Fourth Annual Smorgasbord Plans are now under way for the fourth annual smorgasborn, which will be held on June 15 (the day before Father's Day), at our community house, between the hours of 5 and 7 p.m. Members of Veretta's committee will be contacting club members as well as other residents of our fine community for donations. Dancing Recital Susan Gerstad and Veronica Bierman performed in a dance program last Saturday, appearing in a ballet sequence given by Nancy Gardiner. Boy Scout Camp-O-Htee Kiswaukee District Boy Scout Camporee is but a group of happy memories. When we saw the rain on Friday we were disheartened but it did cjear up and when cur troop ot thirty-two boys and three leaders left in an eight car and a truck caravan things were looking much better. Camp went up rather smoothly after the boys hiked in with their personal gear for over a mile, this was one of the requisites for the camporee. Friday evening's sleep was really something from what we've been told. Know the Scoutmaster didn't get much sleep that night. Saturday saw the boys in patrol competition on compass mapping, measuring, trailing and things of that nature. Our five patrols did a fine job by earning a total of nine blue ribbons, thirteen red ones and three yellow ones. That evening at the campo- ree bon-fire the leaders got a tremendous thrill when they saw how many of the parents and people from Lakeland Park came to the affair. The huge camp fire was lit by Mike Linane, Danny Kamp and Dennis Druml who were dressed in their Indian regalia and emerged from three places in the woods with flaming torches. Our dance team then danced for their allotted 12 minutes. Our troop had the honor ol flag raising for the entire camp on Sunday morning. Serwices, both Catholic and Protestant were held on the grounds and our Senior Patrol Leader, Ray Bottari, had the honor of being one of two mass servers for the Catholic services. At noon twenty-seven families arrived with picnic lunches. Out side of a few cakes brought out by three mothers on Saturday the camping had been done on prepackaged trail foods. During the picnic, happy birthday was sung to Walt Mrotz and everyone ate birthday cake that his parents had brought out. Walt will be a long time in forgetting his thirteenth as he had to go through the boys paddle machine and also one by the Leaders. All our scouts, leaders and parents then went to the final session of the weekend, the awarding of ribbons. Mr. Drumi accepted our troops red ribbon, we earned 259 points out of a possible 300 so we can all feel proud of Troop 459. Ayhen every one arrived back at our camp it was dismantled and packed and then came what no other troop does, the boys wait for their wrestling match against the leaders and committee men. Needless to say who comes out on top. We saw many of the men on Monday and we know. Part way home Mr. Mrotz's truck broke down and had to be towed home. Ella and Jim Manning, Marge and Jack Haug Larry, Bob, Diana and Mike Haug, Bernice Lussow, Vera and Bill Jones, Joan Morris, Nedra's mother, Mrs. Georgia Chamblin, Les's mother and of course Bill, Les and Nedra. Belated Birthday Wishes Even though we're late doesn't mean we can't wish you fine people the very best, it's only cause we just found out that Bill Bockman, Sr., added another year on May 24 as did Virg Grote. Virge celebrated hers by attending the salad luncheon at Zion church with a few of her friends, Betty Bockman, Delores Belohlovy, Bev Worm, Marie Lindquist, Loretta Jarman and Lucille Jones Also Dorothea Zimney on the eighteenth and Steve Hoard on the twentieth. Happy Birthday Greetings Several of our community's homes will be serving extra calories in the form of birthday cakes this coming week, May 31 it'll be at the home of Judy Ludwig and also Gail Parisi. June 1, Little George Lauer will blow out one candle and on the same day Bobby Rode will have to blow hard to get out his thirteen. June 2, Cynthia Kujak will have ten candles to blow at and on the sixth Mary Ann Krupinski has fifteen. On June third Judy Johnson celebrates her fourth. has been home sick several days, little Eddie Linane, Jessie Matthews, Sue Funk and to all of you hurry and get well. Hope Danny Kamp's sprained hand is better real soon. Getwell wishes to the Grizely children. Linda is just getting over the three day measles and they are expecting the rest to be coming down with them soon. Anniversaries The month of brides starts off with Agnes and Joe celebrating their seventeenth year of togetherness on the very first day of June. Their next door neighbors, Grace and Chuck Campo delebrate 15 years on the fifth. Daughters Club May sound like a strange name for a group of women but as this club had its beginning over 30 years ago by a group of girls who were too old for one church club and too young for another they decided to form their own after they were all Confirmed. They meet once a month and have for all these past years, husbands and children also attend now. Nedra Eckhart was hostess for the group this past Sunday. They defeated the Braves by 15 to 4. Even though it was a chilly evening, those unsung backers of Little Leaguers were in evidence, what happens to fathers during the season, you can always rely on mothers. On Saturday, June 1, all our Little Leaguers will be out in uniform to ask your help in purchasing equipment, won't you help them by taking one of the decals and displaying it in your car or home window? The cost is small for each purchase but if enough are sold they can add up to be able to purchase all the things necessary for your boy and neighbor to be able to play ball. Betty Kamp's den and Aggie Prazak's den tied for the honor flag. It was decided to turn the flag back to Bob Mathews and start fresh in the fall. There will be no pack meetings through the summer but on August 25 there will be a round up picnic at the west beach with everyone bringing his own lunch and pop being supplied by the pack; It was also brought up that there are den mothers needed to start in the fall. Bobcat pin - John Flannigan, Bear badge went to Billy Barwig, Mike Koch and Del Gersted. Mike Koch also earned a silver and a gold arrow. David George received a silver arrow and Greg Bartos earned two silver arrows. One year pins were given to Den mother Betty Kamp and Den chief Danny Kamp. Recognition went to Ronald Fernstrom for his Bobcat and to Robbie Wohnrade on his wolf. Both of these boys have earned these awards but not soon enough to get their pins. There was to have been a skit by den No. 5, but with den mother Aggie Prazal: unable to have had a pack meeting the Saturday before, game of musical chairs was played, first with the cubs and then their brothers and sisters. Refreshmants were then served by Den No. 3 Betty Kamp's den. Strolling Through The Park Petey and Jack Oakford had guests last Sunday. They were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pierce and their son, Edward. Walt Mrotz surely will remember the spring Boy Scout Camp-o-ree. Sunday part way home there was trouble with his truck that was hauling the scout equipment and it had to be hauled back, that wasn't enough but he had jabbed a thorn into his finger while wrestling the boys and later Sunday night it began to swellv by Monday morning he couldn t move his hand and had to go to the doctor for three shots. His fingers are all in splints and very badly infected. Hope by now he's okay, next camporee should be better. Our congratulations to Carol and Morrie Ketchum on the arrival of their new son last Wednesday, May 22. Also to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jett lor their brand new daughter. Barb sure is a bug for exercise -not only does she take long walks but now she's riding a bike over here. Bet she wishes I didn't live on top of a hill. No fooling' Barb, I'm green with envy, iVish I could join you. The Oakford family has been busy, Petey's mother, Mrs. Eileen Grondy is spending the holiday weekend with them and on the twenty-sixth they attended another twenty-ninth birthday party for Petey's sister, Mrs. Eileen Paulsen. Hope that cute little guy Johnny Meurer's hand is okay after his recent dog bite. Every one who saw the Indian tepee at the scout weekend has been raving about it and we'd like to add we both thought it was terrific also. The tepee is all hand made and took more hours than anyone except the Frank Ficek family can realize. It was all made and painted by Evey, Frank, Frankie, Coleen and LueJla Ficek. The troop can well be proud of this tepee. Dave Druml's first leave is over and he has returned to Camp Pendelton, where he will be getting ready for over-seas duty this summer. It was wonderful having Dave home, the time just went too fast. He grew 2V2 inches and gained almost 30 pounds so you can see he picked a good branch of service and enjoys it even tho' Dave says there's no place like home. Saturday before he left we enjoyed a wonderful picnic and on Sunday had a wonderful day with Dave's girl, Penny, and her folks, Sally and George Stelljes. We're all going to miss you Dave.
