Brown were on hand to see their first granddaughter baptized. They have grandsons and have longed for a granddaughter, now they are happy, as are their son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Brown, Jr. Sunday the senior Browns went to their son's home in DesPlaines to see baby Ijiura Ann baptized. Their daughter and husbandy Mr. and Mrs. Davit^ Zeliijger of Anaheim, Calif., were godparents by proxy. The Junior Mrs. Brown's brother and sister stood up for Laura in their stead since thip Zelingers could not be present. After the baptizm a family dinner was held in DesPlaines, with the Junior Mrs. Brown's parents, the Elmer Bakers of DesPlaines, their son-in-law and daughter, and their three children were on hand for the St. John's Notes Please remember the big carnival and dinner to be held August 2, 3, and 4, There will be plenty of fun for everyone and most certainly the best food on hand for all. It was nice seeing Father Weideman back after his vacation in California. He is looking just grand and is glad to be back. Just in time to help with the carnivaL \ Mount Hope Notes The organ fund raisers are at it again. They have a big event coming up, August 17, the "Chuck Wagon Ramble," food and fun for the whole family. Every one is invited to attend. Reverend Smith has been invited to serve on the faculty of the Methodist family camp, August 18 through August 24, on Lake Ripley at Cambridge, Wis. In addition to teaching, he will present a series of six meditations entitled: "The Will of God" during the morning watch services. Dean of the camp is the Reverend Stanley Beck of Woodstock. Reverend Smith is looking forward to this event very much and is busy making plans for his series. Altar flowers add beauty to your worship hour. If you are interested in donating flowers for this purpose, please contact Marilyn VanZevern, Hyatt ,7-3224, for further details. The first lay speaker, Harold Wiley, has successfully completed the course for lay speakers and has been certified by the Rock River Conference. Congratulations, Harold, on this fine achievement. July 22, a commission on education meeting was held in the church hall at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., the official board meeting was held and many things of interest to the church were discussed. With the full cooperation of the board things are going along smoothly and their work shows it in things being done for the church. It always makes a pastor feci gratified with such grand cooperation. way Is not always easy and it is a challenge for boys and girls as well as adults to live for Christ. The promise of the TiOrd Jesus is, "LO I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS, EVEN UNTO THE END OF THE WORLD" (Matthew 2S: 20) It is important for boys and girls to learn that Christ is always with them, helping them and enabling them to live in the way pleasing to Him. The lesson series "LIVING WITH CHRIST" emphasizes this great truth and helps young people to understand how they ran serve and please the Lord .fcsus. Registration is open to all and may lx? made by either stopping at the church office mrtfct any morning or by phoning Hyatt . There is a regist rat ion fee of .IM)c per person. Classes will begin at 9 a.m. and close at 12 noon. A1 the official board meeting July 22, Dud Gregg was reelected chairman to the official board and Glenda Wieck was re-elected as secretary to the official board. I want to thank Reverend Smith for his press release and for taking the time to type it all up for me and drop it off at the house, and Wally and I enjoyed having coffee with him. Suffers Fatal Heart Attack Monday evening about 6:30 July 22, James M. Aycrs of 5909 North Fox Lake Road suffered a fatal heart attack. The Rescue Squad could not revive him. He was taken to the Pedersen Funeral Home in Chicago. James was 64 years old and he and his wife Anne had built a new home and had only lived here six weeks. It is veiy sad to see some one who had looked forward to retiring and living close to the water 1o enjoy their twilight years pass away. They both had worked very hard fixing everything real nice. Birthdays And Anniversaries Birthday wishes are extended to the following folks who will soon be celebrating theif birthdays. To my hubby Wally Sielisch who adds another milestone to his life on August 15, Judy Krumvveide August 8, to my friend Jeanette Dugan who celebrates August 9, Alice Harris, August 11, Barb Sisk, August 10. To each of you many happy returns of the day from me and all your friends and neighbors. Only one anniversary this week, the lucky couple are George and Doris Hansen who will add another year to their very happy marriage on August 14. Best wishes for a very happy day and may it be as happy as the day you said "I Do." How Youthful Can One Art Your reporter, not to be a stick in the mud, has joined the youth fitness program. News Of Your Friends And Neighbors Tuesday, July 23, heifers from the farm bordering Meadow Lane were loose again thanks to some thoughiless folks, in the Highlands. A herd of children was chasing the heifers through every ones yards. Between the unguilty cows and the thoughtless children many yards were torn up. Some of the boys were kicking the cows and just being mean. It made one ill watching such cruelty to a dumb animal. The farmer who owns the cows is very upset with the Highlands. They have erected two new fences in the past year, the first one a barbed wire was cut in six foot lengths aH down the line. The second fence, an electric one, the batteries were stolen and, all the insulators broken with a 22 rifle. Children have been doing a lot of damage to their farm also. They have tried asking the children nicely to stay out it docs not help. I do not blame theifrrmers in back of us for their^httitudes they are within their rights. Children should l>e taught to respect other people's property. It is very inconvienient to the farmer and his wife who have to drop everything and walk a mile to get the cows back. Sony to hear Catherine Me- Garry is confined in the McHenry hospital. We hope by the time the hews comes out she will be well on the way to a full recovery. Father Dording and Father Weideman of St. John's church were on hand July 28 for the grand opening and dedication of the new fire department building. Father Dording lead the ceremonies. Dick and Rose Farwell are happy to have Dick's mother spending the week of July 28 with them. Don Morin is enjoying a two weeks vacation. They left July 23 for Grand Junction, Mich., where they spent a week. They took the baby to Chicago to stay with Grandparents. the senior Morins. PROFEjjionat DIRECTQRV They took Audrey's sister, Jae-1 kie Piotrowski, and family with j them and they spent a glorious ' week with Audrey's dad Mr. I Anderson on the farm. The j second week of their vacation ; they spent in the Highlands and area. Steve and Ruth Petrow enjoyed a visit with their niece Melody Kassner, Melody spent last week with them and enjoyed all the fun of country living, swimming and meeting new friends. July 17, Bev. Lewandowski. Mary Lou Sabielny, Mary Madock, Barb Sisk and Jane Malek and all their kiddies spent the day in Twin Lakes, Wis. According to all reporls the gals had a wing ding. Get these gals together and it is a riot. Since being tied with kiddies leaves them little time for social functions and not to be outdone, they only had one thermos and bad to keep refilling it and Jane Malek poured. After the day at the lake their adjourned 1o Bev's house where Bev poured coffee, so they really made a day of it. Don and Wanda Dobecki of Grayslake, former residents of the Highlands, spent the evening of July 19, at the home of Reb and Rarb. Sisk where they enjoyed an evening fpgether and Don and Wanda enjoyed seeing the Sisks,' new home in Pistakee Hills. July 21, after an evening of fun, I retired and just was dozing off to sleep when the sounds of sirens brought me to my feet in a hurry I hurriedly dressed and my hubby and I took off to see the spectacular fire on the old Miller farm on Miller road. Half of the Highlands were there, I haven't seen so many cars and people gathered together since we moved out here. While standing there 1 was talking to a woman from Long Lake who said all the kids liked to come there and go through the haunted bouse. So a half hour later, we walked by the house and the door opened and the light from the fire showed two men walking out the door. Not that I believe in haunted houses but I jumped and let a yell out which brought much laughter and a lot of embarrassment to your reporter, since it was way past 2 a.m. I was very happy it wasn't an occupied home burning. The Lowerys are enjoying a much deserved two weeks vacation and they plan to sit back and enjoy every minute of it. July 2o, Haze Morley attended a baby shower for her sister-in-law, Helen, in Round Lake. Many friends and relatives were on hand to welcome the new baby girl and to see her for the first time. Seems like the same old cry is once again being heard. Dogs are again running on the loose and some one has been bringing dogs in to the Highlands and deserting them, to fend for themselves. Herb and Lorraine Lindemann miss their daughter, Marilyn, and their two grandsons. Marilyn's hubby. Van, picked them up July 28 and they will stay in Chicago until their new home is completed. Lorraine says the house is very lonely and empty. She and Herb really enjoyed the family being with them. In closing 1 hanks to all the wonderful folks who were so kind to call the news in. Since my hubby is on vacation, I wasn't in the mood to make a lot of calls, last week. We enjoyed seeing movies, drives, shopping leisurely, swimming at Lake Geneva and Twin Lakes, the Lake County Fair and Rodeo and Saturday night dancing in Wisconsin. I only hope the next week will be as nice, Wally even had time for a lot of work around the yard and house. Until next week, may God take a liking to each and every one of you and please be kind to one another. If next week's column is short I hope you will all understand, I shall try me best to gather a few items, this week I was just plain lucky. SKILLFUL DRIVING A skilled driver shows himself to best advantage under the worst driving conditions. The Institute for Safer Living states that real skill develops from foreseeing adverse traffic situations or road conditions and manuevering to avoid accidents. Yet as I eavesdrop on their little game of pretending -- well, as a mother, I'm just a bit frightened. How readily they pick up our characteristic poses and attitudes ... always exaggerating to an extent ... trying to be more like, us than we are ourselves. Then I remember the day John and I made that thoughtful decision to join the Church and raise our children in a Christian home. What a difference that decision has made in our lives. And what a difference it is making in our children's lives. There's no harm in youngsters imitating adults ... so long as the adults they imitate are worth imitating! Copyright 1963, Keister Advertising Service, Inc., Strasburg, Va. ALL FOR THE CHURCH THE CHURCH FOR ALU The Church is the greatest factor on earth for the building of character and good citizenship. It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the Church. They are: (1) For his own sake. (2) For his children's sake, For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material support. Plan to go to church regularly and read your Bible daily.
