COUNTY BIRD CLUB FAVORS FOREST PRESERVE The McHenry County Bird club unanimously adopted at its annual meeting a resolution in favor of passage of the McHenry County Forest Preserve referendum. The referendum, to be held Nov. 3, will ask whether or not a forest preserve district for McHenry county shall be established. It -was pointed out that it will be necessary to take steps to preserve open areas for recreation and conservation in McHenry county as a buffer against the rapidly expanding metropolitan Chicago area. The MgHpnry County Bird club established a forest preserve district committee consisting of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Birren, Mr.- and -Mrs. James Hecht and M. L. Yeagle as chairman. The officers elected for the C'Qming year were Mrs. K. V. Fiske, president; Mrs. William Carroll, Jr., secretary; Mrs. James Hecht, treasurer; Misses Alice and Leta Clark, program dO-chairwomen, and Mrs. Stanley Perry, publicity chairwoman. The meeting was held at 3&e Velsicol Research Farm irj -pural Hartland. L. Yeagle, and program chairwoman, Mrs. H. N. Birren, for a successful year off activity in which membership increased to sixty-five bird lovers. James P. Hecht. Hog Truck For Market Halted McHenry county was in the news last Thursday when about fifty members of the National Farmers Organization (NFO) prevented a farmer from taking a load of hogs to market. The action was described by County NFO Chairman John Wilson as part of a nation- wide effort to raise livestock prices and obtain greater bargaining power with meat processors. Ray Chamberlain of Marengo, driving a tractor-trailer loaded with hogs for marketing, was stopped at the Wenzel farm, on the Illinois side of State Line road on the Illinois and Wisconsin border. Chamberlain left his truck at the farm and was driven home, according to Wilson, who added that there was no violence. r Chambeciain said hls-firm had contracts to fulfill and reportedly plans to investigate the legality of last Thursday's action. • There is a drive on the part of all NFO members to hold back livestock from the market in twenty-three states in an effort to boost prices. | CROSSWORD By A.
