IBS McHBwBY pLiiiif£>£<ti<E8 Thm^ifi Mire 7.1964B SunnyBids Eiiaies ' BRIEF RESIDENTS ON PROPOSED ROAD PAVING PROJECT Fran Olseri -- 885-5740 Good news. Paved roads should be a-comin! At the special meeting on April 30 at the Johnsburg school, the Mc- Heriry Board of Local Improvement gave a briefing on the particulars involved in the proposed paving of the roads of Sunnyside Estates, and answered questions concerning these. The singular objection, brought forth by a resident of Mayfair Drive, will be considered by that board next week, and depending on their decision as to the^validity and weight of this objection, progress will then be determined. If all proceeds at optimum pace, work on the roads would begin mid^August at the earliest; the work estimated to require 45 days, all conditions being favorable. Farley Inflation A 23" boy-type bundle weighing a boy-size 9 lbs. 12 oz. arrived at St. Theresa's hospital in Waukegan around noon on April 26, resulting in one inflated chest for tired but happy Pappa Jim Farley, and one deflated middle for tired but happy Mamma Marge Farley. John Thomas Farley arrived with a thick full head of black hair which is expected to fall out eventually and come back in platinum, as the Farley trait has been for Jim, Mary, Kathy, Helen and Stevie. It was a long, anxious wait for John Thomas: not only was he a bit overdue, but when Marge entered the hospital at midnight Friday, thinking the birth was but minutes away, J. T. got lazy and relaxed, holding the entire family in nervous suspense for another day and a half. Mother and son are both home now, doing well. Quote by Mother, "He's so cute and sweet, I can't leave him alone." Dad and all the brothers and sisters share that judgment, so it looks like you're in for the life of Riley--or better--, Mr. John Thomas Farley. division to equal the glow of the setting sun on the 9th! Pray it doesn't rain!.^ Cancer Crusaders Karen Schneider, chairman of this year's cancer drive of this past month, expresses her deep appreciation to Delores Hanahan, Mary Ellen Wickman, Joanne Eichhorn, Claudia Garn, and aspecially to Patty Voight, Cathy Palmer, and Candy Kobus (who did double duty to cover the areas for which no other volunteers could be recruited) for their time and trouble in canvassing and to all who contributed to this cause., And thanks anyway to Mary Farley who was to have helped but was held indoors by funny little red polka dots all over her little self. A hearty round of applause for Karen Schneider who handled all the outlying areas of McHenry for this drive. An enormous job in such a wide area. Now here is the warmest brand of genuine generosity: four year old Danny Sschneider had watched his mother going about her money matters for thfe cancer drive, and up he saunters to her with a hand full of seven pennies he had been saving to buy gum balls on their weekly shopping trip and said, "Here, Mommie, give this for the sick people." necessitated a side trip to shop for dry trousers for him! So who would want a perfect day? Don't answer that, anyone. Pianists Perform Congratulations to Terri Radtke, Jimmy Fuqua, and the Fail girls, Melody, Merily, and Elaine, for their fine performances at the recital of Sister Oelestia's music pupils, at the Johnsburg comunity hall on April 29. And poor little Lori Radtke experienced more of her recent run of misfortune: she was ill so wasn't able to perform. Clean Up, Burn Down May 9, this Saturday, is the big overhaul. We all want our Estates to appear worthy of its lovely name, so lend a hand in the burning and clearing of the empty lots. The more hands on the 0 job, the quicker the task will be completed. Gene Urbanski would appreciate your call (385-6267) to volunteer your services or clear up any questions you may have. The annual pick-up of large items and extra cast-offs will be on the 9th also. HOWEVER -- since the pick-up will begin at 6 a.m. that day, please put these items out on Friday night. Have the trash in containers, if feasible. Three items which will not be picked up: trees, burnable items such as tree limbs, and broken concrete. Here's to gleam of the sub- Church Cleaned The officers of the Sodality were most pleased with the donations of food and finances, but the reduced number of workers to do the actual cleaning of St. John's church, put an extra burden on each of them. The turn-out of help was better last year, so let's insure that it will be better next year. In spite of the rainy weather, every effort was made to have the church immaculate for First Comunion Sunday. Field Trip The Hinsdale Health Museum was the destination of two classes from Johnsburg school on April 22. The combined third and fourth grade class of Mrs. Mary Rose, and the fourth grade class of Mrs. Nancy Tibbitts boarded the chartered bus at 9 a.m. for what proved to be a most enlightening and interesting day. Movies, puppet show, and Valeda (the $10,000.00 glass and plastic female form that lectures to the visitors on anatomy and physiology) provided the students with a sound knowledge of the normal healthy body. The museum is one of four health museums in the U.S., and was established in 1958 by the Kettering family foundation. There is no admission charge and it is opened daily 9-5 and on Sundays from 1-5. (Closed on holidays) An ideal spot for a day's outing for any family. The group had a picnic lunch at a forest preserve in Hinsdale, where one over-active male student inadvertently got a dunking in the river, which Retreat and Recreation Mike Bott, Mike Anderson, and other members of the Dominic Savio Club attended a weekend retreat, at the Divine Word Seminary in East Troy, Wis. on the 24th-26th. After the spiritual exercise came the physical exercise in the form of basketball and baseball and they also attended the bazaar which* was being held at the seminary that weekend. Their anxious anticipation of the next retreat is an excellent indorsement of the success of this one. Bowling Banquet Karen Schneider ran off with a large load of'prizes at her bowling group's banquet on April 28. She won a total of $15.38 for: bowling third high in the team series, third high team game, and forty-five games won for the year. Her team came in fourth. This group bowls on Thursday morning from 9-11:30. Baby sitting in the bowling alley nursery is included in the flat fee, so anyone interested in joining this group next season, contact Karen at 385-4977. Shocking' Class Hank Garn is teaching the electrical class at the 4-H club, which by the way, is the largest of all the classes. Hmmmm . . . Wife,Claudia is pleased with her husband's latest addition to his schedule, but wonders at the things he keeps putting in the chair he insists she sit in. The S-H Club . . were the weekend guests of the Jerry Olsens: Harry, Harriet, and little Howie Morrison from LaFayette, Ind. The Morrisons were neighbors of the Olsens in Boston, which is their native territory, and after a' year in Europe, they have been situated in the Mid-West, which was nearly as foreign to them as the Switzerland they had just left. Arriving an hour early Friday afternoon because of the time difference, that neither party had previously considt.- red, they found their hostess still in the preparation stages: washing the living room win- i dows!! The O'Connells of Elk Grove joined the group that evening ILr hilarity and a hootenany, which continued, none too quietly, until 3 a.m. Alter recuperating from the previous night, the Morrisons and Oi ens had dinner and enjoyed 1 lie fabulous Jazz in the living room of a key club 1hatis staged by Bunnies. Aftei Sunday dinner by their excellent '(Ho Ho Ho) hostess, the families had to again nid ado-- but only til mid-July when the Olsens will visit the Morrisons. Treat or Treatment? The Haningers recently spent a week at their daughter's in Hines, taking care of their four grandchildren while the Fruins went to Texas, which they judge as a nice place to visit, but wouldn't want to live there: 9" hale stones, and storms of every variety are things they can do without, Joan reports that flowers are still being left at the sight of President Kennedy's assassination. While in Hines, the Haningers and their grandchildren visited Mrs. Haninger's sister in Cicero. Candle Capers Dorothy Stoffel celebrated her birthday at her mother's home in North Chicago where ! "Just everything I needed," Dorothy said. Cake and ice cream with the family constituted, Michael Bott's birthday because the trip to the retreat and a whole new wardrobe for the occasion was his gift. Jeffy Radtke received lots, of clothes and Sammy for his birthday. Who is Sammy? A turtle. And if there's anything the Radtke household needs, it's a pet! But Jeffy is so very pleased and sits and stares at his pet by the hour. (Ann, in this case is hour synonymous with minute?) Saturday night friends from Chicago, the Iversons, brought him a hooded sweat shirt with sport cars all over: very apropos.. Daddy really likes that. Grandma Radtke also was on hand for the cake and ice cream that night. The following day Aunt Alice brought him a baseball suit. His great-aunt, uncle and cousins also dropped in to complete the big weekend. Last week, in relating Agnes Bettin's lovely birthday, her extraordinary gift was overlooked: a luminous rosary from Rome given her by her daughtei\ She is so thrilled to own it. Anniversary Activities Bud and Carol Kennebeck celebrated their ninth anniversary on Saturday by taking the two older children out to dinner. There the festivities ended and they attended thdwake of Bud's first cousin who was killed in a plane crash. Dog Doinn' No doubt everyone read the article in last, week's Plaindealer about the rabid skunk found in McHenry and the suspicion that there are others about. No further case is needed to stress the necessity of rabies shots for all dogs. A veterinarian has been contacted who will come into the subdivision for a mass inoculation of the local dogs, if there are enough interested parties. Please contact Ann Radtke if your dog is due for his annual shot, so that this program can be set up--preferably as an annual event. Happy Birthday Today to Martin Williams. Tomorrow to Bud Kenne beck, Wally Roy, and to nine year old Kenny Bott. On the 10th to Jack Kelso, Don Gerstein, and six year old Karen Hanahan. On the 13th to three year old Linda Radtke. Many happy returns of the day. Yes, Of Our Own Upon telling a Chicago cousin that they were now living in Sunnyside Estates, the impressed relative asked the Haningers, "Oh, are you the caretakers?"
