Road Report Next step toward road paving is having the official reports presented before the county judge to get an o.k. on the bonding. If all goes well, paving should begin around Sept. 1, if not a little sooner. Retnlnder Regular monthly meeting of the Blessed Virgin sodality is this Tuesday, June 9, in the Johnshurg Community Club at 8 p^tti. Congratulations . . . . t o B i l l Davis our n e i g h borhood newsboy, who won a trip to Washington for securing subscriptions to an area newspaper. He and the twenty- nine other winners and their two adult chaperons had a marvelous four day adventure in the Capitol City, touring the white house, Mount Vernon, the FBI, Lincoln Memorial, Smithsonian Institute President Kennedy's grave, and just having a grand time being together for this memorable journey. The hotel they stayed in was fine, but having colored TV sets in their rooms was the most. We're very happy for you, Bill. Good work well rewarded. • Welcome . . . t o L o i s A n d e r s o n ' s p a r ents, Mr. and Mrs. George Quill, who arrived May 22 to stay at the Anderson home during Mrs. Quill's convalescence. Although the care at St. Ann's hospital was satisfactory, loving care from one's kin carries an added plus. We all wish you a speedy recovery, Mrs. Quill, and above all enjoy your stay here in the lovely country. Coffee Gloria Von Oepen was hostess for a coffee klatch held at her home on the morning of May 26 to introduce her new neighbor, Vi Williams, to a few of the other neighbors: Delores Gerstein, June Voight, find Florence Kanter. Over cake and coffee the women became acquainted and had a grand gab-fest. The Willjamses recently purchased the Scheibe home on Oakleaf, and will be introduced through the column soon. Fire Bug Several fires have been started in the area colloquially known as "The Forest" (those wooded empty lots on the North side of Oakleaf) by a same few children. So far the fires have been able to be extinguished by neighbors who have discovered the flames. SO FAR! Matches are not for children. Do your children play with matches or facsimile? Water Worries Did your faucets seem to be going dry on the early evening of May 25? Know why? Gremlins in medum-size blue jeans broke into the pump house, turned on the water, and left it running. That pump house is not a play house. Caution y o u r c h i l d r e n . T h e w a t e r company is prepared to take severe measures should such a prank recur. The Camp That Cookies Built . . . was dedicated on May 24. Mary Jane Lakowske was among the four scouts from Troop 88 and the whole of Troop 44 who were hostesses at the open house of the. Chapman Hills dedication, which was attended by approximately guests who viewed the new cilities where scouts demon strated typical activities peculiar to the various areas. The keys of the camp were presented to Mrs. Clifford Anderson, president , of Sybaquay Council, by the chairman of the campsite development committee. All cookies should crumble so well: 90 per cent of the land and 100 per cent of the improvements of this Girl Scout camp were financed by the proceeds from the annual cooki^ sale. Everyone take a bow. Cookies too. Home from Hospital Mrs. Hanlnger is glad to.be back home after her week long stay in Oak Park hospital! She is feeling much better and was happy to hear from everyone. Summer Scribe Beginning next week your reporter will be Chris Fail 385-4084. Keep her phone busy. We thank you in advance. Candle Capers Mary Kanter was the birthday girl of the 25th, so on the 23rd, Heather Siepman, Debbie Fuqua, Cindy Bott, Patty Anderson, and the rest of the Kanter Klan saw to it that it would be a happy seventh birthday. Lots of little girl fun. Mary Ellen Wickman blew out her candles at her mother's home, and received fill-ins for her wardrobe for gifts. Herman Mooha was present^ ed some lovin'-from-the-oven in the form of a luscious birthday cake by wife, Mary, and received cash in cards from his sons. Mark Davis was treated to delicacies by Mom and accompanied by Monica and Maureen on his birthday. Baseball is his game, and outfitting for it was his gift: a bat, ball, and mit. Ronnie Fuqua had a beautiful sunny day for his birthday on the 22nd, and there to share it with him were Robin Radtke, Jimmy Wickman, Cheryl Maule, Kim and Erik Olsen, and Sara and Mattie O'Brien. The usual party games amused the little ones, and then Mom Fran was amused when she observed the eight little heads moving "No" in unison to the "Not I" lines of the "Little Red Hen" which she read to them. Precious moment. Donna Noah is the proUd owner of a parakeet which she was allowed to buy with her birthday money. So far Mom is not objecting: the bird is not chattering--yet. Tammy Bieschke was indeed a very happy little five year old on the 26th. Mary Jane Lakowski, Debbie Von Obstfelder planned and executed an entire surprise birthday party for her, which was held at her home. Kathy Rychly, Ray Jensen, Maureen Davis, Pam De- Francisco, Karen Kennebeck and Gloria Gowin were the guests and Mom Alice was the honored one, beaming with appreciation of the thoughtfulness of these two pre-teens who were responsible for all this, including a birthday cake baked by Debbie herself. And yet another thrill was in store for Tammy: a two-wheeler from Mommy and Daddy. Lucky girl. Family illness prevented a big party for 3-year-old Ricky Voight, but with just his immediate family present, th&t's a party size crowd in Itself, and it suited him fine. Among his gifts was a stuffed dog which Diane bought from her fourth grade teacher, with her own money: true sisterly love. He was a very happy little boy. How considerate of Jerry Zeiger's fraternity to throw their annual May dance on his birthday. Can't beat that for celebrating. 'Specially when the monetary gifts financed the occasion! Coming artd Going . . . involves from house to garden for most residents these lovely planting and planning days. And popping in from Detroit last week to take care of doing some exterior painting on their Sunnyside home, were the Bill Grists--or more accurately, Bill Grist painted while Bernadine dropped in to say hello to several of us old neighbors! Last Sunday a surprised Liltda Schopp was showered by eighty persons at the VFW Hall in Des Plaines where her wedding reception will be held. This was also a miscellaneous shower and Ken reports that she got so many beautiful things that all she needs is a home to put them in.
