Cuts Lovewell Little, girls, big girls, all girls these days are wearing STRETCH P A N T S . N y l o n stretch is so easy to care for-- until it's been worn and washed several times. Then there's that awful piling of the fabric. To solve it use an ordinary safety razor and shave the pants. Yes, I said shave them --you'll laugh 'til you see how well it works! GUILDED FRAMES on pictures or clocks will look better after being rubbed with cloth soaked in alcohol or turpentine. With winter coming, you'd think you could relax on YOUR GARDENING. Taint so! There's work to be done to guarantee a nice garden and lawn next spring. First, you rrpjst do a thorough clean-up. Dead leaves and debris breed plant disease and insect nesting. Slow up on your watering to avoid starting new growth on plants and shrubs--it can't take the winter cold. Mulching with peat or straw at the first freeze is important to retain plant moisture and protect against ravages of alternate freezing and thawing. Your lawn should be fertilized now with a complete chemical fertilizer and bare spots should be re-seeded. Water thoroughly, but less often--and keep clear of leaves. BEAUTY TIP: If you have perfume or cologne that you don't like to wear, use a few drops to scent bath water. When you serve beef stew, does your family groan? PLAN STANDBY EQUIPMENT IN COUNTY HOSPITAL Continued efforts to make patients' stay at Memorial Hospital for McHenry County as comfortable and safe as possible will result in the addition of standby equipment soon. An extra precaution to assure the availability of power at all times during any emergency was approved by the board of directors of Memorial hospital last week following studies spearheaded by the generator committee. Russell Reimer is chairman of this committee. Jack Byers, president of the board, said the board approved a recommendation to construct a small addition to house a new 115-kilowatt standby generator. Board action followed several weeks of analysis and discussion. Bert Hanson, administrator, explained the significance of this action. "The unit is big enough to carry the entire load of the hospital during an interruption in electrical service for an indefinite period. "It will be powered by natural gas, but it will have an alternate power source, too-- gasoline." Present standby equipment is capable of handling critical needs for a period of time but is not big enough for the hospital which has expanded twice since 1958--to a 100-bed hospital. Memorial Hospital for McHenry county this year is observing its fiftieth year of service to the county. Estimated cost of this addition -- including the building and generator --• is about $15,- 000. Work will begin soon and will be completed thirty to forty- five days after it is started. Most successful people seem to have acquired certain definite work habits, among which are: 1) always on time, 2) never blow a fuse, 3) do work on schedule and with method, and 4) never afraid of difficult jobs.
