Girls at the Gamma House, 121U west Springfield, Urbana, celebrated last week when Kathy Curran, a McHenry sophomore, was named McHenry county Dairy Princess. Helping Kathy celebrate her selection to head dairy promotion activities in Illinois' biggest dairy producing county is foer sister, Dorothy, a freshman at the University who lives at. Gamma House. Kathy Curran, 19-year-old honor student at the University of Illinois, is McHenry county's Dairy Princess. Kathy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Curran, McHenry, will complete the year as the ambassador of good will for the state's greatest dairy producing county. She succeeds Marjorie Zarnstorff who gave up her Dairy Princess crown for a wedding ring last month. Kathy will reign until June, or until her successor is chosen. Familiar with the importance of steady dairy promotion, Kathy loves to cook, mainly desserts, enjoys working around the dairy farm with animals, and is a prominent 4-H member. She is in her tenth year as a 4-H member, most of them in agricultural 4-H, where she showed Holstein cows. This year she plans to take gardening, flowers, and cooking because she won't be home for the summer until early June. At the University she is majoring in Latin and minoring in history. A sophomore, she earned her way to Champaign- Urbana with a scholarship-- she was second in the McHenry high school class of 1961. On the campus she lives in a University cooperative for women and was chosen the ideal independent woman of Gamma House last year. She is the house vice-president this year. Her father farms 80 acres and milks 17 cows. She has a married sister, Rosina O'Donnell, Woodstock; a sister, Dorothy, who is a freshman at Illinois and lives at Gamma House with her; a sister, Carol, and a brother, Jim, at home. Kathy has snapping brown eyes, a pleasant smile, and a keen interest in everything and everyone about her. Hobbies include singing, piano playing and sewing--she makes most of her own clothes.
