Wednesday, July 3, 1983 THE McHENRY PLAMDEALKfl Eastwood Manor REMODEL BARN FOR RECREATION CENTER FOR MANOR Laverne Saynor 385-5429 The meeting for the E.M.P.- O.A. took place on Friday, June 21, at the bams. Work that has been finished to make the barn satisfactory for a recreation center is: a vvall has been xemoved, the barn has been painted, the floor has been tiled and windows have been repaired. There still has to be new lightirtg installed, and the furnace has to be repaired. E.M.P.O.A. extends its appreciation to Gil Moore, Fred Woodbury, Dick Wiegman, Harry Durkin and Elmer Bor- -toven for all the work that they have done to make the barn what it is. Thanks also to some of the younger set who have pitched in and helped. They are: Rickie and Dennis Moore, Mike and Tom McCormack, John and Mike Schmidt, John Woodbury, Craig Sigman and Ernie Kuck. Eleanor Kuck and Dottle Messer brought down refreshments for the fellows. Couches have been donated by various people. Anyone who has any small tables or chairs, they would be greatly appreciated. The barn can *be used by the Cub Scouts, Brownies, Girl Scouts, for demonstrations or for any other organizations or doing with ths consent of E.M.P.O.A. There will be a club set up by the teenagers. There will be a meeting soon. There will be chaperones at these meetings and also adult advisers. Rev. Mclntyre will be there also. Under new business, it has been decided to have a family picnic and barn warming in early September. It was also mentioned about the dumping of garbage in the subdivision. The McHenry „ County supervisor will be contacted regarding a sign prohibiting dumping. Lads of pre-teen age have many interests and pleasures. Though not a deadly weapcn, "a B.B. gun can cause great damage and bodily injury if not properly used as intended. These guns are basically tor target practice which does not include birds or windows. Improper usage of these weapons con prove to be very costly to the parents of the boys who own them. Shooting of birds of which we have so few in our subdivision due to lack of trees here is also senseless. So parents, please see that your son if he owns such a weapon is properly instructed in these matters. Faith Presbyterian Church On Sunday, July 7, the guest minister will be James D. Eby who recently graduated from McCormick Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Chicago, and who will be working on a graduate degree at Northwestern university this fall. Little League Don Roths is manager of the Sox, a -miniature team. Boys from Eastwood Manor who are on this team are John Dal ton, Steve Roths, Tommy Salo, Larry Tucker, Jack Ritter. The boys have won two games and lost two. Their next game is against the Cubs on June 29th at 1 p.m. Any news about our little leaguers would be greatly appreciated. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wonsik, in Fox River Grove. On Sunday the Ryans had dinner at the Wonsiks to help them celebrate their wedding anniversary. On Sunday we journeyed into Lombard to visit Fritz's mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Lappeneit. The A1 Urbans went Into Chicago on Saturday. They brought Al's mother baok with them for a visit. On Saturday Walt and Eleanor Kuck and children went into Chicago to the Bob Schwinns for a graduation party for Terry Schwinn. Sunday the Kucks spent a very pleasant day boating with the Tom Schweiss and the Parkers in Fox Lake. They had a picnic and the kids enjoyed water skiing. The George Landins went out to dinner on Sunday to a restaurant in Gurnee with George's parents, the William Landins, for belated celebrations. The Robert Mitchells have just returned from a week's vacation trip to the Ozark Mountains to visit Bob's mother, Edith Long, and his grandfather also. On Thursday Cindy was 5 years old and she had a few friends in to help her celebrate. Her guests were Kevin and Mary Coughlin, Bob Iverson, David Kellogg, Greg Haideman, and, of course, her brother, Danny. On Saturday the Mitchells went into Chicago with Kay*s brother and wife, Dick and Mary Ann Hill, to a restaurant with singing waiters to celebrate the Mitchells' anniversary. Anne Meyer's , and children made a trip to Bloomlhgton for the weekend to visit Anne's sister, Janice Porter, and family. Anne left the children there and she and Mrs. Porter went on to Elsah, 111., to the Prmcipia College for the graduation exercises of their sister, Nancy Weckler. They enjoyed the trip very much. The children especially liked watching the boats on the Mississippi river. On Monday, the Anthony Noonans took the children to see Santa Claus, Yes, that's right, at a local eating establishment. They were having a Christmas in June celebration. The kids saw Santa on water skis and got a chance to talk to him also. The Mel Stephensons had as a guest for four days Kay's aunt, Mrs. Barr, from Corvallis, Oregon. On Saturday, Tom Simpson's district from the company he works for had a golf outing at the McHenry Country club. The couples then met at the Simpsons for cocktails and then back to the country club for the evening. Sunday, the Simpsons attended the Art Fair in McHenry. McHenry Shores WHITE SOX TEAM BEATS CUBS AT SHORES DIAMOND By Bern Ice Wilson 385-4380 The McHenry Shores White Sox beat the Cubs at the baseball diamond June 23, by a score of 20 to 17. This puts the Cubs one game out of tlrst place. The next game will be held on July 21 and will be a bicycle game and everyone is invited to come down and cheei the boys on. The losing team had to buy the beer and it was a good hot day to enjoy it. One of the Chuck Whitneys lost his pants on second base so th<?re is always something interesting to see. Someone called to say one of the young fathers almost fell into the river trying to tie up a boat. The Blackhawk Area Council held an appreciation dinner on Monday, June 24, at Crystal Lake for all committee members, Scout leaders, den mothers, and spouses. Those attending from Pack 162 were A1 Bianchi, Glen and Dottie Messer and Louise and Mel Griffeth, from Eastwood Manor, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard from Pistakee Bay, and Mr. and Mrs. King of Volo. This is the Sunday after the 4th of July holiday so everyone will be needed. News Items Bill and Ing Corcoran left for Birmingham, Mich., on Thursday to attend a wedding of one of Ing's nieces. The big day was June 29 but they will enjoy a few extra days with the family. We have been to Minoqua and Mercer for a couple of days so if you haven't been able to reach me we were taking life easy. I will be back to the daily grind after Sunday when Walter goes back to wcrk. In the meantime I am getting used to cooking again as we huve been eating out so much. The two youngest Calvert Children, Michelle and Brian, have finally got over the mumps and Aunt Jackie either caught them or gave them to the kids no one knows which but all is back to normal now. ,, The Sewing Club met at Phyllis Bonk's house last Tuesday and Alice Brunke, Nancy Ewald, Pat Petersen, Pat's sister- in-law, Mary Petersen, and Louise Winters attended. The next meeting on July 9 will be at Joyce Calvert's home. The Bridge Club girls went out to lunch in Park Ridge Wednesday at a well known restaurant. Irene Mueller, Helen Smith. Mildred Snively and Virgie Verstege all added a few pounds with all the good food.
