburg area for an hour. Then they returned to the meeting place where they said their grace and had a pot-luck dinner. Mrs. Kern baked a large snowman cake which they used for a centerpiece and then! quite by surprise, Mi's. Ka ratens brought a lovely centerpiece she had made, plus a number of other little extras which truly added to the festive occasion. Next, eleven of the girls (as a means of working toward their next rank) put on a skit cal'ed "Tale of a Christmas Carol." This was followed by -the investiture of seven girls and the Fly-up of fourteen other, as well as four girls receiving one badge which they had HAPPY '63 TIMELY WISHES TO EVERYONE May you have the happiest time in the year ahead! DR. HENRY FREUND 1224 N. Green St. 385-0452 * t ilMikl m ffc n *55 life? •w • - ; v , lit earned at day camp this past summer. Mary Jane Lakowske was one of the girls who received a badge. Just as they finished these ceremonies, In walked Santa Claus, whom they had invited, by letter, to attend. He had a few words for the girls and then passed out the gifts to everyone. Being the busy soul that he is, Santa had to leave right after that, so the girls played a few games and then closed the evening with a goodnight circle. Sick List Guess what the Radtke family ha9 at their 'house this Christmas? Four cases of the mumps! Oh, boy! Now that Lauri is just about over it. Terri, Robin, Jeff and Linda though. They could have gotten 'em one at a time. I know one at a time. I know one family that will have a nice "at home" Christmas this year. Scouts Carolling As I told you last week our scouts would be out carolling. What I didn't tell you, so as not to spoil the surprise, was that they planned on making seventeen stops where Santa would deliver a small gift to the retired people in our community. The girls from Troop 295 and the boys from Troop 144 did a truly fine job, with not one rehearsal to put them in tune. The adults who accompanied them had fun just being out with them. We were well received at every home and this morning I've already received a phone call asking me to piease put something in the paper about how pleased they were by being so remembered. The weather was just cold enough to carry the voices nicely and when all the stops had been made, we all returned to our house where Stan had hot chocolate^ready and waiting for us. I'm really proud to belong to our Scput organization. More Tonight One of Judy's classmates. Diane Jenkins from Pistakee Highlands has invited all twenty-two of the girls in her c'ass at St. John's to meet at her house for a carolling party. So, there'll be some lucky folks in that area to hear the girls sing out with their lovely voices. News From The South The Kimbros have been wonderful about writing. The very first week gone, they wrote a nice letter to Mr. and "Mi's. Sabby telling them of the sort of trip they had on they way down. This past week the Jerry Olsens received a post card, as did wo. telling us bits of news about their new home. They "sound happy and content, so we naturally, are happy for them. They send their very best regards to all their friends and neighbors. Chop Chop Chop That's what Alice Biecske did! She cut Tammy's hair for the very first time in her little three and a half year long life. Being a mother (sentimental fools that we mothers are) she had to cry a little over it. Everyone thinks Tammy looks real darling. Home For Christmas I understand -that • Wally Berg is home from service. He was due to be discharged last year, but due to the critical situation in the country, his tour of duty was extended another year. Lots of luck to you, Wally, in all your ventures in civilian life. McHENRY CAB Cabs Not Operating New Year's Day Bullies Say Home Fve been told that on one occasion when the Pabners were not at home some of the bigger boys were bullying the smaller ones on the skating pond. Now hear this! The Palmers have given much time and trouble to see to it that there is an ice skating pond each year, where all the residents and their guests are welcome. However, if it can't be shared decently, or if we have to have a guard staked out there at all times, there just won't be a pond for you kids to enjoy. This is the one and only instance I know of this year. Let's make it last! Happy Occasion* It wasn't until I was checking birthdays during the week that I learned I had overlooked a young lady on Dec. 27. Jean Marie Matthews (The Mathews family resides in the Grist house on Grandview Drive) celebrated her fourth birthday yesterday. Today our celebrant is Mary Mann. On Dec. 30 P. J. Schneider chalks up another year and on Dec. 31 Jean Gehrke and John Barrar share the day. On Jan. 2, the first birthday of the new year belongs to Matthew O'Brien who will be four years old. Happy birthday to all of you. Anniversary greetings go this Week to: Jean and Harvey Garber on Dec. 27. when they will celebrate their fourth year as husband and wife; to Alice and Edward Scheibe on Dec. 29; and on Jan. 1, Shirley and Melvin Simmons'celebrate their seventh wedding anniversary. Signing Off Well, the column went quic* as a wink this week. Funny, isn't it? You'd think that the more news there is the harder to write, but it works the other way around. This morning I received the surprise of my life, when I went to pick up the mail. There was a package addressed to me from the Plaindealer. When I opened it, there was a Christmas present, almost too prettily wrapped to open. But being the curious soul that I am. I did open it and found to my pleasure a lovely bottle of the finest perfume. Being the sort of reporter I am, I feel that I should be giving them a gilt for putting up with me all year. But I am grateful for their thought fulness. And now may I take a moment to wish each and -everyone of you the finest of new years, filled with good health and happiness. Happy New Year! oratloia that brighten the homes. As always, Bill Exline's tree can be seen for miles. We don't need street lights during the holidays, the decorations light the streets. I'd like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy and most prosperous new year. . den mother received a mosaic tile hot plate kit The boys' current project has been working on their parents' Christmas presents. Refreshments for the evening were served, by the mothers of Den No. 1. Holly Hop Committee Orchids to all the guys and gals who worked so hard to make the Holly Hep such an enjoyable affair. A dance like that doesn't just happen, it takes several months of planning, meetings and hard work. This year's dance had as its chairman Vi Abbink and her able helpers Jean Baird, Don Gabriel. Bob McWilliams, Jimmie Justes, Midge and Don Teuber, and Rich Wyczesany. Othere who were not on the committee but helped out were Victor Justes, Ray Baird, Delores and Mayo Proefrock. A 'special vote of thanks for Harold Schmitt, who not only organized the whole dance but really pitched in and helped. I'm sure all who attended (he dance had a most enjoyable evening, but perhaps the happiest couple there was the Shroeders. Credit Due Mary Mahon and Vi Abbink, program chairmen for the Woman's club, would like to give credit to Phyl Harper and Liz Krueger who helped dress all the dancers at the last meeting and to Gloria Smith, Bob McWilliams and Earline Mettelka for taking the dancers home. Cuh Scout Christinas Party On Dec. 14 the Council home was the scene of the Cub Scout Christmas party. Their Christmas tree, donated by Roy Lundelius, \\ is trimmed with ornaments made by the boys.
