Thursday, August 29, 1963 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Page Eleven Ringwood RINGWOOD'S TEAM WINS FIRST PLACE IN SOFTBALL PLAY Lar Brenwua - WX. 2045 Last Wednesday evening the Ringwood softball team ended the season by defeating Pell Lake 4 to 3 and Hebron 3 to 2 iiK a double header, to finish the season in first place. They were presented the trophy by _Joe Darling after the games. ^ After the trophy is engraved it will be on display for a time in a local garage. The team consists of John, Jerry and Harry Hogan, Butch Leonard, Bernie Klapperich, Bob Brennan of Ringwood; Russ Carr, Ed Skidmore, Charlie Sowers and Clarence Adams of McHenry; Dan Carlson and Bill Huff of Richmond; Bob Nolan and Rich Michaels of Johnsburg. These boys started the playoffs Monday. The details of the play off games will be in next week's issue. McCullom Lake AllStars Defeat Lakeland Park All-Stars The McCullom Lake Little League All-Stars (Ringwood also belongs) defeated the Lakeland Park All-Stars last Saturday afternoon by a score of 4 to 2. This will bring to a close, the games of the Little League for another season. These little fellows have done a great job of playing ball this summer and are looking forward to next year. Team members from Ringwood are Larry and Terry Harvey, Bobby Klapperich, Lenny Ackerman and Ray Low are on the Pirates. Bobby Brennan, Guy Winters, Larry Oonk. and Kevin Bauer play for the Yankees. Ringwood boys who helped make up the All Stars were Bobby Klapperich, Bobby Brennan and Larry Harvey. Shadles Have California Visitors Mr. and Mrs. Wolf Shadle are enjoying a visit with their grandchildren, son and daughter- in-law. Mrs. Paul Shadle and her three daughters, Sally, Christine and Paula, from Miraleste, Calif., arrived several days ago, while Paul arrived Sunday bringing Jordon with him. Jordon is John Shadle's son. The Shadles will certainly enjoy entertaining their family before their return to Califor- Yvonne, Catherine and Colleen, Wesley Bruce all of Ringwood. They were also supper guests. Leon, son of the Jerome Tonyans, celebrated his fourth birthday on that day. Belated birthday greetings to you Leon!! " Princess Pat Ends 2 Year Reign Last Saturday, Miss Patricia Hogan ended her twoyear career as the Illinois Dairy Princess. She has been many places and taken part in many activities for the ADA during her two years. She gave her crown to Miss Pat Johnson, a representative of McClean County in Bloomington last Saturday, who will have a lot of work to do in dairy promotion work. , ^ Mrs. John Hogan and Mrs. Olbrich attended the ceremonies at Bloomington on Saturday. ^ ^ Card Club Last Wednesday Mrs. Bud Whiting was the surprised guest at the Card Club's meeting. It was her eightieth birthday, and her friends surprised her with a birthday cake and all the trimmings. Mrs. Bud Whiting was high with Mrs. Gerry Kunz low. The group met at the home of Mrs. Bertha Peet in Richmond. Here 'N' There Mrs. Richard Thon pson and boys of Greenwood called on her mother, Mrs. John Hogan, on Monday morning. Loren Harrison was a supper guest in the Robert Brennan home on Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Wolf Shadle went to G'Hare field on Sunday to meet their niece, Mrs. Ed Cavanagh, and children. They are on their way to California from England. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kunz went to Chicago on Saturday where they helped Mr. and Mrs. John F. Kunz celebrate their forty-ninth wedding anniversary. Mrs. James Wegener and Mrs. Louis Winn of Richmond were visitors in the Phelps Saunders h6me in Sycamore on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Hawley were dinner guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Reinwall of McHenry on Sunday. Mrs. Fred Wiedrich, Sr., celebrated her nintieth birthday last Wednesday. She received many cards and had several callers during the day. Mrs. ' Laura V. Smith of Crystal Lake and Miss Ruth Henne of Chicago were weekend guests in the Roy C. Harrison home. Mrs. James Wegener and son, Freddy, helped Peter Leonard celebrate his second birthday last Saturday in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Leonard, in Lake Geneva, Wis. Bobby Brennan took Kevin Bauer arid Bobby Klapperich to see a movie in Woodstock on Sunday afternoon in honor of Bobby's twelfth birthday. . A Thursday evening caller in the Bob Brennan home was Mrs. Joe Schmitt of McHenry. On Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Wolf Shadle attended the funeral of Dr, E. B. Anerbach in Crystal Lake. Mrs. Jerry Williams of Fort Worth, Texas, has returned to her home after spending *a week with her parents, the John Skidmores. Betty was called here by the death of her grandfather, John Ehlert. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kunz helped their granddaughter celebrate her first birthday last Sunday at a dinner given by Mr. and Mrs. Roger Kunz in their home in Lake-In-The- Hills. Little Robin Therese was one year old on Aug. 27. Johnsburg RESCUE SQUAD SPONSORS ANNUAL DANCE SATURDAY Betty Hettermmaii Dance time is here again! Why not' take advantage of it! The Johnsburg Rescue Squad is holding their eleventh annual dance in the community club hall next Saturday evening, Aug. 31.* A good time is always in store for everyone when they participate in this yearly event. Entertains Sig Jacobsen of Ringwood the constable of District 3 for McHenry County, entertained the McHenry Township officials at his home on August 18 in the afternoon. Guests were supervisors, assessors, foad commissioner, board of auditors, constables and justice of the peace. It has been a custom for many years to have these get-togethers once a yea ZJ There is a early deadline for Cystic Fibrosis Fund Drive A local volunteer worker will be calling at your door sometime between now and Sept. 15 asking for a donation to the Cystic Fibrosis fund drive. It may be Me»- dames George Kuncl, W. F. Peterson, Gerald Brennan or Rick Rudolph or some other good neighbor. Please contribute genei'ously as funds are surely needed for C. F. research and for the care of the more than 25,000 victims of this dreaded children's disease. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Fuhrer columns due to the holiday coming up. We join in extending our condolences to Mr. and Mrs. Louis Streich upon the death of her brother, Walter Olczyk. Mr. Olczyk was visiting the Streich home from Glendale, Calif, when he was stricken. He was only 52 years of age. Holiday Deadline Coming Up Labor Day is almost here so another early deadline for this column is near. The copy of this column must be in the office by noon on Friday, Aug. 30. Anyone wanting news items in next week's column, please call before noon this Friday. September 1 -- Bake Sale Time Next Sunday, Sept. 1, following all the masses at St. John's church, a bake sale will be held in the school. The usual variety of home baked articles will be on sale. The members of the Blessed Virgin Sodality are sponsoring this endeavor. These sales have been very popular in the past. The last few times they have run short, of items to sell. Please bake an extra large batch for your donation next Sunday. Try and make this the biggest sale yet! Vacationing Folks Ed. and Dot Hettermann, their son, Eddie, and nephew, Mike, spent a few days recently enjoying the sights and activities the beautiful Wisconsin Dells have to offer. The Harry Freund family returned home last week after spending sometime with her mother and other relatives in Coulterville. Mary Ellen had spent several weeks with her grandmother and returned home with her parents. And Now They Are Nurses Yes, and proud they should be at this accomplishment. I'm speaking of Georgette Miller and Janice Wakitsch. These two young ladies graduated from St. Therese School of Nursing last Sunday afternoon. Their parents, Bud and Rita Miller and Gerry and Marcella Wakitsch, along with other relatives and friends, watched most proudly as the girls received their diplomas. This was the climax of three years of hard work and lots of studying. I'm sure both Georgette and Jan will find it was well worth the time and effort. We wish them lots of good luck in their future years in the nursing profession. Hospital Patient L Little did Paul Boyk know he would end up in the hospital when he came out to visit the Ed. Hettermann family last Saturday. He and his wife, Henrietta, were just getting ready to return to Chicago after spending several hours in the ftettermann home when he suffered an attack. Several rescue squad members assisted him until he was taken in the squad ambulance to the McHenry hospital. At this writing he is resting comfortably and looking forward to returning home soon. Jet to Florida Marilyn Smith and Pam Monr6e of McHenry left by jet last week to spend a vacation in Miami, Fla. On Saturday. Janet Weingart left by jet to join them. All three will return around Labor Day. Home For The Winter Bob Hiller is now home to spend the winter with his family after spending the season playing ball in Florida. Honored At Shower Between thirty-five and forty ladies were present in the Bill Weber home recently to bestow gifts on Elaine Weber. These beautiful gifts will prove most useful following her forthcoming marriage. Elaine will exchange vows with Robert Otis in St. John's church on Sept. 14. Hostesses for this shower were Patti Weber, Marilyn Smith, Janet Smith, Nancy Weber and Patricia Weber. A most delicious lunch was served by the hostesses. That's it for another week.
