Freund attended a dinner at the Marvin Rooney home in Crystal Lake, Sunday, honoring their new son who was christened at St. Thomas church on that day with, his cousin, Peggy Herrmann and his uncle, Lyle Rooney, serving as sponsors. Steven John who was born at Sherman hospital, Elgin, Sept. 17, is the fortieth grandchild of Mrs. A. P. Freund. He has a brother, Danny, fifteen months old. Other guests in the Rooney home on Sunday were the paternal grandmother, Mrs. Thomas Rooney, and the Lyle Rooney family of Crystal Lake. Mr. Crisanti, a summer resident of Griswold Lake for many years, and a permianent resident the past few years where he and hisvwife resided with the late Mrs. Olivia Weyland, died unexpectedly at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Thomas, in Skokie, where they had gone to make their home a few weeks ago. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stenger entertained at a dinner and bon voyage party for a group of relatives at a four hour plane stop-over at O'Hare Field, on Sept. 26 enroute from San Carlos, Calif., to New York where they spent a week before leaving for Bristol, England, where he is establishing a subsidiary of( a United States Corporation by whom he has been employed for some time. Present for the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stenger, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stenger and sons, Mr. and Mrs. George Stenger and daughter, Mrs. William Spencer, Mrs. Thomas Phalin, Mi*', and Mrs. George Scherzer and Mr. and Mrs. David Page. Mr. and Mrs. Lisle Bassett have returned from a two weeks trip to Houston, Texas, where they visited her mother, Mrs. Mary Switzer. Enroute there they called on relatives in Chillicothe, Missouri and friends in Topeka, Kansas. Mrs. Frank Meyer spent a recent day as the guest in the home of her aunt in Kenosha. Alfred Young of St. Peters- ^burg, Fla., was a recent weekend" gttest in the home of his parents^, Mr. and Mrs. 'Ray Rage./He was attending a two weeks seminar presented by the telephone company by whom he is employed at the Automatic Electric Company plant in Chicago. Mrs. Robert Conway spent; a>; recent day in Elgin where she visited in the John Aylward, Jack Whalen and George Adams homes. Mrs. Adams, who has been confined to her bed through illness for several days is showing improvement. John Hoffmann of Indianapolis, Ind., was an overnight guest in the home of his aunt, Mrs. F. J. Aicher, Thursday. Among the folks from here who attended the wake of Salvatore Crisanti at Hough Funeral Home in Chicago or his funeral which took place from St. Joan of Arc church Friday morning were: Messrs. and Mesdames William J., Harold, Anthony, Vincent and Russell Weyland; Mrs. Mary Kintgen, daughter Jean, Mrs. Ann Leonetti and Mr. and Mrs. George Minter. Mrs. Velma Douglas and Mrs. Elizabeth Walsh were visitors in the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Kaddatz in Genoa City, Wis., Thursday. Mrs. Kaddatz returned with them for a visit in the Walsh home and with other old friends here. Misses Myra and Edna Speaker of Richmond visited their sister, Mrs. Leslie Olsen, Friday. Mrs. Emily Broeker, who with her husband, the late Arthur Broecker, had been spending the summer in McHenry, left Saturday for her winter home in Chuluota, Fla. Miss Mary Burdahl and Mrs. George H. Johnson attended a luncheon given by the Chicago Plant, Fruit and Flower Guild at Old Orchard recently. Mrs. Betty Nielsen, who had been spending the summer in McHenry, returned to California last week. Miss Clara Miller accompanied her home for a visit. Ray McGee was in Chicago, Saturday, where he attended the funeral of his cousin, Mrs. Mary McBreen, at St. Simeon church. Mr. and Mrs. Stephen N. Schmitt of St. Petersburg, Fla.. who had been spending the summer in McHenry, returned last week accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. John Thelen of Johns- "burg from a very enjoyable trip to the states of Washington, California and New Mexico where they did much sightseeing and visited relatives. They left Chicago by train Sept. 7 for Chehallis, Wash., where they visited their nieces and nephews, the L. Aldenbrook, in Lakewood, where the Schmitts joined them on Sept. 22. On Sept. 25 the four left for Santa Fe, New Mexico, for a visit with their niece,, Mrs. Fred Morey, before entraining for home on Sept. 28. The Schmitts spent another week here before leaving for their winter home in Florida Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. George Hafner of Brecksville, Ohio, are spending the week here where they came to attend the Radloff- Adams wedding on Saturday. Mrs. Sig Engstrom of Crystal Falls, Mich., and Mrs. Rudy Hulks, of Sagola, Mich., have been spending several days in the home of the former's daughter, Mrs. Harvey Fruik. A family gathering was held at the Robert Low home Sunday observing the thirty-ninth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mr^ Leslie Olsen, Sr., the tenth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. James Kline of Woodstock and also Mrs. Kline's birthday. Present to help them celebrate were the Jr. Leslie Olsen family of Crystal Lake and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Low and Bobby. Mr. and Mrs. Alfons Adams returned Saturday from a week's visit in the Otto Adams home in Park Falls, Wis., where they enjoyed bow and arrow hunting. Mrs. Adams had the good luck to bag a 92 lb. spike buck while there. Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Martin have returned from an enjoyable vacation in which they visited Ford's Greenfield Village, in Detroit, Toronto and Kingston in Ontario also the Thousand Islands and St. Lawrence regions, coming home by way of New York. They called on many friends enroute. Mr. and Mrs. William Jordan of Downers Grove were Sunday visitors in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Jordan, where they helped his father and his grandfather, Mrs. Mary Turner, celebrate their birthdays. Mrs. Turner returned home with them for a visit. tMrs. A. P. Freund, the Arthur .Jonyan, William Herrmann, Elmer Smith, Volney Brown and Irving Freund families were in Waukegan Saturday to attend the wedding of the former's grandson, John Petitclair to Penny Larson which took place at Immaculate Conception church with a reception following at the Elks Club. Close Call Mrs. Paula Krumwiede and her husband were pleasantly surprised by their son-in-law, James Bottorss of Phoenix, Ariz. It almost became a tragedy for James. He was on the train that was hit by another train. Fortunately James was not seriously hurt, he had several praises- Birthday Greetings go to little A1 Ba- Surprise Birthday party was held for Little Miss Peanut, Debbie Bellino, Monday, Sept. 28. The Kiwanis Club held the surprise party at the American Legion hall in McHenry. A lovely dinner was enjoyed by Debbie and her mother, Tena, and all who attended. Debbie received many lovely gifts. On Sunday, Sept. 28, a surprise birthday party was held for Debbie at her home. Seventeen children helped Debbie celebrate her big day. Hurt Bob Levand hurt his leg at work and required stitches to close up the cut. Here's hoping it is completely healed now Bob. Talking With Louise Epperson she tells me her son, LeRoy, now has a brace for his foot. But this doesn't stop him from climbing up trees and being a little monkey like the rest of the kids. Back From Honeymoon Talking with Marge Polinski she tells me her daughter and son-lin-law, Kathy and James Kelley, have returned from their three weeks honeymoon. A letter of thanks was received from Edward Plumer, manager of the National Home, for the donation given by the. auxiliary. We welcome home our musician, Katherine Frazier, who has just returned from a twoweek trip to Canada, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and the Niagara Falls in New York. It is dues time again, ladies. Attend the annual membership kick-off dinner on Oct. 26. Your paid up 1965 dues card is your admission. The dinner is to be a pot-luck dinner, so please bring a dish to pass. Dinner is to begin at 7 p.m. Let us all try to make this one of our best years. Daisy Smith, 5th district senior vice-president, has been in the interesting sights of Texas and Mexico. James and Kathy are now residing in Des Plaines, 111. on a tour of inspections which included Elmhurst, Batavia, Bensenville, Addison, Joliet and Libertyville. Daisy also attended a membership dinner at the Wheaton auxiliary with 5th District President Irene Johnson and Past District President Gwen Timm. The Junior Girls unit is very busy with their projects which include the day ^nursery at National Home, Woodstock Children's Home and also the School for Retarded Children. A joint project of the auxiliary and the Junior unit is for the hospitalized veterans. The Junior girls are making hospital trays. The ladies of the auxiliary and the girls of the Junior unit are asked to bring combs, toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc. to put on these trays. The ladies are asked to bring their donations to the membership kick-off dinner. These trays will then be presented to the men at Downey at the November party. ,A luncheon will be held for the department president, Garneta Stringer, on Nov. 7 at the LaSalle hotel in Chicago. Daisy Smith and Sylvia Hess attended a fashion show at the Villa Park auxiliary on Sept. 25. Orchids to Jean Wiles, Viola Schubel and all the gals that worked so hard to make the rummage sale the success that it was.
