Duker, superintendent of the McHenry schools, will complete his season's studies at the Chicago university this week, when he will return to McHenry and arrange for the opening of schools here. Early Sunday morning six automobiles filled with relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ward, proceeded to t heir home in this city for the annual family reunion. The relatives of the Wards, who are all from the Chicago area/arrived early for breakfast and stayed for lunch and supper. The merry party was made up of twenty-four grown persons and sixteen children. Two baseball rivals who kept the fans on their toes in the days that have long passed by, staged a close and interesting battle on the Johnsburg diamond Sunday afternoon, the opposing teams being Irish Prairie and Johnsburg. The contest was won by the Johnsburg nine by a score of 8 to 7. The old Johnsburg battery, composed of Joe Miller and John Freund, was on hand to show the fans that they had not forgotten air they knew about the national pastime, while Kelly Conway officiated at the mound for the Irish lads and Walter K. Conway was his receiving partner. The largest crowd that ever witnessed a similar event in this resort territory saw last Sunday's boat races over the Fox river course as run under the auspices of the Fox River Valley Power Boat club. The Fox river bridge at McHenry, •as well as the Johnsburg bridge, were lined with spectators as were the shores of either side of the Fox, all the way from this city to the river's mouth, the crowd numbering several thousand people. Twenty-Five Years Ago Taken From The Files Of Sept 1, 1938 The Joseph Kattner farm, one mile east of Spring Grove, was the scene of the annual Kretchmer family picnic Aug. 28. It was the largest reunion of the family ever held, with approximately 215 guests present. The nine children of the late Frederick Kretchmer family were present, with ages ranging from 63 to 87. All are widows or widowers with the exception of Jthe youngest brother, who remarried after his wife's death.
