Home from Germany The Jack Moores are happy lo have their son home again. Jack, Jr., arrived home Dec. 26 after 1-% years in Germany in the "Armed Services. He left his fiance in Germany and expects to go back for her within a year. He brought a lovely silver coin locket and chain for his Mother and gold coin cuff links for his Father. Welcome home, Jack! Belated Birthday Greetings To Mrs. Anna Hiffman who was 82 years young on Dec. 29. Get-Well Wishes To all those who have been or are on the sick list. Especially Neil Carlson, Margaret Evans, Jo Pryor, Ruth Woodward, Mr. Zanhizer, and Sonia Brill. Osteite Richardson Dies at Home Miss Estelle Richardson, 82, who resided at 5205 W. Lake Shore Drive was found dead in her home last Saturday morning by a neighbor who customarily looked in on her each m'prning to see if she was alright. Miss Richardson had died in her sleep. Her only relatives are two nephews, one in California and one in Colorado. Funeral for Miss Richardson was held at Christ the King Church on Monday morning. head of the Barnard Mill Community Center -- Frank G. Sulewski, assistant to the regional director of the Chicago Region Post Office Department, was the speaker at the Kiwanis meeting Monday, Jan. 20 at Millie's. He gave a summary of the new procedures on post office operation, and how they effect Wonder Lake. Mr. Sulewski is no stranger to Wonder Lake. He. was principal speaker at the post office dedication. At our last meeting "the hand is quicker than the eye" was proven by a young lad from Marion high school, who entertained for the group with a professional display of tricks and magic. Battle Ax winner was Bob Bruce. A letter was read from the Children's Home acknowledging the Christmas stockings sent to the Christmas basket collection by the Highland Shores Community Club. Those stockings not used in the basket were taken to the Children's Home by Rev. Breneman. On Feb. 3, George Pederson, pur former president and a past Lt. Gov. of Kiwanis, who is now president of the South-* fern Illinois University Alumni Association, will give a talk on the growth of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Girl Scouts Have Bake Sale The Cadette Girl Scout Troop 495 is having a bake sale on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 9 a.m. at Robison's Food Mart in Wonder Center to raise money for a troop trip to Chicago. There will be home baked bread, cookies, cakes, pies, etc. Deepest Sympathy • To the Robert Harper family who recently moved to Ft. Atkinson, Wis. Mr. Harper died of a heart attack Jan. 9 and wfcs buried in Park Forest. Wonder Lake Bridge Club Millie Kersten entertained the W. L. Bridge Club on Thursday evening, serving delicious refreshments. High scorers were the hostess and Bea Freeman and Harriet McCall had low score. Others playing were Greta Weisenberger, Martha Thompson, Simone Fuller, Mrs. Alburgo and Isabelle Bradford. The February party will be at the home of Harriet McCall. Christ the King News Repairs on the church are progressing very well since the fire of a few weeks ago. There is still much to be done but the walls and ceiling have been cleaned and are back to normal again. After a fire of this kind the smoke andi soot damage is very great. As previously announced - 'His Excellency Bishop Lane will administer the Sacrament of Confirmation on Monday evening, Jan. 27, at 7.30 p.m. On Jan. 26 both the Confirmation class and the first Communion class will have catechism until 12 noon. Be sure to send a sandwich or something with the children for recess period. Confessions for the Confirmation class will be Saturday, Jan. 25, at 4 p.m. On Sunday, Jan. 26, all the Confirmation class will make its Communion at the 9 a.m. Mass. On Monday, Jan. 27, the children will plan to be the church most of the day. Nativity Lutheran Church News The Luther League will meet next Sunday at 7 p.m. Lynne Schultz will lead the devotions. Edwin Malenius will present the topic. Bernice Bjork will direct the recreation and Penelope Ullman will have charge of the refreshments. This meeting will also be the deadline for articles to appear in the next issue of "Crossroads." Tuesday at 8 p.m. the Cub Scout Pack 145 will meet in 1 he social hall. On Wednesday morning 9:30 a.m. the leaders of the Kachina Girl Scout Neighborhood meeting in the social hall. Kiwanis Club News President Floyd Leigh and Jim Robison were missing from the Jan. 13 meeting because they were bit by the flu bug. On Saturday, Jan. 11, a group of sixteen Wonder Lake Kiwanians and their wives attended the Installation of the 1964 officers of the McHenry Kiwanis Club. The Bradleys are happy to be -here and we are all happy to have them as new neighbors. A combination "Welcome to Wonder Lake and Baby Shower" was given in honor of the Bradleys last Saturday night at the home of Mary Koluder at 4303 E. Wonder Lake Drive. Hostesses were Mary Koluder and Kate and Betty Vacula. The Bradleys are from Chicago and are expecting a new junior citizen sometime between now and Valentine's Day. Lori Vacula Home For Mid-Term Vacation Lori Vacula, daughter of Mrs. Stephen Vacula, is home for 2 weejes vacation from Chicago where she studies law at Loyola university. Richard Monhardt, who served three years in Germany in the Army Engineering Corps, returned home on New Years Day. He arrived in New York by boat and drove his car home which he had purchased in Germany. Square Dance Club The club had a party in t.he public school, Tuesday evening, Jan. 14. This was for the six couples who are graduating. The children's dance club met on Friday evening, Jan. 17 at the school. Added Enrollment Seven new pupils have enrolled in the Spring Grove School. They are from families who have moved in this vicinity recently. Garden Club Meets Members of the Fox Lake Garden Club held their first meeting of the year on Jan. 9 at the United Church of Christ. The program was given by Mrs. Ebba Nielsen. A movie was shown on her 1963 Easter trip of Jerusalem. Dolls, booklets and pamphlets were on display for members to view. Entertains A pleasant evening was spent in the home of Sah Hanssen by Mrs. Frank May, Mrs. Tom McNally, Mrs. Art Kattner and Mrs. Paul Weber on Thursday, Jan. 9. Meetings Rev. Ice Fishing Derby Congratulations go to local boy. Connie Block, who came home with three prizes from Channel Lake ice fishing derby. First' prize for "oddist" fish. The members Were surprised and happy to see- her as it isn't always possible for Ing to get in to join the girls. Friday morning Daisy Smith will be entertaining ten ladies who are gathering to make plans for the* luncheon to be held on Feb. 14. For those who may have wondered what happened to the tree burning. The Sunday picked fqr the event was so wlindy that al thought it best not to set any nres so if conditions are favorable this weekend they will be burned.
