/ Thursday, August 29, 1963 McCullom Lake JOSEPH CRICKS OBSERVE GOLDEN WEDDING SUNDAY Kvt*\Lieveaqtie A fine example of conjugal bliss, Mattie and Joe Crick will celebrate 50 years of happy, fruitful marriage this Sunday, actual date is Sept. 3. They mark the occasion with festivities for relatives and friends, beginning at 2 p.m. We feel this story is most unusual because the "bride" passed her 63rd birthday on March 15! ' "Groom" Joe turned 70 on July 19. They are fortunate enough to • have four living generations in their immediate family. "" Mattie and Joe were next door neighbors and the year Mrs. Crick turned 11, Joe cast his eye in her direction. JJe pursued her for about IV2 fears, until both sets of parents gave their consent. They were married in Greenville, Ky., and made their first home there. First child, Mrs. Mildred Gibson of Harrisburg, 111., blessed their union. They moved to Indiana for a short bit and Mrs. Nell Abney was THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER other move back to Kentucky resulted in the birth of son, Jay, and Mrs. Wanda Senter. The three youngest chiMren have made their homes locally. The senior Cricks have six grandchildren including Sandy .Senter and Rusty and two great-grandchildren. A course in electricity at Chicago Electric Engineering School caused the family to migrate to that city. Looking for a country place in which to raise their small children, Mattie and Joe discovered McCullom Lake and opened a gas station in 1938. They added a grocery store to their industry and maintained it until 1951 when they sold to Piotrowskis. During this time, they watched the community change from a resort area to a village. Joe is now engaged as an electrical contractor, while Mattie minds her beautiful garden. The two were active members of past community improvement groups and Joe served as treasurer for a time. Then are members of the First Baptist Church of McHenry and will entertain members of the parish for their celebration. These two have been wonderful and productive members of the community in addition to being the finest of neightictfs. We wish them more happiness as they look forward to their diamond anniversary in '88! her attendants were similarly outfitted. They made their home in Crystal Lake where son, Ron, made his appearance. A move to Oak Lawn preceded their making, their home here in 1946, in time for Ron to start kindergarten. During World War II, Bill served with the Army in the European theater. The two have been active participants in all community affairs and civic endeavors. They are members of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. Eleanor was returned to the office of treasurer in this organization. Bill is past commander of the V.F.W., has been active in the Boy Scouts, and is presently serving his third term as trustee of the village. He is finance chairman. This past year saw the birth of their first grandchild, Thomas William, on Nov. 30. We rejoice with Eleanor and Bill on this milestone occasion and wish them even more happiness in the future. Horse Show Story.Postponed jAecause of the magnitude, ana scope of the H.H. Mass Quarterhorse show on Sunday, Aug. 25, we beg your indulgence in waiting for the details. We added to the family roster. AjPi>^s'1,^01 do justice to this outstanding event and need more time for research. Silver Wedding For Village Trustee And Mate With no daughter of their own to perform the loving task of honoring mom and dad on their silver wedding anniversary, Eleanor and Bill Creutz are fortunate enough to have a daughter-in-law who performed this service! Jackie Creutz, Ron's young bride, decorated their lovely home in Lakeland Park and about fifty relatives and friends gathered for the occasion last Saturday night. The communities of Glen Ellyn, Elmhurst, McHenry, Ringwood, Lakeland Park, and our village sent representatives. Eleanor's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Greplink of Glen Ellyn, Bill's sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Blakemore of Elmhurst, and Jackie's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Skidmore of Ringwood, were present. Local guests included Barbara and Larry Larsen, Mayda and Gene Shigley, Ercell and Harry Lock, Maud and Art Stuhlfeier and Pearl and Win Pietsch. The couple received a fabulous assortment of beautiful gifts of the traditional silver. For the occasion, Jackie served dinner buffet style which included ham, assorted salads and trimmings and the centerpiece was formed with a beautiful cake, suitably inscribed and d&corated. Eleanor and Bill met while both worked for 111. Bell Tel. Co. in Glen Ellyn. They courted for about one year and were wed in Eleanor's home on Aug. 20. 1938. She wore the traditional gown and veil and Kiddy Party Saturday Morning The small fry of the community will be delighted to learn that the Cullom-Knoll Association is holding a party for them this Saturday, Aug. 31, starting at 10 a.m. at the beach. The only qualification if you are 12 years old or younger that mama and daddy belong to the Cullom-Knoll Association. There is still time for them to join. Simply contact Mrs. Myra Murray on Maple Hill Drive or Roger Kinsey. There will be games with prizes for the winners. Refreshments in the form of hot dogs and pop will be offered to stave off the hunger pangs. The organization is expecting a good turn-out, so be sure and have your parents sign up! "Here Comes The Bride" As the strains of the revered wdding march peal out in the inner sanctum of St. Patrick's Catholic church, at 11:30 a.m. Miss Nancy Joyce Anderson will march down the aisle to join her waiting bridegroom, Ken Locsch. Nancy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Anderson of Sunnyside Estates, while Ken's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Robert Loesch of Chicago, but he makes his home with his maternal* grandmother, Mrs. Mary Kantorski of W. Parkview. It will be basically a local affair since the bridegroom, best man, Ed Caron, and maid of honor, Sandi Brennun, all reside in the village. Following their wedding trip, the young couple will take up residence at 3007 N. Spring Road. Following the morning nuptials, a breakfast will be held in Mary's home for members of the wedding party and the immediate families. A reception for invited guests will be given at the American Legion Home at 6 p.m. We sincerely wish Nancy and Ken every happiness as they join their destinies. Enterprising Adolescents Our local teen club -- the Griffins -- will be shampooing your auto (if you will give them a chance) for a veiy modest sum, this Saturday morning, Aug. 31, beginning at 8 a.m. They will continue until 9 p.m. They will conduct this service at the Sinclair station, intersection of Route 31 and Elm street. Every member is urged to attend. Bride Feted At Two Showers Most recent of Nancy Anderson's showers was held at the home of Mrs. Mary Kantowki last week. Sandi Brennan, who will serve as maid of honor, was the hostess. She and Sharon Raczon trimmed the basement recreation room in yellow and white and the table was adorned with lovely artificial flower centerpiece. The young women who attended included Arlene Babarsky, Donna Smith, Joanne Reid, Leslie Dering, JoAnn Anderson, attendants Rose Hyke and Jolynn Falsey, and Chrys Levesque. Later in the evening, both mothers, Mrs. Clifford Anderson and Mrs. Bob Loesch, appeared. Other guests were Mrs. Ann Knowles of Chicago and this reporter. The gals played a game spelling as many words as possible from the phrase--Nancy, Ken Married. It was interesting to see the number of combinations conceived. Chrys won the first prize with Mrs. Knowles, second. For the opening of the personal gifts, about to be bridegroom Ken Leosch pulled a hasty departure, but reappeared in time "to pour." Nancy was honored at another shower -- miscellaneous held in Chicago recently. Fifty-two guests were present and at this time, the young couple received most of the gifts necessary to start housekeeping. Plenty of loot!' usual life saving machinations were employed. We are happy these two wee ones and the aunt and mother were checked out in proper procedures and this story ended happily instead of with a tragic outcome. Page Nln§ -- BSaves Child's Life Being at the right place at the right time resulted in the saving of the life of 16 month old Mark Mass, son of Julie and Edward Mass, last Thursday afternoon. Celia Schlofner and our daughter D. D. were visiting with Mrs. Anita McMahon when the child's absence was noted. He was discovered in the grandparents' pool and the Educational Trek For Teens A jaunt which provided them with brain fodder was taken by members of the Griffins last week when they toured the Museum of Scidface and Industry. Those boarding the bus at the beach included president Tim Tomasello, Mario and Corky Peterson, Geni Scarbrough, Nina and Don Tomasello, Nancy Burg, Mary Beth Luto, Linda Schlofner, Kathy Smith, Delores (Curly) Piotrowski, Linda Watson, Mike Reid, Penny Miller, Carol Michel s, Derek Egerstaffer, and Bill Doggett (visiting at the Lee Anderson home). Cecil Ballowe who has been transporting these youngsters since kindergarten days, had the happy task of ' riding herd" on the guys 'n' gals with excellent help from Phyllis Straumann. "Going along for the ride" were Phyll's elder children -- Sandy and Debbie. 'Nuthin' beats exposure to culture at an early age! Some brought lunches and others purchased them at the site. They were all impressed with the telephone exhibit, which covered the progress of this utility since its discovery. They availed themselves of the various phones which revealed the past and present, weather and time reports and other interesting aspects. Another bit of interest was exhibited in the escalators which are quite a novelty to these country bred and raised youngsters! A stop on the way home at one of the better known hamburger "joints" completed an eventful day. 'Twas cocktails and champagne preceding the feast, but we are still trying to find out what a "screwball" is. Some kind of a delicious drink, according to Frieda Olsen. She and husband Einar attended the couple as they exchanged vows. In addition to the two named Olsen couples (no relation), Sally's daughter and husband, Gert and Charley, and this reporter and Jake were present for a delightful evening. My own "bridegroom" deposited me at the door and continued on his way to Glenview for his regular drill weekend.
