James Kinzie received a gift of a gavel from Paul Kocan, a resident ot Wonder Lake and a past officer of the Commonwealth Edison post In Chicago. Mr. Kinzie served as commander last year and Was re-elected to serve again this year. Visit To The Southland _ Leigh Perry (Miss Wonder Lake of '63) and Sharon Hoffman took off at 7 a.m. Sunday Mary Lot Harteg morning with Pop Perry's station wagon and Pop Hoffman's gas credit card and headed south. The girls were heading for the Smokies and from there will journey to Hattiesburg, Miss., to visit Leigh's grandparents. From there they will go to Slidell, La., to visit Leigh's godmother and then will go on to New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. They plan to be gone about two weeks. Leigh was recently convinced of the goodness of people when she left her wallet on a bus in Chicago and someone found it and put it in the mail and sent it backjto her. Golden Wedding Anniversary Friends of Mr. and Mrs. Ray VonBampus, (former residents of Wonder Lake) will be happy to learn they are celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary. The VonBapuses live at 414 E. Give Ave., in Orlando, Fla. Their anniversary is Aug. 19. Their daughter. Virginia Monteleone, and their son, Dick, and his wife, Hazel, live in Orlando and will celebrate with them. Their other son, Bob, and his wife, Betty, now live in Chilicothe, Mo. I'm sure they would be happy to hear from some of their friends on their special anniversary. Post 1169 News On Sunday, Aug. 4, the big ball game was held. They would rather not talk about the final score but the old men of the post gave the Legion team a good tussle. Some of the usedto- be's who started the game had to take to the bench after a few innings. Not beat out, mind you, but just playing it cagey so they Wouldn't get tired (it says here). But all in all, a very enjoyable afternoon was had. Lots of laughs and lots of aches and groans the next day. Fire And Rescue Squad The men of Station 2 answered two calls last week. One took them to a home on Chapel Hill road and the other was a fire which destroped the old Klapperich barn. The rescue squad also went out on the house call. Saturday evening the rescue squad was summoned to the local bowling alley, where a patron suffered an attack. She was taken to the McHenry hospital for treatment. Monday morning they were called to a home on Pioneer road. Remember to buy your tickets to the rescue squad dance on Aug. 31.
