i. tm r PliUkee Terrac* JANICE BUSH ATTENDED ROSE PARADE AND GAME Joyce Toepper -- 385-8044 It would seem the Terrace Spent a rather quiet New Year's Eye and day from my calls today. 1 imagine the best New Year's of all was had by Janice Bush out at the Rose Bowl parade and game esj>ecially with Illinois coming out on top. Janice returned home on Thursday evening and was off to school again on Sunday. New Year's Eve found Pat and Mickey Ferrell entertaining a housefull including the William Kerns, Willard Hillmans, George Aleckos, Jim Deppmeiers, Bob Froehligs and Frank Dacks along with Pat's father, Gus Trampas, and her sister, Mary, and other friends from Chicago. Joan and Dick Stull saw the New Year in at the home of Gladys and Marvin Jones, in Fox Lake. Arlene and. Jerry CoMlerty travelled all the way to the Hon Wiggermann home for the evening. Can't think of a better way to see the old year out or the new year in. The Len Toepper family drove up to his parents' home in TrWor, Wis., for New Year's Eve and again on New Year's day for dinner. January first dinner gue&ts at the Anthony Kurowski home were members of Clara's family, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Lark, Melrose Park, Mr. and Mrs. J. Hayes, and family, Chicago, and Bernard Lark, Chicago. The Cal Vyduna family joined Cal's family at'the Wheeling home of his sister and family & the Glenn Oaks. Terrace Tidings Birdie Deppmeiers brother, Ron Walters, wrote that he dined at the home of TV announcer Ed McMed^on from the Tonight show on Thursday, Jan. 2. Mary, George and Mike Mecko accompanied by Irmn Gunther visited with their daughter, Sister Maria del Rey, O.S.F., at Joliet on Sunday. The Russell Parker lamily with the exception of Kathi, who was confined at home for one week following Christmas with a sore throat, were treated to dinner in a Fox Lake restaurant on Sunday by Dorothy's aunt and ur^cle, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tesch, Park Ridg£. Helping Cheryl Stahlman celebrate her fifteenth birthday on Jan. 2 was Rita Harbeck as^an overnight guests at the Stahlman home. BUSINESS ACTIVITY IS REFLECTED IN RECENT REPOST McHenry has more reference listings in the most recent book of Dun and Bradstrcet than any other city in the county. The local community also showed an increase of eleven over the previous year. Statistics reflect the activity of the business population in the county during the past twelve months. Figures show on Jan. 1, 1964, 1,599 manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers in the county compared to 1,513 the previous January. This was followed by Crystal Lake with 316; Woodstpck, 240; Harvard, 144; MarengoJ/ 108; Algonquin, 99; Cary, 84; Richmond, 57; and Fox River Grove, 53. Dog licenses are now on sale in the village »of Lakemoor; If yofci haven't purchased your 1964 dog license yet, /you may obtain them from Pat Morrison, the village clerk. In order to purchase the license you must show your dog's current rabies certificate. The deadline for the licfnse is Feb. 15. Village stickers are now on sale. You may purchase your vehicle sticker or dog license from Pat Morrison at 119 W. Valley View. Deadline for vehicle is Feb. 15. Please remember no office nours on Sundays. Registration for French and Italian instruction will be on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 8 p.m. Classes begin on the following Thursday, Jan. 16, from 8 to 10 p.m. Mrs. Robert Bird, a talented teacher and linguist,, will teach both French and Italian. Mrs. Bird speaks Italian, French, Arabic, Latin and reads Spanish. She graduated from the University of Pisa, has traveled extensively, and continues to widen her considerable knowledge by studying psychology and art education. Painting classes reconvened on Monday, Jan.. 6, at 8 p.m. The instructors are Mrs. Marilyn Bacon and Mrs. Mar* tha Thompson. Mrs. Bacon, a well known local artist, has studied at the Art Institute of"Chicago, the"'. Academy Applied Arts, and * the Memphis Art Institute. M Shei has exhibited.,her work in I > Chicago, and currently has a IF show of her paintings in Mc-ll Henry. Mrs. Thompson, also well known* received her degree from Ohio State university. She has taught art at Bridgeport and Cincinnati, Ohio. Her paintings, have been exhibited at Wheeling, West Virginia, Libertyville, Lake Geneva, Brigadoon and McHenry. Arts and crafts class will begin the following Monde Jan. 13, from 8 to 10 p.m. William Kinsala will teach sand casting, plastic laminating and other methods of design. Mr. Kinsala received his art degree from Woodward college, Los Angeles, after serving in the armed forces. His post graduate work included six months in Japan, studying design. He is the original designer of paint-it-yourself wall murals. He has done window display design in the Los Angeles area, and his designs have been shown extensively.
