Jaasary S. 2SS3 Plitikes Highlands Tyro FAMILIES BLEST WITH NEW YEAR'S BABIES Pay Btonaek oiatt 7-Mi« • Glenn and Elaine Galetka areAthe proud parents of a baby daughter, born Dec. 27 at the McHenry hospital. Darlene Jane Was born on Elaine's dad's birthday so grandpa can not forget that big event every year so easily. I am happy some thing nice has happened to Glenn and Elaine, Glenn suffered a broken leg at work. He .will be unable to work until May. Charlie and Diana Murgatroyd are the proud parents of a baby boy, bom Dec. 30 at 7:15 p.m. in the McHenry hospital. Baby David weighed in at 6 lbs., 2 ozs. Both mother and son are doing nicely, Baby David was welcomed home by his dad, Charlie, and three brothers, Steve, Jimmy and Billy and two sisters, Joyce and Mary Ann. Diana's sister Mary Ellen arrived Dec.' 30 to take care of the kiddies. Sunday, Dec. 29, Audrey and Don Morin welcomed a very special niece. Audrey's sister, Jackie Piotrowski of Chicago, gave birth to a'six weeks premature baby daughter. The baby weighed 3 lbs., 1 oz., and was only 15 inches long. Jackie and her hubby Pete have been married eight years and always hoped they would be blessed with a new arrival. Audrey is" so thrilled for her sister. The baby will stay in the hospital until her right weight has been reached. The baby has been named after the sister's mother, Lyla Jean. All of Jackie's friends iri the Highlands send their best wishes and heartiest congratulations. my sister, Mary Ann, and hubby Clate Jesweak, Jan. 16, I was their bridesmaid for the big event. To,a very popular couple Tom and Mamie O'Neill who will be celebrating their big day Jan. 15. Greetings From Former Residents^ I was most, happy to receive word from Barb Muszalski, the former Barb Schlick, who now resides in Redwood City, Calif., where Jim is employed. Jim and Barb love it there. and Barb says " she still reada my column most faithfully etfery week." It was nice hearing from you Barb, so we all send a big Hi to you and Jim, ^ind we are so glad you're keeping in touch with the Highlands news. It is always nice to be remembered by fornher residents. Also had a card and note from Howard and Fran Mc- Creery who now live in Riverside^ Calif., where Howard is a real estate broker. They both love California but miss their friends in the„ ^Highlands where they had ms(de their home for several yearS. Hope we hear from you all more often in 1964. Mount Hope Church News Sunday, Dec. 29, was observed as student recognition day. It is always held during the time that the young people are home from college over the Christmas holidays. Bob Fletcher assisted Rev. Doenecke at the 11 o'clock worship service. Bob is a sophomore at Austin-Peay college, in ClarJ^sville, Tenn. Walter Perschke gave a short talk on the "Church's Responsibilty to Youth." Walter is teaching history at a military academy in Park Ridge, and taking advanced degree work at the University of Chicago. Rev. Christian Doenecke preached on the topic: "Does Our Christmas Abide." Mrs. Stanley Doenecke sang a special solo, "Love Came Down at Christmas." Please Drive Careful On Broadway Now that all the kiddies are trying their new Christmas sleds out by going down our hill on Broadway, please be very careful^ There have been two very close calls the past two weeks, both times, I stood horrified. The children in the Highlands refer to this hill as suicide hill. Let's hope it does not become more than the title. Sliding is a wonderful sport for children of all ages and we are lucky to be blessed with so many hills for this sport, be especially careful" when you come off Meadow Hill Lane. St. John's News The Holy Name society is in the midst of their annual membership drive. A reception for the new members will be held in " the church Sunday evening, Jan. 12. The next meeting of the "Blessed Virgin Sodality will be held Jan. 14, at 8 p.m. at the Johnsburg Community Center. Anniversary greetings go to News of Your Friends and Neighbors I am sorry to report another senior citizen is still confined in the McHenry hospital. Joseph Konroth became ill Christmas Eve and was taken to the hospital. We hope you will be coming home very soon and in good health. How about some cards for Joe? Mr. Nato of Broadway, enjoyed a vacation during the holidays. Once again some one is trying to break into the community center. All the locks were jammed. It is a shame we can't have one place safe from vandals in the Highlands. If the folks who live near there will call the police when they see folks there doing damage it would be a great help and would stop the vandalism. Joe and Mabel Gregg enjoyed a big Christmas dinner with their friends in Griswold Lake, they had dinner with some friends in Trout Valley, in Cary. Our deepest sympathies go to Dick Morley, whose grandmother, Mrs. Peterson, passed away Dec. 28, at the home of her daughter in Solda, Minn. Dick's mother left the same day to attend her mother's funeral, Dick was sorry he could not attend the funeral. His grandmother had been in very poor health for several years. The next meeting of the Women's Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 703 will be held Jan. 13, at 8 p.m. Our deepest sympathy goes to Stanley Schliben on the death of his father, Stanley, Sr., who passed away Christmas Eve, at Stan's home, at 3 p.m. Stan and my hubby Wally have been riding to work together for the past eight years and both had come home early from work. Stan had been home only two hours when his dad passed away. Mr. Schliben was 92 years young. He was laid out at the funeral home in Chicago at 3315 Irving Park Road, Requiem Mass was sung for him at the Holy Innocents church and interment was in St. Adalbert's cemetery, Dec. 27. It was a very sad Christmas for Stan and his wife, Rose, and their family.] Their son, Jimmy, who is -in the Navy was home for the holidays %nd returned to Washington where he was stationed ,Dec. 28. Sorry to report that Stanley Darmody who spent three months in a Waukegan hospital dnd had just been dismissed to spend Christmas with his family, was taken to a hospital in Chicago Dec. 29. The Darmodys have been having it rough, let's all pray that 1964 will be a much better year fopthem in health and security. ^ Arthur and Clara Ernst spent New Years Eve and Day at the home of their daughter, Clara Stratford, in Chicago, where all the family gathered to welcome in the New Year and they all enjoyed a big dinner. Thirty-five couples enjoyed the New Year's party held at the Community Center. The food was delicious and the music was grand, every one attending had a great time. _• Jan. 3, Margaret, better known as Missy Hillstrom, celebrated her third birthday with a little family party, cake and all the works. | Please folks how about feeding the birds? They are starving and just a few bread crumbs, seeds or cake will keep them alive. Herb and Lorraine Lindemann who had been on the go all during the holidays were most happy to spend New Year's at home, New Year's day they took a trip to Gold Mills where they attended a movie and enjoyed having dinner in the beautiful restaurant near by. j A thought I will tiy to live by this year, God [willing: "Dear God, give me strength to accept with Serenity the things that cannot be changed. Give me Courage to change the things that can and should be changed. And give me the Wisdom to distinguish, one from the other. Always trying to keep in mind. "Thy Will Be Done," which is & very hard thing to do many times and to be very grateful for all of my Blessings both good and bad, for they equalize them selves.
