Spring Grove road, McHenry, became the bride of Mr. Donald R. Johnson, son of Mrs. Ralph C. Johnson of 4312 W. Crestwood, McHenry, in a beautiful ceremony performed last Saturday, Sept. 7, at 10 o'clock in St. John the Baptist church, Johnsburg. Rev. Dording officiated at the nuptial rite, for which the church was decorated with two bouquets of mums trimmed with yellow. Pretty Miss Schmitt walked down the aisle in a full length, chantilly lace sheath, featuring a sabrina neckline, three-quarter sleeves and a peek-a-boo anklo style skirt hem. Her bouffant taffeta train was detachable and closed with a bow at the front waistline. A taffeta and lace appliqued pillbox hoM a two-tiered petal veil of imported silk illusion, and she carried a white orchid and pompom mums. Elaine Schmitt of 4209 N. Spring Grove road acted as maid of honor, and Janet Smith of 3515 N. Riverside Drive was bridesmaid. They wore ballerina sheaths of gold satin peau de soie, featuring scoop necklines, short sleeves and circular detachable . overskirts which closed with a bow at the front waistlines and sculptured self roses and leaves extending up the front sides of the overskirt. Matching peau de soie petal hats with crystal trim held in place full veils, and they carried bronze and gold mums. John M. Johnson of McHenry served his brother as best man, and John Schmaling, also of McHenry, was groomsman. Mrs. Schmitt chose a Pebrina, royal blue design on black sheath dress with royal blue hat and gloves. Mrs. Johnson was attired in a silk, aqua sheath dress with white accessories. Dinner was served at noon at the Johnsburg Community club to forty guests, and later a reception was held there for 300 friends and relatives. The couple are enjoying a trip into Wisconsin and Michigan, and upon their return will reside on north Front street. The new Mrs. Johnson, a graduate of McHenry high school, also attended the Selan School of Beauty Culture in Chicago and is now employed at El's Beauty salon in McHenry. Other Births Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hawkins of McHenry are the parents of a son, John David, born Aug. 31 at Sherman hospital, Elgin. John has three brothers and four sisters to welcome him home. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Walter Krepel. Paternal grandparents are W. F. Hawkins and Mrs. Edna Carter both of Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Donald I. Rockel of Honolulu are the proud parents of a son, Daniel E., born Aug. 27. The proud father is stationed on the USS Jenkins at Pearl Harbor. The new mother is the former Christa Thode, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thode of Pistakee Highlands. The paternal grandfather is Victor Rockel, also of Pistakee Highlands. Todd is the name selected by FT/2 and Mrs. Thomas Murphy for their new son, born Aug. 27 in Charleston, S. Carolina. Todd, who weighed 8 lbs. 4 oz. at birth, has three brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Murphy is the former .Toan Weber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Weber. Mr. and Mrs. William Boyd Andrews of McHenry welcomed a girl, Steffanie Heller, born Aug. 23. They have a son. Memorial Hospital Woodstock During the past week patients admitted to Memorial hospital, Woodstock, included Elizabeth Patrick, Shirley Lieser and William Miller of McHenry; and Steve Harris of Wonder Lake. Harvard Hospital Mrs. William Haynes and Mrs. Thomas Sutton were admitted as patients in the Harvard hospital during the past week. Big jobs seldom go to people until they have outgrown smaller ones. Sweeney-Notz Nuptial Vows TThe sun shone brightly for the wedding of Mirs Maureen Ellen Sweeney on Saturday, Sept. 7, when she became the bride of Frederick John Notz at an 11 o'clock nuptial Mass in St. Peter's church, Spring Grove. Rev. Edward Lehman, pastor, officiated at the ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel B. Sweeney and the groom is the son of the late Charles Notz, Sr., and Mrs. Notz. Soloist at the mass was Frank Cassario of Chicago. The pretty dark-haired bride was radiant in a gown of white peau de soie with an over-skirt featuring an embroidered design and sweeping to the back in a chapel train. The bodice was fitted with long tapering sleeves and round neckline. Her bridal bouquet was white roses, stephanotis and ivy. The bride's sister, Mrs. Kathleen Boyd, served as matron of honor and friends of the bride, Miss Jody Weber and Miss Kathy Zeman, her bridesmaids. They were attired similerly in gowns of lavender-blue peau de soie. The ankle length sheaths were of oriental design, fashioned with a back feature of two panels from neckline to hem. Their veiled hats were of matching color. They carried c r e s c e n t - s h a p e d b o q u e t s o f white carnations, lavender blue asters and stephanotis. T'ne little flower girl was Laura Tichana and she wore a long white organza dress with lavender blue cummerbund and a wreath of matching flowers. Best man was Wayne Hanson, and Jim Garbe and Charles Notz, Jr., were groomsmen. Gerald Wissell, dressed in a tiny tuxedo, was ring bearer. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Sweeney chose a dress of royal blue and wore a pink rosebud corsage. The groom's mother wore blue and her corsage was also pink rosebuds. A reception for 150 guests was held at the American Legion hall in McHenry at 6 p.m. Out-of-town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Earl Donohue of DesMoines. Iowa, and Mrs. Jack Youngerman of Council Bluffs, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Spadanutta and Mr. and Mrs. Belvek came from Oceanside, N. Y. The bride is a 1962 graduate of Marian Central high school, Woodstock, and the groom attended Rockford college, Rockford. Following a trip to northern Wisconsin the young couple will make their home in Chicago. He is employed with A. J. Nielsen Co., Chicago, and she is with Halsey Stuart Brokerage in Chicago. Mrs. Anna Phalin, who has been visiting relatives here the past few weeks, has gone to Chicago to spend some time before returning to her home in Thorsby, Ala. Mrs. Carl Blanner of Rockford spent a few days last week in the home of her daughter, Mis. Robert Conway. While here in company with Mrs. Conway, Bob and Judy and the William Weyland family she attended a reunion of the Blanner family held at Ueterans Acres, Crystal Lake on Sept. 1. Edward Dwyer of Chicago, who returned recently from an extensive trip, was a weekend guest in the home of his sister, Mrs. Walter Walsh. Mrs. Kathryn Worts and Mrs. Alpha Pedersen attended a meeting and picnic of the McHenry County Past Oracles club held at the Algonquin park on Tuesday, Sept. 3, with Algonquin members as hostesses. The October meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Margaret Nason in, Algonquin. Mrs. Carolyn McLean of Chicago was' a guest in the home of Eleanor and Harold Wildhagen over the Labor Day holidays. Mrs. Florence Gibson of Dearborn, Mich., spent a few days last week in the home of her niece Mrs. Paul Patzke. Miss Peggy Hermann returned recently from a week's visit in the home of her aunt in Denver, Colo. She was accompanied by her grandmother, Mrs. William Hermann of Crystal Lake. Mrs. Ann Rodenkirch returned Sunday from Marycrest, Kankakee, where she spent the past two weeks in the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Fitzgerald, where she was called by the serious illness and death of her son-in-law. Complete Line of Dairy Products COOKS CORNER By Marie Schaettgen If you are serving steak to a crowd, cut off the tails and any other small pieces that seem to spoil the appearance of otherwise perfect steaks wrap them in' freezer paper after cutting pfl' ^ all fat and save them for a family supper. Wbcn ready to use, remove from freezer 2 hours before cooking. Let thaw partially. Cook before juices run out. Prepare them in this manner. Brown in your favorite shortening, in good sized frying pan. Remove meat and stir in flour (about 1 Tbsp. to 2 cups water). If drippings are brown enough remove from fire while stirring in flour and water. If not, let flour bro^n lightly before adding water. Let simmer for few minutes stirring occasionally, then add meat and let cook gently until done. If desired add small onions and carrots. If more gravy is wanted, stir flour and water in cup until smooth and add to meat. If too thick add water. Serve hot over mashed or boiled potatoes. May be served with noodles. Dettmer Rites Services were held in Mundelein Monday for Herbert F. Dettmer, 6?), of that city, father of Wayne Dettmer of McHenry, who died Friday, Sept. 6. Burial was private.
