The Thodes came to America from Germany in 1961 and moved to Big Hollow. July 28 of this year marks five years as home owners for them in the Highlands. They reside at 502 Sunrise and love the Highlands and America. Both are very proud and happy to be citizens of our great Country. The Thodes have five children, Carl, a First Lieutenant, navigator in the Air Force, now serving in France; Christa Rockel, wife of Don Rockel, a Navy man, living tai Hawaii; Gurgen, 17, a senior at McHenry high school, Antje, a sophmore at McHenry High, and is 15 years old and their baby, Heidi, who is two years eld. The Thodes are members of the All Saints Lutheran church on Grass Lake Road. They plan no big celebration at this time. They want to wait until all the children are home. Robert and Emily will go out for a quite dinner. All your friends join me in wishing you both much happiness. Thelens Celebrate 43 Anniversary Oct. 27 Arthur and Celia Thelen celebrated their fortythird wedding anniversary. They started the day with a Mass of Thanksgiving at 8:30 a.m. in St. John's church. Art and Celia enjoyed a big dinner at their home with their children and grandchildren. On hand for the big day were their daughter and hubby, Juliette and Steve Donellan, and their children, Barbara and Billy, of Chicago; their daughter, Delma, and hubby, Don Monte, and their children, Nancy, Duane, Doreen and David, from Menomiee Falls, Wis., and their son, Harold, and his lovely wife, Lois, and their children, Sandy, Mark and Beth, of Wilmot Road. Art and Celia received many beautiful gifts and loads of cards. Both are enjoying the best of health and are very active and busy folks. by Rev. Swanson while he served there as a Missionary. Oct. 27 was Laymen Sunday at Mount Hope church and Layman Harold Wiley gave the sermon entitled "Company of the Committed." Since it was Laymen Sunday lay members took part in conducting the services. Lay Sunday is a special day set aside to give the pastor a view of the laymen's capabilities of conducting services. Dee Bischoff and Dee Gregg have tickets for the upcoming Square dance to be sponsored by the organ fund committee. The members of Mount Hope church are very happy with their Hew pastor, Doenecke. He is a shining example to them and hi^great sense of humor and warmth touches them all. Women's Club Notes Janice Janquart is very busy compiling notes as the club's historian to make a complete history of the club for future years. Are you looking for a relief of the daily humdrum of household chores?. If you are, please plan to attend the big "Luncheon Is Served" to be held Nov. 13 at 12:30 p.m. in the community center. It will not only be i) fun day for you and plenty of delicious food, it will give you a chance to meet your friends and neighbors. Auxiliary Card Party And Smorgasbnard A special invitation is extended to every one to attend the big card party and smorgasboard sponsored by the Women's auxiliary of the Lake Region Legion Post 703 to be held Nov. 3 at the Legion home on Route 12, starting at 3 p.m. There will be many prizes and much delicious food.. Mount Hope Church Notes The Women's Society of Christian Service will hold their big bazaar, Nov. 2, from 4 to 9 p.m. There will be many booths and loads of good food on hand. There will be some thing for all and the women have been busy making so many beautiful things for the sale. Oct. 20, after services at the Ringwood Methodist church, many parishioners of Mount Hope joined in a big reception for Rev. Roland Swanson a for mer minister of Mount Hope church. Every one cn hand enjoyed the films of Africa made Birthdays and Anniversaries Audrey Misaviee will be celebrating her birthday Nov. 6. My nephew, Patrick Daley, celebrates his big day with a party Nov. 2, and a belated birthday wish to Dick Sabielny who celebrated his birthday Oct. 20. Joe Chutca and his daughter, Jeanne, will be celebrating their birthdays the first week in November, Jeanne Petrov celebrates her big day Nov. 5. Three couples will be celebrating their anniversaries, all your friends and neighbors join me in wishing the following couples much future happiness together; E.. and Fran Groth will add another year of togetherness to their happy marriage Nov. 4. It will be 13 years for Ed. and Fran. Nov. 4 Jack and Mary Seldon will be celebrating their anniversary, Last but not least a very popular couple, Skip and Harriet Wil son, will be celebrating their anniversary Nov. 7. Harriet is a wonderful civic minded gal she is the Teen leader and Brownie leader, Skip has been an officer in the Community association. American Legion meeting at the Palmer House in Chicago. Best wishes for a speedy recovery go to Miriam Brikwedel who underwent surgery Oct. 21 at the McHenry hospital. Oct. 24, Jeanne Millstrom and Betty Johnson attended the Democratic Women's organization in McHenry. Mrs. Ann Ayers took a trip with some friends from Antioch to visit with some of their old school chums in Arkansas. They enjoyed seeing each other after all the passing years. Oct. 27 Steve Petroy and his father held a Sliva-Day celebration in his home. All the members of his family were on hand for this> celebration Connected with their religion. This was the last chance for all the family to be together before Steve's sister, Cvta Snyder, leaves for her home in Yugoslavia. Cvta will leave Nov. 5. She has really enjoyed her slay in America seeing all her family and all the sights in America, she made the very most of every minute of her stay here. Arthur Ernst one of our very nice retired senior citizen has been getting up early every morning to practice long time favorite hobby of photography. He has been walking up the hill to get beautiful sunrise fall scenes. From our hill we have a breath taking view. Art has a very large and beautiful collection of photos. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Zielinski /Spent last Saturday in Chicago visiting their children. As soon as i have the meeting place of the Round Table meeting for the Cub and Boy Scout Leaders to be held Nov. 14. I will have it in the column so you may be on hand for the important meetings. Ray and La Verne Madock have been enjoying visits with their grandsons from Chicago. Last weekend Danny and Jimmy Madock of Chicago and this weekend they will have the other two boys, Rickie and Mike Madock. Oct. 24 Janice Janquart and Haze Morley were visitors of the first grade in Johnsburg school. The girls enjoyed being a part of the classes and to see first hand what their two sons are accomplishing. Oct. 20 several relatives from Skokie and Chicago were on hand at the Dick Sabielny home to help Dick celebrate his birthday. It is so nice to see Agnes Wroblewski getting up and around again after her recent surgery and illness. She is once again taking her usual interest in life and we hope you continue to make progress. Ray Cunningham has been taking lessons at the Fox Lake police station on policing and drunkameter servicing. Ray is a volunteer policeman and does regular patrol work in the area. Before moving to the Highlands Ray was a volunteer fireman for Fox Lake and is still active with the group on occasion. Due to the wonderful weather we have been having Broadway from Fox Lake Road to Round Hill has been completly blacktopped and graveled. The road is now completed and up to county specification. Milt and Betty Croasdale returned Oct. 22 after spending five days in Cicero with Betty's sister whose husband suffered a heart attack. The next association meeting will be held Nov. 6, at 8 p.m. It is hoped the attendance will pick up at these monthly meetings. The newsletter was ready for distrubition last week, all home owners should have received their copies. Jane Malek reports she has received five more women for playground supervision at St. John's. She still needs twenty more women. and Pistakee Hills to join so they may have a large working troop. Girl Scout Notes Girl Scout Leader Mrs. Frances Groth spent Tuesday, Oct. 22, in Crystal Lake where she attended an all day session on basic girl Scout training. At the regular monthly meeting Oct. 31, the Girl Scouts will enjoy a Girl Scout Troop birthday party, Investiture and rededication services. Be sure your Scout is on hand for the big event. Last Minute News Items For the first time in weeks Joe Gregg, who has been very ill, was able to get out and go for a drive, Oct. 22 he and Mabel enjoyed a trip around the countryside and to Griswold Lake. Hope you continue to make progress in your recovery Joe but take it easy for a while. Keep your porch lights aglow tonight for all the little costumed witches, ghosts and hobgoblins who will be ringing your doorbells for ""Tricks Or Treats." Nov. 3, Art and Celia Thelen and Joe and Alvina Miller will spend the day with Celia's sister and Tubby. Mr. and Mrs. Reinmuller in Skokie. They all will enjoy a delicious dinner. A belated happy birthday wish goes to Kathy Jensen who celebrated her eleventh birthday Oct. 24. She celebrated with a few friends. # Oct. 18, Bob Hurckes and six of his friends left for South Dakota where they enjoyed hunting for pheasant and other game. The boys came home Oct. 26 loaded with game for the' winter. While Bob was gone, Lorraine was busy entertaining relatives who kepi; her busy so she wouldn't be to lonely. Oct. 19, Lorraine received a surprise visit from her uncle, A1 Rix from Tacoma, Wash., who was in Chicago on Brownie Notes The Brownies enjoyed a Halloween party Tuesday, Oct. 28. All the Brownies were in costume and the party was a big success. Tuesday, Oct. 28, Mrs. Harriet Wilson and Mrs. Jane Malek attended the Round Table discussion in Woodstock. business, ^Lorraine's mother, Mrs. Rix of Chicago, accompanied A1 to see Lorraine. They drove to McHenry to pick up Lorraine's grandmother, Mrs. Rix, and her friend, Irv Kech. They all enjoyed the visit with A1 and Lorraine served them a delicious dinner. Sunday Oct. 20, Bob's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hurckes; of Chicago, spent the day with Lorraine and they too enjoyed orie of Lorraine's delicious dinners. Lorraine was happy to have Bob home as were all the boys. Oct. 20, Russ and Bonnie Jensen and their two children attended the barber shop quartet program in Waukegan. They enjoyed the headliners, the Buffalo Bills. The complete list of officers for the Pistakee Highlands association is: President Milton Croasdale, Senior, vice-president, William Lange, financial secretary, Betty Warczak, treasurer, Richard Farwell, secretary, Lee Conway, sergeantat- arms, Henry BOeiens. The trustees are: Betty Croasdale, Mae Kolb, Ted Wroblewski, Everett Brown, Edward Kolan, and John Heineman. Their terms fill all vacancies for 1963-64. If you are interested in resuming fun night activities you are invited to call Richard Farwell at Hyatt 7-3260. If it has been decided to resume fun nights the announcement will be made at the association meeting. It is up to the residents if they wish it to be resumed. Your full support would make it possible. We wish to extend our deepest sympathies to Ellen Du- Laney and the three children on the untimely death of her husband, Dick, who died Oct. 22 in his home. All your friends and neighbors are standing by to give you all helping hand through this sorrowful time. Oct. 19, Forrest and Grace Reinhardt attended a wedding of a relative in Chicago. Roy and Gert Snell spent last week in Chicago. While there they attended the "Old Timers" luncheon. The Qub^ meets twice a year an eVent Roy and Gert look forward to nothing like old friends. Oct. 26 Charlie and Diana Murgatroyd and family attended a family reunion at the home of Diana's sister, Barbara, in Maywood. They sjpent Saturday evening with Diana's parents and came home Sunday. Oct. 20 Liesl Hanisch and her son, George, and Eva VanEmpl of Ingleside spent the afternoon in Gurnee and surrounding areas. In closing I hope all the kiddies have a very happy Halloween. Please be kind to one another and may God take a special liking to each and every one of you. Your fine cooperation with news items makes my job so much easier and lots less work. Please be very careful while driving tonight with all the little folks out in costume we do not want the fun to end in a tragedy. They have purchased the Dick Zilligen home at 5417 N. Thelen Drive, and spent last week moving and are very busy getting all settled.
