We kn6w with all the recent activities it is so easy to forget. The real Christmas Spirit still reigns in the hearts of many in the Highlands, and your reporter Kay, is happy to be the receiver of a lot of it. Only those of us without children or family to share the holidays with knows the loneliness of this season. This year was different for Kay and Wally due to so many wonderful ftilks who took time to call and wish them Merry Christmas. Joe and Liesl Hanisch, neighbors, invited them over lo share the very special day with their family. Haze and Dick Morley came over in the evening to ktep them company for a few hours. We" are happy tO have such wonderful neighbors and friends and we will always remember the Highlands with love and warmth. To add tp all of this Kay's mother, sinter, Mary Ann and family and -her Uncle Bill from .Michigan called and made their 4ay completely full of joy. K«W> of Tour Friends and Neighbors George and Marilyn Van- •Zevern were very happy to "haVe Marilyn's parents from Chicago spend a few days with them over the holidays and t h e y e n j o y e d s e e i n g t h e i r grandchildren with their gifts. Dorothy Orlowski enjoyed a t«n day vacation over Christmag and New Years. She returned to work Jan. 2. Stanley and Myrtle Darmody and Liesl Hanisch enjoyed a four day holiday from their jobs in Spring Grove over the Christmas holidays. Walter's uncle, George Meinke of Ingleside was on his way to Chicago to attend the wake ot Mrs. Hildman when he suffered a heart attack on Route 12 and 120 in Volo and crashed Into a pole. He was taken to the McHenry hospital where he is still confined withi7 injuries. Jack and Mary Seldon have named their baby. Kimborly Ann, and from all reports Kimberly is' a little doll and we arc looking forward to meeting her. \ Dorothy and Richie Orlowski entertained Dorothy's sister, Ruth, and husband. Jack Rathnow of Ingleside, and her sister, Gola MacDonald of Chicago, for Christmas dinner. To complete the day Iil Orlowski's sister, Nettie Gale, her niece and nephew, Del ore* and Jim Flynn, and family from Trevor, Wis., spent a few hours with all the Orlowski family. Today is a sad day for your reporter, Kay. It® is the last week Haze will be with the column. I shall miss her part of the news now I will never have anything new to read in the column. I usually finished mine first and gave It to her and that way her share of the news wafe really news to me. I really enjoyed looking forward to reading the column. So if all her news contacts will please call with your items, it will be greatly appreciated and moat helpful. & Gloria Reinhardt spent Christmas in bed with a bad case of flu. We are happy to report that she is on the mend and waiting to go back to work again. Grandma and grandpa Snell took care of her daughter. Joe and F'tfedfi OTichpnlt spent Christmas a n <1 New Years with their son and family in Minnesota. We hop* they did not fcet snowed in because they drove and we would like to see them back safe and sound. Jane Malek, a very talented gal, entertained the first grade class at St. John's for their Christmas party. She played carols on the flute much to the enjoyment of the kiddies- Her daughter, Jamie, is In first grade and all her play' mates think her mom is tops. You deserve a mother of the year award for your efforts. The committee of Cob Scout Pack 452 will hold an executive meeting Jan. 2 in one of the members home. t The next pack meeting will be held Jan. 9. We will have, move details next week. Georgie Hanisch's Christmas vacation was spoiled by another case of tonsfflftis. His mother is beginning to think he will never get into the hospita} for that much needed operation. Mr. arid Mrs. House are from Chicago and they enjoyed the day in the Highlands with their daughter and grandchild dren. Audrey Morin's father, Mr. Andersen of Chicago, spent a few days with the Morins during the holidays. Don Morin's folks paid the Morins a visit Dec. 29 and 30 to see the tree and gifts Santa left for their grandchildren. Rev. Stewart Smith spent his Christmas with his wife, Florence, and three lovely daughters. Pastor Smith is sttfT recuperating from his recent bout with pneumonia and at this time he was still confined to the house and was not allowed to be out. We are hoping he will be well enough to conduct New Years services for his parish. Forty-five couples spent New Years Eve at the Community center where they enjoyed dancing (did delicious food. Lois Mason became a proud aunt on Christmas day when her sister, Shirley, gave birth to a baby girl weighing 4 lbs., 6 ozs. The Kosik family have been the victims of vandalism during the holidays. Someone has been stealing bulbs from their outdoor decorations. As fast as they are replaced they are stolen again. Too bad at this holy time of the year there is suMi disrespect. Several times the* plastic storsm windows in the community eenlqr have had to be Replaced because someone is puncturing them. This is proving to be very expensive to the association to say nothing of the "wasted time Leo Orlowski and Milton Crosdale spend in replacing them. If the vandals are caught they Will be punished. ^ -- Once again th£ phone calls are coming in about dogs running loose. It gets mighty monotonous typing the same old complaints. We can only say Instead of calling us, PLEASE give Edward Jelinek a call at 385-0541, he will be out to pick them up. He . has done a very good job and everyone who has called him in the past has been more than pleased with his promptness. If people are so inconsiderate as to allow their dogs to run then you need not feel any qualms about reporting them. In closing this week Haze and Kay wish to thank the Plaindealer for the very beautiful gift we received. The package was so beautifully wrapped in gold with gold roses and was most welcome. We wish every membar of the staff a very happy NEW YEAR. LIQUIDITY See Page 3 RUDY BECKER'S KENNELS 1 Mile r:ast of ttie wtvllne . Phone 385-2436 STUD SERVICE. . .
