The election will take place in the beachhou.se. , With so many antiquated and flQb-standard septic systems in the area, the need for such a •system is acute. Most dwellings do not comply with county building codes and CANNOT, because of lack of property. After the first of the year, teams of persons, who have been thoroughly familiarized with ihe program, will visit every household in the village to present the pi ins with re gard to cost, financing, rind will answer questions put to them. It is Ihe desiie of the village board thnt eveiyone should know all the facts regarding the sev er system. The vote will be for a sewage plant ONLY! A water system has not been discussed because most of our wells seem more than adequate for present needs. Enhances Festive Mood The cold weather enhanced rather than detracted from the festive niood donned by the gals as they gathered at Earl Nelson's home for the annual Yule party last Thursday p.m. The committee had done a magnificent job of decorating and garlands of green and red crepe paper dripping with icicles were suspended from the ceiling. A small but bushy tree was appropriately trimmed and formed the centerpiece on the dessert table. Games were played by the women for lovely prizes, The most popular seemed to be a darling pink organdy apron and a handsome black and gold ashtray. These two items exchanged hands frequently during the course of the evening while "rebbor ognib" was going on! A luscious: array of tempting dishes including hot beef sandwiches, potato salads, molded salads, and trimmings helped to sate hungry appetites. For those not calarie conscious, there was; "broken glass" cake, cream cheese pastry, chocolate cake and home made Christmas cookies of a "thousand" varieties. Two kinds of "spiked" punch helped to loosen inhibitions! The success of the affair can be attributed to-the efforts of Marge Olsen, Petey Schmidt, Mario McKim and Elma Nelson. Niew member Gail Johnson waM accorded a fine welcome. Those who were lortunate enough to take home prizes in addition to the exchange gift were Emma Pyritz, Sally Olsen, Alice Gustafson, Petey Schmidt, Magda Berglund, Gertrude Murphy, Bobbie Carroll, Elma Neslon, Harriet Mc- Namara, Iiois Parenti, Joanne Mai, Helen Scheid, Edith Brendle and Louise Berquist. Jim is Will Schultz's nephew and both Tcssie and Will are very happy and anxious to meet the new littly missy. Excited grandparents are Edith and Sal Tamburino who are frequent visitors to our shores. The election was held Saturday, Dec. 14, from noon 'til 7 p.m. and Elma Nelson, Emma Pyritz, and Eleanor Creutz officiated as judges. In spite of the freezing temperatures, sixty-seven hardy souls presented themselves at the polls to cast thirty-four yes and thirty two no. There was one spoiled ballot. Johnsboyg r"; REPORTER URGES FOLKS TO REVIEW PAST YEAR EVENTS Bettjr UttttoMnnn With Christmas upon us and the New Year close at hand, I would like to extend wishes to one and all of you for "Happy Holidays." I think this time of the year each of us should take stock of ourselves. Take a few minutes out of your busy schedule and rep cap what this past year has been to you. I know there have been several bad things that have happened to certain people through these past twelve months but there is always a brighter side. I'll bet if each of us made lists of the good and bad things tjiat. crossed our lives in the past year, the gcod things will be more easily remembered. There are a lot of things we take for granted in Hhis country that people in other countries would maybe give their lives for. Fire and Rescue Squad Calls The men of station 2 answered a call recently near Pistakee Highlands. Fire damaged the interior of an unoccupied house. The McHenry firemen and equipment were also called. In the bitter cold of Friday morning the firemen were called to assist the McHenry squad in extinguishing a fire on a farm on Route 31 and Ringwood Road. 2,328 calls answered by the Johnsburg rescue squad is the up to date count. On Dec. 15, the men were called to the La Fontaine home when young Billy fell and broke his leg. This is the third time that leg has been hurt. He was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph's hospital, Elgin. The leg was once again put into a cqust and Billy returned home on Tuesday. i On Dec. 17, the rescue squad answered a call in Eastwood Manor where an elderly woman suffered respiratory trouble. She was treated on the scene. With the end of 1963 so close, the members of the Johnsburg rescue squad acknowledge the cooperation from the public during this past year. They have high hopes for even more in 1964. Of course, there isn't much more we can say of the squad that hasn't been said before. They deserve every bit of cooperation they get. Let's hope that count does not increase over this holiday season. Hospital Patients Mrs. Doris Freund is recuperating at her home after undergoing surgery at the McHenry hospital last week. Young Charlie Boak didn't get home as planneo last Wednesday. He had a slight set back and his doctor thought it best to keep him in Victory Memorial until the weekend. We all hope he is in good shape to enjoy what "good old Santa" will be bringing him. Home For The Holidays The Charlie Smith heme, as well as the Fred Karpenski home, the Joe Hiller home and the Walter Durrenberg home all plan on being a little happier this weekend. Their boys are all hoping to be home for the holidays. At this writing the only one I know of that is home, is Fred Durrenberg. He arrived home by bus from Fort Knox, Ky. Thursday evening. I hope all these ooys enjoyed Christmas and New Yean$ with their families. Hugh Nelson arrivda home Tuesday for a month's nirlough. He has spent the past sixteen months stationed in Naples, Italy. His father and Mrs. Christman are so very happy to have him here. Flying Around Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schmitt were scheduled to fly to Texa9 last Friday. They will spend several weeks visiting their son, Paul, and his family. Taking off for warmer places is Mrs. Anna Guyser. She was due to fly to California last Monday for a month's stay. About this time of the year, I think everyone is ready to find warmer spots--especially this past week. It's just downright cold! Birthday Corner Emitt Roberts is in line for congratulations on Dec. 29. "Happy Birthday" also to Mary Wakitsch. Best wishes of the day to everyone who has either a birthday or anniversary in December. One More Early Deadline Just a last minute reminder of the early deadline again next week. All news items should be phoned in by noon Friday, Dec. 27. Be sure to call me and let us share in your holiday doings. Happy and blessed holidays to all! And now another year coming up . . i all too quickly . . . how they seem to rush by! As always, the beginning of another year is a good time to consider how much happier and better life is when God is in it. And just as important is the resolution to share this knowledge with others. True, any Sunday can be a new beginning. But strengthened by past experience, make this year a truly memorable one. Start taking your family to church regularly. Claim your birthright of peace and forgiveness in sincere worship. FOR ALL.. ALL FOR THE CHURCH The Church is the greatest factor on earth for the building of character and good citizenship. It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the Church. They are: (1) For his own sake. (2) For his children's sake. (3) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material support. Plan to go to church regularly and read your Bible daily.
