A dinner in his honor was enjoyed, when a gift certificate for an aluminum fishing boat was presented to Mr. Grabe. On Friday, employees honored him with a party at the plant and presented him with a fishing pole and reel. Mr. Grabe has been employed at the local firm for about five years. He and his wife are moving to Mountain Home, Ark. NAMED MANAGER Samuel J. Roti has been appointed manager of Metropolitan Life Insurance company's Waukegarv district office, 23 North Cotinty street. The office serves Ingleside, Island Lake, McHenry, Mundelein, Libertyville, Lake Villa, Round Lake, Zion, and other important centers as well as Waukegan. JOINS C. P. A. Edward J. Bock, 4904 W. Bonner drive, is among sixtyeight new members recently elected to the Illinois Society of Certified Public Accountants by the board of directors. These new members will join the 3,800 CPAs of the society at the sixtieth annual meeting June 9-11 in the Drake hotel. Bock attended Northwestern university and is'affiliated with S. K. Webster, CPA. REPRESENTS COMPANY William Pictor of McHenry on May 1 became representative of the New York Life Insurance company in this area. Mr. Pictor is a former local high school teacher. REDUCE RATES James W. Karber, chairman of the Illinois Commerce commission, announced Thursday, May 2, that Northern Illinois Gas company would make reductions in its rates amounting to more than $1,000,000 annually. Karber said that the rate cuts resulted from discussions by the commission r>nd its staff with company officials. SET SALES RECORDS Public Service company set new sales records again ip 1962, Harold W. Otto, Northern division vice-president, said in a report of the division's activities for the year. Northern division's 1962 electricity sales reached an all-time peak of 3,- 198,034,000 kilowatt-hours, an increase of 13.6 per cent over 1961. VAL PETERSON NEW PRESIDENT OF MCHS BAND Val Peterson was announced as new president of the M.C. H.S. band at the annual band banquet held Tuesday evening of this week in the school cafeteria, attended by about 150 persons. Other officers include Fred Cooper, vice-president; Connie Freund, secretary; and Trudy Freund, treasurer. Jane Macdonald was announced as new student director. Janice Bush, president of the band this year, was the capable mistress of ceremonies, and other officers who took an active part in the program were Roger Thompson and Rick Burns. The presentations of letters and silver and gold pins were made by Supt. Buckner, Assistant Supt. Schoenholtz and Principal Martin. The banquet was the concluding social event of the' year for the band, which is completing its first year under the capable leadership of John Leighty. Among guests present were Paul Yanda, retired band director, and Mrs. Yanda, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Welty, Al. Affeld and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Macdonald. Fish products comprise 96 per cent of Iceland's exports. PURCHASE BUSINESS Raymond J. Steege and Harry F. Steege, Jr., took over operation of McHenry Recreation, 1216 N. River road, McHenry, on May 1, having purchased the business from Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kuna. The Kunas have operated the popular bowling alleys for the past eight years. Grand opening will be held June 1 and 2, to which the public is invited. ON DEAN'S LIST Miss Virginia Peterson of McHenry has been placed on the deli's list at Illinois Wesleyan university, it has just been announced by Everette L. Walker, vice-president and dean of the university. This recognition is given to those students whose grades include nothing below "B" and at least one grade of "A".
