C®0KS CORNER By Marie Schaettgen Here is a "one-dish" main course that you might like to serve during Lent. It combines noodles with fish in a rather unusual way. Noodle Ring With Fish % cup melted butter--3 cups cooked noodles--3 eggs, separated. . Stir butter into freshly cooked noodles. Add well-beaten egg yolks, and fold in stiffly beaten whites. Pour into a ring mold, set in a pan of hot water, and bake in moderate (350) oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until knife blade comes out clean when thrust into noodles. Unmold on hot platter, and fill center with any creamed fish. Buttered peas and carrots may be arranged around on platter. Serve with a green salad. CARD OF THANKS I wish to thank everyone for their prayers, visits, cards, flowers and many kind deeds during my recent illness. Your thoughtfulness will always be remembered. Peter M. Congressman Asks For New Lake County Mint Congressman Robert McClory (R, 111.) has introduced a bill in the U.S. House of Representatives requesting the Secretary of the Treasury to establish a new United States Mint in Lake county. 111. In a speech on the floor of the House in support of the bill, the Illinois congressman called attention to the critical coin shorts age resulting from the expansion of coin-operated vending machines, state sales taxes (usually paid in coins), increased interest in coin collecting, and the requirement for increased inventories of coins by merchants. It is understood that leading financial and business interests in Illinois will support the bill offered by Congressman McClory. Give yourself a LOVELY LIFT TO START THE DAY. cThe night before, when you lake your bath or shower, apply anti-perspifant. Then in the morning, spray cologne in underarm area. Won't bother your anti-perspirant -- warmth diffuses fragrance around you all day long. , With just one pattern you can make an amazing variety of CLOTHES FOR YOUR LITTLE GIRL. Find a style becoming to her, and just vary the details! Change the shape and trim of the collar. Add a contrasting'instead of matching belt. Make the skirt a print with top of white pique trimmed with the print. If it's a two-piecer, make one complete outfit in a solid color -- another in a plaW or print that picks up the solid color. Presto--4 outfits! Those steel wooUsoap pads are great for REMOVING BLACK STREAKS from tile or linoleum floors. Such as heel marks, black stains from metal table or chairs, any ol' scuffs-- watch 'em all vanish when rubbed with that lil soap pad! Don't get frustrated BUYING A NEW CHAIR. These do's and don'ts are sure to help you: DO ask questions and get answers -- as to fabrics, durability, construction. DO try to take along swatches of rugs, furniture, wall colors. DO get a chair to complement your other furniture, and in proportion to size of your room. DON'T buy chair that's too soft, or hard to get out of--firm support helps prevent aching backs.DON'T trap yourself with low-arm or low-back chairs. DONT get chair with seat so high or low you can't lean back comfortably. Ever had a frantic moment with a GREASE FIRE IN THE SKILLET or broiler? I've found common baking soda to be a great little home extinguisher. Just throw soda freely on flames. Since you cook with baking soda anyway, food isn't harmed--you just rinse soda away and continue cooking! PERK UP WILTED CELERY by rolling in brown paper with towel wrapped around it. Leave in cool, dark place until about hour before using. Then place celery in cold water until ready to serve. Watch for Maggie every week! m®. RECOVER STOLEN CAR A car belonging to Mrs. Robert Armstrong of Wonder Lake was stolen from in front of McHenry Recreation on^ VEHICLE REGISTRATIONS Rosemary Vitacca, 4 years old, has been named the McHenry County Easter Seal Child for 1964. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Vitacca of Lake-inthe- Hills. Rosemary is shown walking down the stair equip, ment unaided at Easter Seal Therapy center. 6 ... • ' ' V. Rosemary Vitacca of Lakein- the-Hills is one of the mtffly youngsters being treated at the Easter Seal Physical Therapy center, sponsored by the McHenry County Chapter of the Illinois Association for the Crippled at Woodstock. Rosemary began treatment in February, 1962, at the age of 2. At that time she could not sit alone and was poorly coordinated. Gradual improvement through exercises, games and playing with toys has been noted. She can now sit alone and tries to keep up with her sister who takes dancing lessons -- that is her greatest hope. She now walks with some support but not too well as yet. She can use her hands but needs more strength in her arms as well as her hands. She is a victim of cerebral palsy. It is for children like Rosemary and those with other crippling diseases, including adults, that the money contributed through the Easter Seal campaign is used. For many years cerebral palsy, neuro muscular disease and strokes were regarded as hopeless but today very few are regarded as such, due to the new techniques being developed and methods of self help. Without contributions there could be no operative budget and treatments necessarily would have to cease. Each year the patient load increases and more funds are necessary to meet the demands. The campaign for funds is now in progress and contributions returned at once will be appreciated. evening last week and reported missing to the sheriff's office.
