Thursday, March 28. 1983 THE McHENRT PLAINDEALER Page TMrtewi McHenry Shores GARDEN CLUB SPONSORS TRIP TO FLOWER SHOW Patt Petersen 885-5425 Spring was ushered in on one of last week's dreariest days, for several McHenry Shores ladies. The McHenry Garden club sponsored a bus trip to the flower show at McCormack Place last Tuesday. The trip down was made to the accompaniment of hailstones, rain, and wind, but once they arrived the ladies forgot all outside activities and focused their attentions on the beautiful displays. I'm sure there were groans of "If we only lived in the South" after seeing the l u s c i o u s a z a l e a , m a g n o l i a , Spanish mose, and rhododendrens. It is quite agonizing to see mountains of yellow daffodils, and pink tulips, purple and white hyacinths and tiny crocuses and then picture your own barren garden. The bus trip home was quite different, everyone had been touched by spring. Some were quietly planning this summer's garden, while others were talking excitedly over their purchases. Even your reporter who vowed that her house was already too full of plants, came home with just one more smail vine, an irrisistable purchase. The following McHenry Shorites were among the Garden Clubbers and their guests; Irene Mueller, Leone Wagner, Virginia Verstege, Helen Smith. Mildred Snively, Stevie Korczyk, Gladys Korner, Helen Jacek and myself. The previous day two more SfiOrites made the trip into the city to see the pre-spring showing, Dorothy Vilim and Alice Brunke spent the day touring the flower show. It would seem as if half the women in the subdivision are champing at the bit to begin • in their gardens. "Oh, My Achin' Feet" It looks as though everyones got it in for their feet. Frank Jacek took quite a spill in front of his home last week and ended up with a badly sprained ankle and some pulled ligaments in his leg. While Frank was recuperating, Dawn Ewald did him one better and fractured her ankle bone while playing at school. I also heard that someone did quite a bit of hopping when they dropped a heavy drawer on their foot. What is this--BE UNKIND TO YOUR FEET WEEK? Junior Society xhose grade cards are oat ^ again and I've received word of A students. Shirley Vilim and Brad Nye made the A honor roll. Are there any more? Barbara Vilim and the rest of her Scout troop (190) had an outing last Saturday. The girls spent the day ice skating at the polar dome and had quite a good time of it, so I hear. SSAC Bowling Party Last Saturday found the SSAC members and their wives at the bowling lanes trying their skill. Everyone had a good time and the winners were Don Musielak and Marie Cicchini who were presented with a bottle of champagne. Attending this affair were; the Muellers, Hattans, Dostels, Olbinskis, Schmitts, M u s i e 1 a k s, Lexows, Burkes, Olszewskis, Cicchinis, Hickses, and Walter , Wilson. Around The Shores The Ziemet family had out of town guests last weekend, Matt's sister and brother-inlaw, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Maloney of South Venice, Fla., were here to soak up some Illinois sunshine. Mrs. McClanahan was in the subdivision visiting with her two daughters last Monday through Thursday. Jackie Mc- Dermott and Joyce Calvert are the daughters and she took turns staying with each. Mrs. McClanahan is recuperating from a recent operation. The Calverts made a trip into the city to visit with Don's sister and husband, Mr. and .Mrs. Jim Jack, and stayed fcr a family dinner. ; The Petersens had houseguests last week; Bob's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence . Petersen, came and divided their Stay between their twin daughters and the Petersen household. As a final gesture on St. Patrick's Day, Alice Brunke got carried away with the spirit of things and dyed her pet poodle a gorgeous shade of green. Their waiting for him to turn lavendar at Easter time. Address your mail accordingly and it will never be necessary to change your address when the post office makes changes in delivery routes. Those served by a rural route should have their name and address plainly inscribed on the left side of box, facing street, or when boxes are grouped on the front of the box. It is desirable that boxes be grouped as much as possible to enable the carrier to maintain his schedule and provide the earliest possible delivery. has a birthday on the third, as does Jerry Mack on the fourth.
