There were five graduates marching onto the stage. Tiiey were; Candace Claire Fossum, Linda Gail Gelvin, Deborah Marie Harvey, Trudy Ann Oonk and Gordon Bauer. F|ev. Bruce Breneman gave the invocation, which was very inspiring. Then the graduates and the seventh graders sang "I like it Here" and "My Task", under the direction of their music director, Mrs. Gloria Ritt. The principal Arthur Smeijkal, gave a few comments followed by Richard L. Tazewell, County Superintendent of Schools. Clayton Bruce, president of the school board, thpn presented the diplomas to our five graduates, followed by the presentation of the Legion Awards by James Kinzie and associate from the American Legion Post 1169, to Miss Trudy Oonk. Then, "Follow The Gleam" and "Halls Of Ivy" were sung by ths grads and seventh graders. Rev. Breneman gave the Benediction followed by the recessional of the grads. There were cake, coffee and punch served by the seventh grad mothers assisted by the seventh graders. Ushers for the evening were; Kathern Holcomb, Debra Betts, Robert Brennan and Robert Klapperich. Dolores White was responsible for the beautiful flower arrangements along with baskets made by Martha Betts and Marion Winters. Mrs. White also fixed the girls hair styles for such a happy occasion. The seventh grade mothers helped in getting the tables ready for the evening. They were; Georgia Bauer, Dolores White, Martha Betts, Eunice Andreas, Clara Klapperich, Mae Holcomb, Dorothy Betts, Dorothy Aissen and Lor Brennan. Graduate At McHenry High Thre young people graduated from McHenry high this past week. Donna, daughter of the Walt Lows, Sandy, daughter of the William Hoffmans, and Don, son of the John Klapperichs. Mr. and Mrs. John Klapperich entertained thirty-six people for dinner, held in the Ringwood church basement. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Pearson, Jim Pearson, Mr. and Mrs. Sig Jacobsen, Rev. and Mrs. Bruce Breneman and family, Mr, and Mrs. Bob Brennan and family, as well as guests from McHenry, Johnsburg, Wisconsin and Iowa were present. Sr. M.Y.F. Report What a small group of M.Y.Fers we ended up with Sunday night. We started planing our summer meetings. Continuing with a council meeting next Saturday at Pistakee from attention. The canoe trip will 2:30 until 5 p.m. Canoe people start Monday morning, August 17, and return Friday, August 28. Any interested persons may contact Rev. Breneman. Sunday, June 14, at 3 p.m. thfere will be a meeting at the church of the pastors and M.Y^F. officers of several neighboring churches. The purpose of this meeting is planning for combined programs and worship services. Attention MYFers: We need everyone present next Sunday night. Come and join the fun. Sharon Baker, reporter Wieser-Itingwood Softball Team Wins With our pitcher, Butch Leonard, allowing only one hit, and with (he rest of the boys hitting, Ringwood's 12" Softball team won its first game of the season by a score of 12 to 3 last Thursday evening. They defeated Twin Lake's Wonderbar team. The first game of the ball season was scheduled to be played on Tuesday, but due to the rain, had to be cancelled. There are eight teams composed for the 12" Softball League with all games played at the Genoa City, Wis., diamond. Game time is at 7:30 p.m. for the first game, and approximately 9:30 for the second. Genoa City Pharmacy, Greenwood, Harvard Jets, Hebron, Modine, Spring Grove, Twin Lakes Wonderbar and the Ringwood boys are the teams. Future games are: June 15, first game between Hebron and Ringwood, and Ringwood against Spring Grove on Wednesday, June 17. I'll try to keep you posted as to the results and the coming games. Or you can see a schedule at the local Garage. Our boys welcome all spectators, so come on up. Just a short reminder, there is a curfew of 10 p.m. for horn blow-^ ing. Jim Pearson Receives Degree Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Pearson attended the sixty-fifth annual commencement of Northern Illinois Uhiversity at DeKalb on Saturday where they saw their son, James, receive his Degree of Master of Fine Arts. Rev. McFarland Ordained In Methodist Church On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. John F. McFarland, Margey and Jim, attended the Northwest Indiana Canference of The Methodist church where Rev. John R. McFarland of Cedar /Lake, Ind., was ordained an Elder in the Methodist church by Bishop C. Raines. John R. graduated from Garrett Theological Seminary in Evanston on June 5. Mr. and Mrs. John F. McFarland, Margey and Jim, were house guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Redinbo on Saturday and Sunday for the occasion. Commencement At Rosary College Mrs. John Hogan and Mrs. Bernard Peschke attended the tea reception held for relatives at Rosary College in River Forest last Friday in honor of their daughter-in-law and daughter, respectively, Mrs. John C. Hogan. Mrs. Ann Peschke Hogan was one of a large group to receive her diploma on commencement exercises on Saturday, in a very impressive ceremony. Mrs. Shepard Attends Commencement Mrs. Ruby Shepard attended the graduation exercises in DeKalb on Saturday where her grandson, David Weigle, received his diploma. Mrs. Shepard spent Friday evening and night in the home of her daughter and famly, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Ainger, in Hebron and after all attended the graduation, attended a picnic dinner following exercises at the home of Mr. and Mrs. David Weigle at DeKalb. Attend Johnson Golden Wedding Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Pearson attended the golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. George H. Johnson, held at the McHenry Country Club on Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Ruby Shepard also attended the open house for the golden wedding. Dinner For Teachers Of Over Ten Years Mrs. Mary Butler and Mrs. Arline Pearson attended a dinner in Wilmot, Wis., Wednesday evening. The party was attended by nineteen teachers who have taught ten years or longer in District 15, McHenry. Two of their members, Mrs. Lenore Cooley and Mrs. Ruth Mead, were honored as they retired from teaching this year. Card Club Mrs. Viola Low was the hostess for the card club on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Flora Carr took high for the day with Miss Mae Wiedrich taking low. Birthday Supper At Oxtoby Home June Oxtoby was honored at a supper in her home on June 7, for her birthday. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Oxtoby of Spring Grove, Mr. and Mrs. Magnus Nelson and Mrs. Charles Pearson of Crystal Lake, Mr. and Mrs. William McCabe of Pistakee Bay and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Butler and family of McHenry. Back To Work After Surgery June Oxtoby has rq turned back to her job in our local post office after having surgery recently. She has recovered very nicely, and I'm sure everybody is happy to see her up and back at her job. ^ Here *N» There Mr. and Mrs. Mike Hogan spent the weekend visiting Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sonnemaker and family in Detroit, Mich. They returned home on Monday, bringing little Jeff Sonnemaker with them. Jeff will be spending some time with his grandparents, %r. and Mrs. John Hogan. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Oxtoby of Spring Grove visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Oxtoby on Thursday evening. On Monday afternoon, Mrs. Bob Brennan and daughter, Linda, visited in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schmitt, in McHenry. Frank Kempfer and Peter Himmel spent from Saturday until Tuesday visiting at Mercer, Wis. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Howe, Maude Smith and Mable O - Hara of Crystal Lake called on the L. E. Hawleys on Thursday evening. Miss Jane Lee Leonard of Lake Geneva, Wis., spent the weekend in the Wiedrich-Wegener home. Mrs. John Hogan, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Ackerman and family spent the past weekend at Colby, Wis., where they attended a reunion of the Ackerman family. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Swanson from Wonder Lake and Mrs. L. E. Hawley enjoyed an anniversary dinner in honor of the Hawleys, in Lake Geneva on Thursday. Pat Hogan is spending some time with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Hogan, from her duties at O'Hare airport Mrs. Joe Schmitt of McHenry was a Thursday afternoon caller in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Brennan. ' Loren Harrison was a supper guest on Wednesday evening to the Bob Brennan home. On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hogan of Elgin were visitors in the John Hogan home. I think that's about all for another week. There were quite a few graduations for our Ringwood youth and adults as well. Congratulations to all for a job well done. PISTAKEE TERRACE JOYCE TOEPPER HONOR MARIAN GRADUATE AT FAMILY PARTY Mike Mecko graduated ttorn Marian Central high school on Sunday, May 31, Sunday guests at the Mecko home in honor of the occasion were his uncle, A1 Mecko, and family, Chicago, cousins, Arlene Pierhoffer and two children, A1 Mecko, Jr., and wife, Rita, Chicago, and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Blanchard and three daughters, Louisville, Ky. Early Monday morning Mike and a friend took off for a two week fishing expedition in Wisconsin. Five Terrace children were among the eighth grade graduating class from Johnsburg public school on Wednesday evening. They are Linda Hawkins, Kathi Parker, Steve Stahlman, Leiand Anderson and William Anderson. Linda Hawkins gave one of the students speeches, "Attitude: The Ingredient For A Successful Life." Steve Stahlman was the class Vice-President and made a good showing in all his sports participation. Out of town visitors for the graduation included Linda's aunt, Bonnie Hawkins, and K a t h i' s grandmother, Mrs. Charles Schwebke, who arrived by train from Chicago on Wednesday and returned to her home on Thursday. Steve was honored with a small celebration at his home following the event with several neighbors in attendance. Johnsburg Announces Final Honor Roll With the completion of the school year the students, five from the eighth grade and five from the seventh grade, who were able to maintain the highest grades for the entire year figured on the average have been announced. The following ten boys and girls have permanent possession of their honor roll pins: eighth grade top honors went to Marge Ruth, Linda Hawkins, John Havlik, Charlotte Turner, and Kathi Parker; Seventh grade honors begin with Bonnie MacGregor, Denise Kock, Sue Mols, Jim Vyduna and Elain Fail. Congratulation^.. 885-8044 Terrace Tidings Jerry, Bob, and Mary Dicks spent a busy day in Chicago on Saturday, Memorial Day, attending the first Communion of Bob's Godchild, David Matt, in the morning and the confirmation of David in the afternoon. At the same confirmation ceremony Jerry was sponsor for another child, Linda MacManman, as she was confirmed into the church. ] The Joe Benoche family traveled across the lot to the Louis Perschke home for an enjoyable weekend. With the coming of summer more will be seen of our summer residents. The Bill Kerns spent "the holiday in Wheaton with son, Richard, and family. Overnight guests at the Tom Merhaut home from Saturday till Monday were Tom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Merhaut, Oaklawn. Also visiting at the Merhaut home over Saturday night was Joe Fiala, Chicago. The Don Zamastil family attended a family gathering in Addison on Memorial Day in honor of Barb's niece, Paula's birthday. It was also a day of good-byes for Barb's sister and family, Mary Anna and Fred Casper left the following Monday for New York where Fred had been transferred a couple months before. Arriving Thursday evening and staying until Sunday afternoon at the Don Hawkins home were Pat and Dave Hawkins and Donnie, and A1 Kovak, Detroit, Mich., along with Judy and Hank Hruza and son, Russell, Philadelphia, Penn., and friends from St. Louis. Friday overnight guests at the Mickey Ferrell home were his family, Walter and Emily Ferrell, Chicago. Jimmy and Steven Phillips left Memorial Day weekend accompanying Harriet's mother, Mr. and Mrs. Art Rohar on a two week tour of the Dakotas, Colorado, etc. As is customary with the Sabaj family, Mitch's entire clan of brothers and sisters and their families took the holiday as an opportunity to get together, this time at the Sabaj home in the Terrace. Also joining the gathering was Bonnie's mom, Louise Steimel, V who Stayed t! at the Jerry Connerty home were Tom and Diane Simonek and Doris and Flo Stasszak and their families. Weekend guests at the Russell Parkers were Dorothy and Jack Urbin and family. Pistakee Highlands, for a Saturday back yard supper and Shirley Rowe and children, McHenry, dropped in Sunday afternoon for a brief visit. The Len Toepperjg enjoyed a holiday excursion to Crystal Lake on Saturday to visit the Bob Henry family. The Don Zamastil family drove to Whitewater, Wis., on Sunday for a day of fishing and sightseeing. Joyce Toepper and sons spent Thursday at Beloit, Wis., helping her nephew, Jim Lyons, celebrate his eleventh birthday. Janice Bush completed her exams and her first year at the University of Illinois and was home for the summer the Thursday preceding Memorial Day. Her sister, Karen, finished up her third year at the Illinois State Normal, Bloomington, and arrived home on the Tuesday after the holiday. Our get-well wishes to Anthony Kurowski, Jr., who spent the holidays in > the McHenry hospital following a freak accident. Anthony found an empty (?) cartrdge in his play on Friday afternoon and decided to make a rocket. He stuck matchheads in it, planted it into the ground and boom! It exploded and hit him in the forehead causing a bad gash which had to be stitched inside before stitching it closed, as well as a1 concussion. He will be taking it easy for sometime. Birthday Greeting* Many happy returns of the day to the following birthday celebrants this coming week: Judy Vyduna, June 13, a big three years old, and a 14th birthday to Kathi Parker on June 14.
