Hie obedience classes, the hours of practice, the pangs of impatience--suddenly became well worth their while on one fine afternoon at the Chain-O-Lakes German Shepard Dog Club, Inc., show: Duke won a trophy!--second place in the subnovice class. Owners and trainers Gene and Barbara Urbanski (i.e., Duke is trained by Gene; Barbara is led around by Duke--just to get the facts straight) were as proud as they were surprised, reports Barbara, "He's so young yet and everything. We never expected this." But the judges obviously impressed when Gene put Duke through his paces. Obediene^s^hool student made good. x Top honors probably ,belong to Gene, for his perserverence and patience (?). Now don't let this thing go to your head, Duke: you're ' already headstrong enough for Barbara. Don't forget you're bigger than she is -- or at least weigh about the same! Good luck to each of you and here's to a very trophied future, Duke. Halloween . . . i s j u s t a r o u n d t h e c o r ner and the annual party that is usually the highlight of the day will not be held this year --or will it? The resignation of our entertainment chairman, Harold Palmer, means no Halloween party, no Santa at Christmas, no ice skating pond, no Easter egg hunt. Or does it? Who will fill this gap? Harold put his all into these events for the past eight years. Who will now take their turn at managing these events that add so much to the lives of our children? Won't you? There is still' fame to organize the Halloween party. Whd will help? The results ot course are disgusting. Every litter bit of that sort of litter is little fun to un-litter. Feed your dog at home. Keep your dog at home.
