SWINE VIOLATIONS Continuing their crackdown on violators of the Illinois Livestock and' Swine Regulations, the Illinois Department of Agriculture announced that 12 men have recently been convicted. William Williams, chiet ^investigator for the department, reported that 75 to 100 out-of-state trucks were checked for health certificates recently and that numerous Inspections were made of licensed dealers' premises. A numl>cr of investigations are still in process. Though we put forth our l>est, Hales Corners won 2 Barnes out of 3 to push our McHenry All Stars out of tournament play. The first game was played Saturday, July 20th with many McHenry Boosters attending in | Males Corners. Wisconsin. We lost this game 10 to 9 against some terrific fielding on the part of Hales Corners. Hales Corners carhe out with 9 hits and 8 errors. McHenry finished up with 12 hits and 4 errors. Barzak and Boblocki each hit home runs for Hales Corners. Dave Smith got a home run in the 7th inning, driving in 2 runs, and brought McHenry back into a tie or winning position, but his teammates just weren't able to come up with (hat little extra. Winning pitcher was Voight :md the loser was Jim Frost, who took the mound from Bob Schaffer of McHenry in the 4th inning. Sunday, July 21st brought Hales Corners to our McHenry V.F.W. grounds for a picnic and double header. The bleachers were loaded and everyone saw a couple of exciting games. Sunday's 1st game was very close with McHenry emerging victorious 5 to 1 with 5 hits and no errors. Hales Corners had 3 hits and no errors. Winning pitcher was Tim Freund and the loser was Barzcak. McHenry had 2 home run hitters, Dave Himpleman and Dick Doherty, while Hales Corners had none. The second game Sunday saw Hales Corners blast away, winning 9 to 3. Winning pitcher was Maydock, who allowed us 3 hits. McHenry started with Dick Doherty. He was relieved of the mound duties in the third inning by Keith Carstens who gave up to Jim Frost in the 5th. Home run hitters for Hales Corners were Jakubowski, Boblocki and Barzcak. McHenry had only one, Pat Camasta, who put one over the fenfce, bringing in two runs. Throughout the three games, sportsmanship was excellent on both sides. We wish to thank Hales Corners for their hospitality extended during our visit there. Returning to our regular teams, the Braves edged out the Giants 7 to 5 on Tuesday, July 16th. Braves had 7 hits and 2 errors. Giants had 5 hits and 1 error. Winning pitcher was Tim Freund and loosing was Jim Frost who also hit the only home run of the game. For lack of players tlie Cards had to forfeit Thursday's game to the Sox. Monday's game. July 22nd. was another close one with I the Cards skidding away from I the Giants 6 to 5. | Winning pitcher was Dave ! Smith who was relieved in the (ith inning by Paul Adams. Losing pitcher was Bruce Potratz of the Giants, who hit a home run. The only other home run of this gaipe was scored by Pat Camasta of the Cards On Sunday many people commented to the fact that our Flag was not flying. We didn'l forget and felt bad when w^ found we were unable to fly it because someone got ga> with a knife and cut the cord: used to raise it. MAUER AND FREUND HURL 1-0 SHAMROCK1 VICTORY AT DUNDEE , Ron Mauer and Gene Freund led the Shamrocks to a 1-0 win over Dundee last Sunday. Ron pitched 7% innings, allowed 6 walks and only 2 hits. Gene came in then and, with the bases loaded and one out, pitched his way out of the Jam. There were only three hits on either side. McHenry scored the only run in the fourth. With one out, Vem Peterson was safe on the third baseman's error and was sacrificed to second by Russ Cox. Then Herman Hautzinget* blooped a ball into left center that landed between three out-stretched hands. Next Sunday Johnsburg comes to McHenry. If the Shamrocks can win this game, they will have a chance to play in the AABC Ttournament at Genoa. The first two teams in the League will be represented in the tournament. The fish was 11% inches long and weighed 2 pounds, 10 ounces -- two ounces heavier than the previous record bluegill for Illinois. A 4-% pound bluegill caught in Ketona Lake, Ala., in 1950 holds the world's record for this species. Since Illinois has a much shorter growing season than Alabama, it is doubtful that a native bluegill of this size will ever be caught here. Sullivan caught his fish on a spinning rod and was using a live worm for bait. It was taken from a small strip mine northwest of Marion. Our inability to hit-'with men on base sums up the defeat as thirteen runners were stranded in seven innings. Phil Schmidt gave a great all around performance as he hfcld Union's hard hitting team to five singles in the five and one-third innings he pitched and got three hits off Gary Rudinski who pitched a fine game. Jack Himpelman singled in the fourth for the only othe;r McHenry hit. We moved in the first when Jim Meyer walked and came home on a two base error by the Union right fielder. Wonder Lake Game Wayne Hiller went 5 for 5 as the Legion team defeated Wonder Lake last Sunday. Jim Meyer and Joe Fino also had good days as they each bad three hits. Jack Adams went the distance striking out 16 batters, which is certainly a tremendous feat. Sirhon and Eberly collected hits for Wonder Lake. This was the 8th win for the team against three defeats. Side Notes: Wayne Hiller leads the team with a *550 bdtin major, minor, and miniature -- well done. The All Star game at Crystal Lake did not come out as planned although our boys played the game to perfection. Losing one to nothing in the last inning is heartbreaking, here again, they were real sportsmen. Crystal Lake is to be congratulated, having gone on to win the area tournament. Our considerably smaller boat was lifted on the mountainous wake and slammed against the canal side. No real damage was done, but the comments I made about the offending boat's rude skipper weren't the sort of thing one enters in a log. When I arrived at the lock the large cruiser was laying to about 200 feet from the lock entrance. Her skipper was angrily shouting at the lockmaster. The lockmaster signaled us ahead and we proceeded on into the lock. I was surprised when the lock gates closed after we had rigged lines around mooring posts and killed our engine. In the few minutes it had taken to put out fenders and secure our boat, my two sons had ferreted out an explanation of what had occurred. I had seen them looking into a box-like arrangement that looked somewhat like a letter drop. Actually this is a periscope through which the lockmaster can see boats approaching up to four miles away!
