Thursday, December 12, 1963 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER McCullom Lake REINDEER-O-GRAM STATES SANTA TO ARRIVE EARLY **- Eve Levesqoe A "reindeer-o-gram" was sent from the North Pole and delivered to Roger Kinsey, president of the Cullom-Knoll Association stating that Santa Claus planned to visit our village on Friday, Nov. 20, between 7:30 and 8*30 p.m. with so many children to vi3it all over, he must conserve his time. Small fry up to the age; of 12 are asked to assemble in the beachhouse for this very special visit! There will be "goody' stockings for every good little girl and boy, filled with candy, nuts, and toys. Allen McKin and Rich Johnson will be Santa's helpers that night and of course, the Cullom-Knoll Association is acting as Santa's agent. This is one occasion, the wee ones won't want to miss. Yule Contribution To Retarded Children At the special meeting of the Ladies of the Lake held Thursday, Nov. 26, the women chcse to help the unfortunate youngsters confined to the Lincoln- Dixon Schools. By unanimous decision, they voted to contribute fifteen dollars which will purchase a commissary card good for one month, for fifteen children. This was done last year also. The women will have their Christmas party at the Earl Nelson home on Thursday, Dec. 19, beginning at 8 p.m. Marge Olsen will be in chargeof this affair and has selected her committee. Petey Schmidt will assist. Those who plan to attend are asked to bring a one dollar exchange gift. It will be a very festive occasion with lots of succulent dishes on the menu. Mrs. James (Bernice) Brown, a newcomer to the community, was accepted for membership in absentia. They are only weekend visitors, at this time. Following the meeting, the gals enjoyed a social hour and played games. Happy with the results were Betty Reiter, Bobbie Carroll, Marge Olsen, Lois Parent i, Sally Olsen, Marie McKim, Edith Brendle, and this reporter. Marge Olsen served a yummy date nut cake frosted with caramel icing, while Lois' contribution was a delicious pineapple upside down confection. Plenty of calories! but, oh so tasty! There will be NO meeting of the organization tonight! years. We couldn't be happier for this fine family! Bridal Attendant Mrs. James Carroll will attend her sister as matron of honor next Saturday, in Chicago. Jim, and the boys will be guests at the wedding and reception also. Details next column. Sojourn In K. C. For Mary K. A delightful visit of about six weeks ended for Mary Kan torski last Saturday. She was a very welcome member of the household of SOT, Bob, and his delightful and charming bride, La verne. Mary left our shores the end of October to'stay with them. While in their city, the three made sever#! trips of note, including a visit to Independence, Mo., where they toured former president Truman's library. When Mary first arrived, Laverne's two sisters from Ohio were also guests and Bob really had a "harem"! According to Mary, their home is one of splendor and beauty, featuring two fireplaces, two baths, two bedrooms, living room, HUGE kitchen, family room, and a full basement. A lovely patio is perfect for outdoor dining, and the entire building is situated on three quarters of an acre. Thanksgiving was really festive as we reported in an earlier column. Guests were Bob's sister and husband, .lo and Bob Loesch, and the apple of their eye and his bride, Nancy and Ken. Mary returned by train cm Saturday, and the younger Kantorskis called Sunday and want her back! Poor Health Causes Goofs Two mistakes in last issue and we humbly apologize. So sorry we omitted Lorraine and John Boyle from the roster of local folks who attended the Henny Youngman soiree. Lorraine was beautifully gowned and they were obviously enjoying themselves. We stated the village board meeting for Dec. 10 when it should have read Dec. 9. FeastOf The Haggis Jake and I were fortunate enough to learn more about customs of other lands when we were the guests of Alex MacArthur last Saturday night, at a downtown hotel. The occasion was the feast of the Haggis celebrated by the St. Andrew's organization, for people of Scot descent. The meal was sumptious, and the "Haggis" is formally introduced with bagpipes and drums. The dish consists of pounded barley, liver, and heart, an<i properiy seasorted. Yes, we sampled some. The men wore kilts and the ladies wore banners featuring the family tartan. Favorite speaker was the Lord Provost of Edinburgh, a thoroughly delightful character. Others in the party included Sheriff and Mrs. Richard Ogilvie, Lucy and Dick Cain, Louise and Hayes Robertson, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Gammie, and three other couples. A most enlightening and entertaining evening. Hospital Confinement Ends After a grueling eight weeks as a patient at Lake Forest hospital it was one happy village trustee that arrived home Saturday. Frank Parkhurst was welcomed by his lovin* Ginny and two daughters. According to Frank, not too much improvement--but he is home!
