She cannot divulge her prize winning recipe until the contest is over but you can bet it's something extra special scrumptous. Miss Blomgren will become the bride of Kenny Sawdo of Fountain Lane on Sept. 26. The shower was given by Joanne Olsen of Milwaukee, who will be Susan's maid of honor and was held at Joanne's home in Milwaukee. Attending from this area was Kenny's mother, Mrs. Lee Sawdo, who journeyed up there with her sister, Matilda Wandel of Milwaukee. Matilda had spent the previous week visiting with Mrs. Sawdo at her home on Fountain Lane. Other guests were Susan's mother who traveled from her home in Columbus, Ohio, to attend the shower, and the members of her wedding party and close friends. Susan received many lovely gifts which will be put to good .use in her forthcoming marriage. Goods New From The Little League The McCullom Lake Little League All Stars finished the season off with a bang and made the community pretty proud of them after the way they got whipped the other week. In the final two games of the season our All Stars walloped the Wonder Lake All Stars with a score of 15 to 3 and in the return match between us and the Lakeland Park All Stars we got our revenge by beating them 14 to 13. It might have been by just one little run but when you're on the winning side one run is as good as a hundred. Congratulations to them!!! Little leagurers are also reminded to please turn in your uniforms to your team manager so he will have them for next year. o'Infs Strange But True You can find some pretty unusual pets in some homes but the one my in-laws, the George W. Batemans of Mundelein, brought back from their recent vacation in Arizona really takes the prize. It's a real lg honest-to-goodness monstrol tarantula spider. From foot to foot he measures a good five inches long and stands at least two inches high. He is positively the ugliest hairiest looking creature I've ever laid eyes on. But his owners seem to think the world of him and agree that he make a most delightful pet. The manner in which they acquired this "pet" was rather unique too. The tarantula was innocently strolling down an old Spanish trail in Arizona when my brothers-in-law, John and George, spotted him. They immediately stopped the car and before the tarantula could say "Jack Robinson" he was scooped up in a gym bag and carted off to Illinois. They have named the newest addition to their family "Goldwater" but the only resemblance to the tarantula and the presidential candidate lk that they both hail from Arizona. Other recent pets in the Senior Baseman houshold include a baby fox and a motherless baby racoon. And they wonder why they haven't had very much company lately!!! Last Minute Reminder Don't forget the Viscounts rummage sale which will be held Friday and Saturday, Aug. 28 and 29, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 3929 West Main Street in McHenry. Anyone wishing to donate something to this sale should either bring the item to the above mentioned address or contact Mrs. Nowell at 385-3034. Surprise Visit From Santa Onus Our 'cycling grandmother who has been beating a path from Lakewood Subdivision to East Lane to visit her grandchildren had a very unexi>ected visit from Santa (Tiaus last week. She had been hinting that her trusty old bicycle which had given her sixteen years of faithful service was on its last legs and should be turned out to pasture but what was presented her as a replacement was something she never dreamed about. Her husband told her to go and see what was in the garage and there was a brand new ultra-deluxe bicycle equipped with everything from soup to nuts. Special accessories included a spotlight, taillight, white wall tires, chrome fenders, two-tone pedals, and a special goody carrier to carry goodies to her grandchildren. Bet she'll really be burning up the roads now!! Resident Passes On Matthew M. Hernbrott of 5216 West Fountain Lane passed away early Friday morning, Aug. 21, as the result of a heart attack. Mr. Hernbrott had been a summer resident in the community for over eleven years and had been planning on moving out permanently in the near future. The family had just spent the two days before his untimely death out here at their residence and had been commenting to neighbors on how well he felt. Mr. Hernbrott is survived by his wife, Rose, two daughters, one son, and twelve grandchildren. Cystic Fibrosis Drive The annual Cystic Fibrosis Fund Drive will be conducted in our community from Sept. 1 to 15. Mrs. Don Parenti Mrs. John Klapperich, Mrs. Allen McKim, and other neighbors will be working for the fund drive and the people are asked to welcome them into their homes when they call for donations. As you know, this is a very worthy cause for Cystic Fibrosis is one of the most crippling diseases that strike children and your donation is very much needed to combat it. The Viscounts played "Because", "Sugar Blues", and other numbers in front of the reviewing stand. Their performance was outstanding as usual and the McHenry County group were beaming with pride when they were awarded a standing ovation. Also attending the Fair in the McHenry County group were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Miller of Marengo who are members of the McHenry American Legion Post. In Springfield the group met local resident William "Bill" Walters who traveled to the state capitol on the Cook County train. Bill rode back to Woodstock on the chartered bus with the group and was safely delivered to his "ever lovin" Gert soak and wet at 1:30 in the morning. How he got soak and wet remains a mystery. He says he ain't talking. Family Reunion - Mrs. Walter (Adelaide) Patzke held an impromptu family reunion in her home at 5109 West Fountain Lane on Wednesday, Aug. 19. It all began at breakfast that morning when Adelaide, and her guests, Harold and Muriel Patzke of Fort Meyers Beach, Fla., started reminiscing and decided to have a big family reunion. This was the first time Muriel, who is a local gal, had been back home since she moved to Florida and, needless to say, was quite anxious to see her relatives again. So Adelaide dashed into the garden, picked all the home grown vegetables for the feast, dashed back into the house, started cooking and baking like mad, and before you knew it plans for the reunion were in high gear. The' dinner menu consisted of fresh tomatoes, beets, lettuce and potatoes, baked meat loaf, homemade rolls, and brownies and angel food cake. And all these goodies were the real MfcCoy, no package mixes for them. Guests present at the reunion were Harold and Muriel Patzke of Fort Meyers Beach, Fla., Arthur and Gladys Patzke of Elgin, Richard and Janet Patzke of Grayslake and their children, Michelle and Lisa Beth, Sally (Patzke) and husband, A1 Thomas, of Fort Meyers Beach, Fla., and local residents Paul and Grace Patzke, Jack and Gert Patzke, Frances Patzke, Florence Antholz, Pearl Patzke and Jim and"Lona Patzke and their children, Sandy and Cheryl. Members of the Patzke family who were not present were Ralph and Andy Patzke of Champaign, and their two children, Karen and Jeff, Shirley Patzke Brockrogge and husband, Donald, who were vacationing with their children, Debra and Jim, and June Patzke Milinac and husband, John, who live in Hawaii with their two children while John is in the Marines. Three birthdays were celebrated at the reunion. Celebrants were Walter Patzke on Aug. 16, Paul Patzke on Aug. 20, and Ralph Patzke on Aug. 19. Since Ralph was not present his mother, Mrs. Pearl Patzke, called long distance to Champaign and everybody sang happy birthday to him over the telephone. Mrs. Adelaide Patzke said she didn't mind the fast and furious preparations for the impromptu celebration one little bit for it was all a labor of love. Congratulations Corner Anniversary greetings to Mr. and Mrs. Ken Loesch on their first wedding anniversary Aug. 31. Birthday greetings to Elmer Taylor who becomes 18 years of age on Aug. 27, to Karen Parkhurst who becomes old enough to vote on Aug. 28, and to Sandy Josserand who turns eighteen on Aug. 30. Congratulations also go to Frank Godina of LakewoOd Subdivision who will have spent fifty golden years on this earth as of Aug. 31. '\ Qmaitt-Quis 9To/t OA/omen1 by Maggi© You've probably thought that the only way to STOP FINGER SMUDGES AROUND LIGHT SWITCHES is to just not turn on lights. But there's a way to make the job much easier. Give the area a good cleaning and, then apply a good coat or two of fresh white shellac. Now fingermarks will disappear with a quick dab of a damp cloth. Now you can PRESERVE FLOWERS from your garden so they'll last years! Pick flowers at peak of bloom and strip off leaves. If they have small blossoms, tie in small loose bunches and hang upside down in dark, dry, warm place (about 75-85 degrees F.) where you can leave them alone 1 to 3 weeks. If flowers have large blooms, put in box .and cover completely with mixture of 1 part borax, 5 parts white corn meal. Either lay them down or put stems in cardboard so they'll stand up. Store in dark, dry, warm room. When petals feel dry and crisp, they're ready to arrange--as colorful as when picked. Keep hubby from SLIPPING OFF LADDER STEPS by tacking pieces of rubber stair pads to each step or rung. If you've recently bought lingerie made of the NEW SPANDEX FABRIC, don't worry at all about washing it. It won't get yellow or grey even after lots of washing in hot water, unless you add a clorine bleach. If you want to bleach use t he all-fabric perborate type -- label should say safe for all fabrics, including silk and wool. Use only loheat when you dry spandex garments to avoid shrinkage and loss of elasticity. Here's an all-purpose recipe that's specially good for August "dog days" -- SALlAD ALA MACARONI. Cook 8 oz. elbow macaroni; drain, rinse with cold water, and drain .again. Stir in 2 cups shredded lettuce, 1 cup mayonnaise, 2 tsp. prepared mustard, 1 tsp. horseradish, % cup sliced scallions (or onions if you prefer), 1 tsp. salt and Vi tsp. pepper. Now add either crab, tuna or chicken meat --2 cans (6% oz. size), drained, boned and flaked. -Toss well and chill. Garnish with slices of 2 hard-cooked eggs, (serves 6) (Watch for Maggie every week!)
