A note on our desk stated that one of our admirers called and stated, "Too bad about poor ojd American League being whipped again." He didn't give his name, bat said we would know. Hyphens or spaces separating the numerals from the letters must be equal to the width of any letter except I or any numeral except 1; the character, not less than 3 inches high, and of a solid color which contrasts with the background so as to be clearly visible and legible. The Ixirder, trim, outlining or shading of a numeral or letter is disregarded in determining whether it meets the minimum requirements of 3 inches in height. Registration numl>ers must be on the forward half of boats where the numl>ers may be easily observed. They must not be placed on the obscured underside of a flared bow. There has l)een considerable misunderstanding by the boating public concerning display of registration numbers; because of this, the Coast Guard until this year ordinarily did not cite owners for these violations. Starting with this season, the Coast Guard is strictly enforcing the requirements. Any boat owner with an improperly displayed numljer will be cited for violation. Boat owners are advised to check the display of their numbers now, and thus avoid possible citation for violation. Detailed information concerning the display of numbers can be obtained free by writing to the Commander, Ninth Coast Guard District, Main Post Office Bldg., Cleveland 13, Ohio, and requesting the circulars "Attention: Pleasure Boatmen" and "Pleasure Craft." SHAMROCKS BEAt ELGIN 2-1; LOSE - TO RICHMOND 7 8 * By Hill Kamp The Shamrocks seem to have a knack for putting on Hn exciting finish to a game. Jack Adams pitched his best game of the year allowing but two hits while fanning 10. Jafck has great poise to go along with what is probably the best curve ball in our league. His curve breaks down, making it very hai-d for a batter to lift up and hit any distance. Jack is also a fine hitter as his .571 average attests. Paul Hayes pitched a good game for Harvard as he struck out eleven batters. John Hiller moved from second base to catcher for Sunday's game and did a great job. John threw out two men on attempted steals of second and handles Jack's curve real well. He called a smart game, setting up many strikeouts. John's replacement at second was his cousin, Wayne, who handles several chanches without an error. Wayne went three for three in his first game with the team and is currently hitting .667. In the second inning, John Hiller doubled and scored our first run on a line drive single to left by Wayne. Eight McHenry players broke into the hit column led by Phil Schmidt who went two for two. In the fifth Phil drove Jack Adams in with the tie breaking run and scored on a single Little Letagne Notes Justen, rf 0 McHenry OPEN WEEKDAYS 6:45 ^AT., 1 p.m. SUN.. 2:15 p.m mmm Ph< 38-0032 NOW SHOWING Julv 10 - 13 "KING KONG VS. But the 5th inning reversed the situation, with the Giants scoring 7 runs and holding the Braves to 1. For the next 2 innings, the Giants tied up the score by holding the Braves and scoring one run each inning. The 8th and 9th went with neither scoring. But in the 10th each came through with 3 runs. The 11th went quickly with no score. Then Dave Himpelmann hit a home run for the Braves, bringing 1 man in and rallied his teammates to finish the 12th with 5 runs. Twenty hits were scored by the Braves, with Dick Doherty, Dave Himpelmann and Tim Freund pitching for them Their catcher was Ken Prazak who did a fine job. Hats off to Danny Kamp who caught for the first time in Pony League and got his first hits of the season. The Giants finished this game with a total of 19 hits. Little League all star time is upon us once again this year. The team has been chosen and boys are being practiced daily by Ed Condon, ihelr manager, Cal Houser, their coach, and Ed Doyle last year's manager. The boys were each a unanimous choice selected by the major league managers. The first tournament game for McHenry will be played July 18, 6 p.m. at Crystal Lake Little League Field. Other teams in the area tournament are Woodstock, Island Lake and Crystal Lake. Crystal Lake will be Mc- Henry's opponent the 18th. The winning team of this tournament will move up to the district meet which will be held at Barrington. Reports from our manager and coaches are favorable in that the boys are shaping into a well balanced team. Fourteen boys are chosen according to tournament rules and they are as follows: John Anderson, Robert Welter, Gary Fairchild, Dennis Bruhn, Mark Domoto, John and Don Rein- Zeller, Ken Ried. Gene Hester, Mark Wegener, Mike O'Brein, and Tim Foran. There are only a few more days of Little League lett. Why not come out and support your son by seeing him in action.
