Details of Ronee's victory are in another section of the paper so there is no need to > gepeat them here. However, "$ne Jlhing impressed me even nrore-than the girls on the stage last Saturday night. I wish I could- have had a camera with and had taken pictures of 'faces of the parents as each girl-stepped up to her place in the limelight. Their eyes shone and their faces mirrored the love and pride each one teit as their daughter's name was called. , The girls were all lovely, of course--but to me the obvious pride in the eyes of the parents was even more beautiful to see. ficial activities for the duration of the fair. I talked to men from both the power company and the telephone company "and they both say the same thing: some people don't want the branches trimmed regardless of the inconvenience of power shortage or phone trouble. Shouldn't we co-operate with our utilities companies to a greater extent for1 tfurown convenience?" Wedding Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cannon, Jr., will celebrate their twentyfourth anniversary on Friday, Aug. 9. Congratulations. Annual Meeting Wonder Woods will have their Annual meeting on Beach No. 1 on Sunday, Aug. 9, at 1 p.m., followed by their annual picnic for property owners and residents and their immediate families. They are going for the express purpose of meeting daughter, Pamela, who is reluming from a summer in Europe. They also plan to visit the fair while they are there. Pam will arrive in New York on the 8th--which is today. Her letters home have been most enthusiastic. Shells one of a group of student^Avho left in June to visit Europe and to study in France. The girls visited France, Switzerland,-England, Italy, and many other places during their stay. Pam made a trip to Rome which was quite a thrill for her. When she gets back she will have enough material to keep her talking for many months to come. And I'm sure she will find many listeners too. Leaves Hospital Allan Armstrong, who has been in Bethesda hospital in Chicago, returned to his home at 4960 Marine Drive in Chicago last Thursday. He is feeling much better after his three weeks in the hospital. Friends may send cards to his home address. Kiwanis News - July. 21th. Meeting The news that Millie was serving chicken must have leaked out someway because we had a full house with the exception of Guy White, who incidentally, won the Battle Axe Award. President Floyd was in a gay mood and asked for a song-fest. The volume was good (and loud), the static bad, and the enthusiasm high. At the Play Day Caucus, Division 20 nominated Jess Mudget for Lt. Governor. Our speaker was in extra good form. Art Lau presented a summary of the Kiwanis International Convention at Los Angeles expanding the 1964 Kiwanis theme: "Freedom - a call to personal service". Over 18,000 attended. Husbands an$ guests are invited to attend. TOPS Party The local Wonder Lake TOPS Club had their regular contest party last night. This is the party where the gainers treat the losers. I went thru this explanation once before and I refuse to do it again. In addition to the regular party a surprise baby shower was held for one of the members. The guest of honor at the shower expects her baby the first part of October and to date has only gained ONE POUND. The whole group is very proud of their "stork member" but no more so than she is of herself. It can be done, girls, and this proves it! >Boy Scouts Attend Camp Lovvden Troop 145, Wonder Lake, was very well represented at the Area Boy Scout Camp site, Camp Lowden, in Oregop. He and Mrs. Doenecke travelled through the West and they both enjoyed being away for awhile. Rev. Bruce Breneman, pastor of the Methodist Church at Ringwood, served while the Doeneckes were away. P.T.A. The executive board of the Johnsburg School P.T.A. held a meeting on July 28 at the home of the Treasurer, Nancy Oehler. The new year book and program planning were the two main topics of the evening. Here and There Mark and Kirk VanZevern have returned home from camp where they spent two enjoyable weeks. Marilyn and Bob got a little lonely but overcame it by /going to plays and dining out. Dick Morley returned to work on July 23 after his two weeks vacation. One was spent in the Ozarks and the other at Wesley Woods at Williams Bay, Wis. The whole family enjoyed the family camp there. Each family had a large cabin, three hot meals a day and best of all no dishes. Also the fellowship of thirty-three other families. Kathy Mason is sporting a very lovely black e^e she received while swimming. It seems someone dove on top of her and in the process her eye and their knee connected. Jim and Joan Prove and their twins spent last weekend with the Masons. Jim and Tom are brothers. Good weather and happy times are wished for the Conways who have started their vacation. If this weather keeps up they will probably spend it in their own back yar<J in their pool. Lois Mason and kiddies, Kathy, Tom and Shirley, will spend a week at a lodge in Elkhart Lake. Wis. On July 31 the Morleys, Janquarts, Weicks and Dick's sister, Helen, and hubby Don enjoyed a fish fry and a game oi tiny links afterwards. Ellen and Ernie Straubharr and children, Ernie, Kurt, Robin and Ellyn, spent a few days visiting the Janquarts. Ellen and Jan are sisters. Martha Sanford and son, Bill, from Freeport,, are spending a few days with Tom and Lois Mason. Martha and Tom &re cousins. Last Wednesday,* Hazel Morley had the pleasure of the company of her Mom and Dick's Mom for the day. The boys enjoyed seeing both their grandmothers at the same time and in turn both grandmothers enjoyed getting out for the day. Wally Sielisch returned to work on Aug. 3. While he was home Kay and Wally enjoyed a trip back home to Cadillac, Mich., and wound up by relaxing the last few days around home, like cutting grass, pulling weeds and doing relaxing things like that. That's It for now friends. If you are scratching your heads and wondering why the column is so short and probably not the type of writing you are accustomed to, there's a good reason for it. Your former reporter stepped in for this week for Kay. The Morleys had a wonderful vacation. I know Kay and Wally did and I sincerely hope you'll do the same; Bye for now. i JAMES M. Before that the church had been simply a THE CHURCH FOR All... ALL FOR THE CHURCH The Church is the greatest factor on earth for the building of character and good citizenship. It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the church. They are: (1) For his own sake. (2) For his children's sake. (3) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the take of the church itself, which needs his moral and material support. Plan to go to church .regularly and read your Bible daily. familiar scene along the border of our lives. Suddenly it became our church. And there was that deep sense of partnership with God . . . full of promise . . . frought with challenge.
