Pag® Till THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Thursday. April 4, 1963 Wonder Lake' V'*r-'V HREMBt HURT IN FJU1 FROM TRUCK JMMY Canvas Loocens, Hits Jack Rice Biding On Back Mary Lou Hartog - Even though Jack Rice was stiff and sore and had two small cuts on his face, he Ktill agrees he was very lucky last Friday when he" was the victim of a freak accident while traveling to a fire in Wonder View. Jack is one of our local volunteer firemen and he was riding on the back of the fire? truck when they were answering a call regarding a grass fire in Wonder View. The t ruck hit a bump in the road and the jar caused the canvas to come loose and blow back, hitting Jack and knocking him from the truck onto the highway. Fortunately there was no car following close behind the truck. Leo Hartog was driving in that direction and saw him fall from the truck and picked him up and took him to the doctor. When one thinks of all the serious consequences which could have developed from such a fall, it is easy to see why Jack thinks he was very lucky to have only some sore muscles and a few cuts but -- even those aren't very pleasant.
