When the boys ! sighted a fire burning in a dead tree stump near the woods they " quickly ran to the Brogan home nearby, to put in a call to the 'fire station, "and then returned ;to the fire, to form a bucket 'brigade from the slough. They "returnejl home a little wetter and a little "blacker than whten 'they hdd left but also with a little pride in their Step, knowing that except for their quick action the w6ods could have been no more than a memory. ,It is hoped that whoever started it has learned the hazards of "ptayiittf with fife and that everyone will be more aware of what their children are doing now that they are out of doors and out from UHder our close supervision. *1 Help Wanted There are many opportunities to be of service. This announcement was made by Chester Gould, 1963 campaign chairman, who urges that residents of the county check their files and see that their donations have been forwarded. The contemplated goal is $15,000, a figure necessary to meet the expenses at the center. To date, an estimated onehalf of the amount has been received. The Easter Seal society sponsored by the McHenry county branch of the Illinois Association for the Crippled Children and Adults, Inc., is different from many other organizations in that it has to maintain a building to operate FROM THE PEN OF PEARSON The members of the legislature have many ideas on a new Revenue Article for the state. The vast majority believe that we caji not live and prosper under the pftstent tax structure. Since a new Revenue Article is a Constitutional Amendment, it must receive a two-thirds popular vote of the people in the next general election. It will be necessary to write an article that is acceptable to the voters of Cook county and its therapy program. This building on Washington street in Woodstock is being paid for by funds from tyarious events held during the year expressly for the building fund, an obligation that must be met. Many civic and fraternal organizations, as well as individuals, have and continue to contribute to the building ftmd which is sparate and apart from campaign funds. downstate. -In the past several attempts have been made but the voters have turned it down. One method may be a $5,000 jpmjption on personal property tax or to abolish personal property tax. These methods would satisfy the suburban and c.ownstate voter but would have little reason or effect in Chicago. If we remove sales tax on food this would or should have an effect on the Cook County vote. As an individual I will advocate a new Revenne Article that will do three things: remove sales tax from basket-food (.unprepared), a $5,000 exemption on {Personal property tax, (this will eliminate the average Easter Revival Services FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH 8929 W.
