Thursday, August I, 1963 THE McHENBY PLAHTDEALEa Ringwood TWELVE TIRED CANOERS RETURN FROM EXCURSION Lor Brennan - W.L. 2045 Twelve tired, shaggy, bug bitten canoers returned from their trip to Canada about 3 p.m. Thursday, July 25. To even begin to tell about the canoe trip would take pages, but I'll try to fill you in. With Rev. Brenneman's car and the Kanadian Klunker, we rode to Ely, Minn. We arrived at the canoe outfitters about noon on Tuesday, July 16. We stayed at a motel in Ely and left early on Wednesday. The canoeing was new to us at first, but we got used to it soon. The first day was windy and the waves were pretty bad. It was extremely exciting because of the water being thrown in our canoes and the excitement increased when one of the canoes hit another and rode piggy back style until the kids pushed it down again. The excitement died down again as we began our search for our campsite. Our usual day started about 8:30 or 9 a.m. Breakfast at 10- 10:30, lunch at 3 p.m. and supper at 8 p.m. We traveled every day. We broke camp about 12 and with a few stops, pulled in at night about 7 or 8 p.m. Mrs. Brenneman usually prepared the meals which were? on the whole, pretty good. We went to bed when it got dark because the mosquitos and black flies were so bad. Many happy and unusual experiences will long be remembered. Snapshots and movie picture films were taken. These will be shown to anyone interested, after they are developed. Nick Hedge, Gary Grant, Glen Fout and George Blumer went from Spring Grove. Ida Mae Walkington, Ron Gelvin, Donna Low, Jim McFarland, Fran Holsinger and Linda Low from Ringwood. The group is grateful to Rev. and Mrs. Brenneman for going to Canada with us. Even tho we sometimes griped about things, we really thought they were swell and we're all set to go again. There is a picture elsewhere in the Plaindealer of these youngsters with their Kanadian Klunker. Linda Low, Reporter. the good food and place for our meeting on Sunday night. A wienie roast was planned, along with volleyball, croquet and badminton. Guests were a few of the canoers from Spring Grove. A program on "How does God Answer Prayer" was prepared by Cris Fossum and Evelyn Harrison. We were invited by Spring Grove and Ingleside for a picnic on August 4, but due to the fair the M.Y.F., won't be going. Only those individuals who wish to.
