Thursday, September 19* 1963 iriMM THE McHENRT PLAINDEALEH Page Seventeen McCullom Lake LITTLE LEAGUE TEAM TO ATTEND BRAVES-CUB GAME ^ Era LevetfM As recognition for the fine manner in which the members of the little league ball teams played all summer^ their general manager and coaches are treating them to a day at Braves Field, Milwaukee. They will witness a contest between the Braves and the Chicago Cubs on Saturday, Sept. 28. The boys and their chaperones will travel by bus« and are requested to be at the beach by 9:30 in the morning. We know this will be a most memorable day for the young fellas. Huge Soiree For 45th Wedding Anniversary Jean (looking radiant In blue lace trimmed with satin) and Hugh McDonald greeted guests on Sunday afternoon as they entered their establishment to pay homage to the couple marking their forty-fifth wedding anniversary. A large number of local people were present and many who traveled a considerable distance to attend. It was an interesting coincidence that the party was held exactly one year from the time the old Screwy Dozen organization had its reunion. Both affairs included many of the same folks. It would be impossible to list the name's of all who attended but there are some who deserve recognition. It was a thrill for Jean and Mac to see Mrs. Lou Gielow of Chicago who has been a long time family friend. Sarah and Harry Mackin were present and Mrs. Mercedes Huska paid a surprise visit. Marge Reid (all 7t> lbs., 8 oz., of her!) was on hand to pay homage and looks especially well since her serious surgery some years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Karl Blom and Dewey Fricke, with Bill Pickett in tow were also present. More guests included Mary and John Nihill, Sally and Papa Olsen, Marge and Fred Thornsen from Chicago, and of course, Lil and Lee Sawdo, and the Osterbys. A thousand pardons to all of those we didn't list. It was completely fitting that Lee Sawdo (one of the earliest of the permanent dwellers) proposed the toast to his long time friends. Ray Osterby performed at the piano and Marge Thomsen and her magnificent voice led the nostalgic singing. A sumptious buffet of baked ham, roast chicken and beef, plus salads of all varieties, lasagna, baked beans, spaghetti, and all the trimmings was served by Jean's sisters--Theresa Cunningham, Mary Kennenberg and Margaret Hatch. The women's daughters also offered valuable assistance. For the "sweet tooth" there were a multitude of delicious cakes, properly inscribed. All appetites were completely sated. We wish them both the very best as they look forward to the next anniversary which will mark 25 years in business next May! people from the area were present. By way of light entertainment, we were treated to the antics of Edgar Bergen, Charley McCarthy, and Mortimer Snerd! It was delightful. The second affair was a thrill for about 500 members of the Democratic party which assembled near Rockton last Friday to hear an address by Gov. Otto Kerner. Theresa Schultz, who served on the committee, spoke to the Governor and the many other prominent Democrats who were present. Theresa's guest was Sallie Olsen who has known the Governor and his wife for many years. It may come as a surprise to Tessie to know that her picture appeared on the front page of the Rockford paper. We have it on excellent authority. The repast was sumptious for both affairs. Village Board Because of the absence of three trustees which resulted in an insufficient number of village officials to constitute a quorum, there was no meeting of the board. The next one will be held Monday, Sept. 23, at 8 p.m. in the beachhouse. Good Luck On Friday, The ISth Superstitions were banished by the Ingersols, as Corky and Ken welcomed their fourth child, a girl, on Friday, the thirteenth. Heather Lee made her appearance at 2:07 a.m. at McHenry hospital with momma preceding her there at 1:30 a.m. According to daddy Ken she is beautiful, with blond curly hair. The wee miss checked in at 7 lbs., 4 oz. Considering himself an old "pro" at guessing games, Stewart Norbert Lorch predicted her birth would take place on the fourteenth, between 4 and 6 in the morning. He was off by a mere 25 hours! Pretty fair "guesstimating." ' The Ingersols once again come out even on the grapefruit with Carol--12, Dawn--9, and Kevin--6 as their other progeny. Paternal grandmother is Mrs. Liz Ingersol and we offer our heartiest best wishes to all concerned. les. Uncle Butch was home from Whitewater college, for the occasion. Another proud uncle is Allen, of course. Also on hand for the festivities were maternal grandparents, Shirley and Art Olsen, paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Gies, and maternal great-grandfather Papa Olsen and Sallie. The little lad was born on Aug. 29. Ladies Of The Lake A thousand pardons for mixing up the meeting date for the women!! I said it would be the fourth Thursday and it seems as though it is the second one in the month. In spite of the confusion, there were many persent for the meeting on Sept. 12. The gals have made plans to repair the1 tables in the beachhouse and have also planned a Hallowe'en party for next month. During the social hour, the women played games and the winners were Mary Kantorski, Grace Kinsey, Helen Scheid, Joanne Mai, Marie McKin, Helen Lorch and your reporter. Calorie laden "tasty pastry" was supplied by Grace Kinsey and Mary Kantorski. The next me«ting will be held Oct. 10. All women of the community are cordially invited. Presented At The Font The infant son of Kaaren and Chuck Gies was presented for baptism at St. Mary's church last Sunday at 2 p.m. with Father Baumhofer officiating. The sponsors were the child's aunt, Miss Miriam Gies, and John Bolger. Following the service, members of the family convened at the Gies home for a smorgasbord dinner which featured ham and beef. Not much more than babies themselves, Aunt Taina--5 and Aunt Lisa--3, were thrilled with the proceedings and especially with baby John Char- Prominent Politcal Parties We mean celebrations and not the organizations, themselves! Both Republicans and Democrats enjoyed a busy and hectic time last week. First event was the tremendous crowd of over 4,000 which assembled at a Chicago hotel to greet Senator Barry Goldwater. The occasion was the twentyfifth anniversary of the National Federation of Republican Women, celebrated with a 3 day convention. The dinner which featured the Senator from Arizona was held last Wednesday night. As chairman of the McHenry County Republican Central Committee, Jake Levesque (and I) were on hand. A large contingent of GO BIG on the BIG DAY FREE GIFTS FOR ALL. Sept. 27-28-29 OVv Bernie Maichen At BERNIE'S CITIES SERVICE Rt. 120 East of Bridge Flaunting Fate With scornful disregard fbr superstition, Jake Levesque attended one of the rare meetings of the Anti-Superstition Society. It was held on Friday, the thirteenth in the Gold Room of the Conrad Hilton Hotel, convening at 5:13 p.m. He and Alex MacArthur were the guests of state treasurer Bill Scott. In order to gain admittance, each of the 300 who attended had to walk under a ladder. Broken mirrors were the order of the day, and plenty of black cats around, too. The latter were thirteen lovely gals attired in black tight costumes and came in for more than their share of attention! Among the notables present were Lt. Gov. Shapiro, Senator Everett Dirksen (who addressed the assembly for 13 min., 13 seconds) and Judge Abraham Marovitz who was recently named to the federal District court by President Kennedy. He was named Man of the Day and presented with a watch which has 13! hours on it. to become grandparents in the very near future. Norma Comes Back I'm sure all of you remember Miss Norma Mendoza Alexandry of Mexico. She has been a pen pal of the Low family for a number of years, and last year Norma visited in the Low home for several weeks. Apparently Norma liked our part of the country, since she recently returned to attend the DeKalb University. Walt and Doris picked Norma up at the O'Hare airport in Chicago on Sept. T, then took her directly to the university for all of the arrangements to be made. Norma will celebrate her twentieth birthday this coming Sunday, Sept. 22, and I'm sure she would feel very welcome if we sent her a birthday card. How about it?
