Cooley on Waukegan street at high noon on Tuesday of this week, when \ their daughter, Opal, became the bride of Dwight E. Williams of Athens, Ohio. Mrs. Gordon Stringer most pleasantly entertained the members of the Social Wheel at her home on Fox river on Thursday afternoon. The McHenry band played an engagement at the Lake County Fair at Libertyville last Saturday afternoon and evening and made a great hit with the big crowd assembled. The Illinois Bell Telephone company at the local exchange received five orders for summer telephones during the past two weeks, which seems to indicate that some of our summer guests are planning on e'hjoying the balance of the summer and the early fall in this summer resort region. The foundation is in and the carpenters expect to start work on a new home for the Anton Blakes on Green street. Someone took the time and trouble to count the cars passing over the Fox river bridge here on Monday afternoon of this week and found that a trifle less than 500 had passed over the structure in a single hour. Through the efforts of the McHenry Park Improvement association, which is being tendered the cooperation of the McHenry City Council, water from the city mains has been led into the city's park on Pearl street. Additional means have been provided whereby visitors who stop at the park for short rest periods or for the purpose of eating their picnic lunches are supplied with clean, healthy water. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of August 31, 1939) A jury in the county court last Wednesday returned a verdict of $6,750 in favor of Henry -Fel me ten, Jr., in the condemnation suit filed by the Department of Public Works for the purchase of 15.5 acres of land located on the Fox river near the McHenry dam for a state park site. It was an agreement. between both state and the property owner, with the jury merely returning the verdict as a matter of law. Cassidy delivered a warm welcome to all the delegates. Indications point to the assembly of the first jury in the county court . containing the names of women on its roster since the new law recently passed permitting women to serve on juries, Sept. 13. Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Thomas, accompanied by friends, intend to leave today for a trip to Denver and then on to a fishing trip in the north woods before returning. Among those most susceptible are maple, elm, black locust, linden, catalpa, tulip and red bud trees. According to William T. Larkin, superintendent of the Division of Plant Industry, trees that show only a limited amount of wilt may recover, while those showing a general overfall wilting usually die. Vertieillium wilt is usually caused by lack of proper feeding and sufficient water. Trees should be fed, or fertilized, in the months of April, May, October or November. Right now the most important thing you can do for your trees is to water them -- and don't sapre the water if you want to spare the tree.
