The next meeting will be held the first Sunday in August. Culprit ConfeaseaJ Ken Betts has come forward and confessed to being the reason for the collapse of the diving board. Seems as though he gained a few pounds and the board couldn't stand it! We are just jesting. Ken wanted to be sure that none of 0ie young people would be blamed for vandalism. He has agreed to make restitution by re-installing the board so that accidents will not happen again. A steel plate will be anchored to the raft and the board attached to this. Sounds good and sturdy and should take all the weight intended. Good neighbor, Ken! ed for Lil, Mark, Tom and John Ringelstetter recently. The four motored east and visited the battle grounds at Gettysburg and then on to the national capital. Mark's cousin is employed in D.C. and really gavre them the grand tour. Points of interest included a visit to Arlington Cemetery where they viewed the changing of the guard before the tomb of the unknown soldiers, Blair House, the White House, the Smithsonian Institute, and the National Art Gallery. Lillian confessed to being tremendously moved when she and the boys stood before the gigantic statute of Abraham Lincoln. She felt he was ready to speak. All who visit at this shrine have the same feeling, we are told. The four "R's" continued on to Buffalo, N.Y., destination Niagara Falls. Their impression was that the Canadian side of the Falls is more scenic They continued their Journey through Ontario and re-enlered the U.S. at Windson-Detroit. They covered a lot of territory in five days but have stored up memories which they will retain for life! New Realdeats Welcome First Child Mr. and Mik. Richard Johnson, who purchased the Rut h Smith home on West Orchard Drive, welcomed their first child -- a girl -- on Friday, June 28. Cheryl Lynn was born at McHcnry hospital and weighed 7 lbs., 8 oz. Mother Gail entered . the hospital on Thursday and after a fruitless day, returned; home that evening, only to. dash back the next morning! The little lady finally made a grand entrance Friday p.m. • The Johnsons moved into the Smith home on Aug. 26 of last year. Neighbor Greg Burg was telling tales "out of school" about the new 'daddy. When Richard visited tys daughter in the nursery, he ' observed five little guys . there, also. The little lads carried blue, red and gold stars on their cribs. Disappointed because his daughter's bassinet was not adorned he queried the nurse for the reason and tried to promote a star for her. The nurse explained the gold star meant surgery or\ly for boys, blue stars indicated nature'6 method of feeding, and the red star carried a medical reason. His little "dolly" didn't qualify in any way. Needless to say, daddy was pacified! Mother and daughter came home fh>rp ' tlje hOfifltpT on Tuesday, July 2, ami all -is serene. fUranattiH Move South! Apparently our winters became too severe for the John Granath family and they pulled up stakes and moved south. Not very far, though, thankfully. Only to the south side of McCullom Lake! This very fine family including John, mother, Marge, and the kids, Betty Anne, Jack. Mary Lynn and Mike, have been very active in civic affairs in our community and we know they will participate in their new community of Lakeland. A "Yankee Doodle" Salute To Elma Nelson who has been caring for the flag at the beach for lo -- these many years. The flag is always up at the proper time and down before sunset regardless of any "hectivity." We feel she deserves a large salute and here it is! Great Lakes And Canada Lottie and Gene Piotrowski kept a diary of their eight day venture around the Great Lakes and Canada but we shall digest the story for your pleasure. Lottie, Gene, and Delores were accompanied by Lottie's sister and daughter -- Gen and Rosemary Sulkowski. Leaving our shores the five drove to Milwaukee where they boarded the ferry for Ludington, Mich. Next stop was Traverse City where they "did" the Clinch Zoo. Then, it was on to Mackinac Island where they obtained the services of a surrey and proceeded to get lost! They viewed Sugar Loaf Rock, Arch Rock, and Fort Mackinaw. Plenty of their sight-seeing was done via 'shank's mare" with accompanying foot trouble. A thrilling experience was crossing two mamouth bridges in one day -- the Mackinac bridge to Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., and the International Cullom-Kfioll Festival plans occupied most of the meeting time when the Cullom-Knoll convened last Sunday but other matters of business were discussed. Ray Host Anniversary Party Lil and Dave Hansen held "open house" on June 30 in honor of Lil's parents' thirtyninth wedding anniversary. The honored guests were Marie and Tom Christiansen of Chicago. For the occasion, Lil served a buffet dinner of baked ham, roast beef, molded and shrimp salads, all the other trimmings and a lovely bakery cake, properly inscriped. Those who came to pay their respects included Liz and Bud Cable, Annelisa and Fred Matthesius, the Art Brands of Wonder Lake, Ardelle Brand, Lonie Toerne, Elma and Earl Nelson, and the Howie Thomases of Johnsburg. Two Chicago couples present included Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stubener and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pomeraning. Many lovely gifts will be given house room at the Christiansens. Capital And Canada For Vacation Trip A most enjoyable week end- Bridge to Sault Ste. Marie, Canada. They watched the water fecede as a boat came through the Soo Locks. In Soo Junction, Mich., they engaged a boat and saw the Tahquemenon Falls. On the way back, .the excursion boat ran out of gas and they "cruised down the river" until help was forthcoming. The captain of the boat informed them it was the first time in 37 years. They absorbed more scenery in Michigan and then on to Wisconsin and Door County. In Aqualand they fed animals, watched bears drink soda pop, saw a duck play the piano, and watched a rabbit smooching one of his relatives. As they motored back through Milwaukee, they visited the famous "suds" factory and inbibed a bit of brew! All part of the tour. Home again, with memories never to be forgotten. Conservation Report On Lake Gene Piotrowski sent samples of our lake water to Bruce Muench, biologist for the state conservation department. His report in brief comments on the remarkable clarjty of the water since the chemical rehabilitation in 1959. Plant life is thriving. He further states "The presence of breeding size bass, along with evidence of survival of the 1962 bass spawn are indications that the recent winterkill did not ruin the fish population." Hospitalized Alice Gustafson reports that husband, Conrad, entered Augustana hospital on June 28. Shortly after his admittance, she received a phone call about midnight that was ghoulish in nature. She planned to report this call to the police. Long Holiday Featured Parties Many parties and get-togethers were held in various homes during the long holiday. Elma and Earl played hosts to an impromptu gathering at their home. Present were the Paul Toernes. the Pave Hansens and the Levesque tribe. Son Donald gave a farewell party for the Granath youngsters which was attended by a large group of local youngsters. He strung lanterns through the back yard and the kids had a grand time. Our family had a marvelous time with Navy Cross pilot, Paul Ward, and his family last Saturday. They were charmed with the beauty of our lake and the beach. We enjoyed a picnic-type affair and hated to see them leave. Theresa and Willard Schv't? entertained Will's niece en«l fiance and the William Gibiin family last Sunday. ARTS COUNCIL At a meeting last week at the executive mansion to discuss the formation of at state arts council, Gov. Otto Kerner said: "Illinois may not be able to win out in competition with New York and Hollywood as a mass producer of the arts, but we can win out as the place where the cultural frontier is alive and advancing. Illinois and Chicago have a rich tradition of creativity in the arts and literature. We cannot be satisfied, however,, to point to a proud past.
