3s safe -- Page Tw@ THE McHENRY PL AINDEALEB Thursday, November 19. 1961 JOHNSBURG NEWS BBITr HETTERMANN HOME AND SCHOOL ASSOCIATION WILL MEET NOVEMBER 23 585-1290 The next monthly meeting of St. John's Home and School Association will be held at 8 p.m. in the community club hall on Monday, Nov. 23. At this time Mrs. Victor Justes will hold an informal demonstration on the wrapping of C h r i s t m a s p a c k a g e s . T h i s should prove most interesting to all with the holidays almost upon us. Another topic on the agenda for this meeting will be the selecting of committees for the forthcoming dance on Jan. 16. All parents are asked to be present at this meeting next Monday evening. on the 18th, our boys will be host to Woodstock in the local gym. Game time is 8 p.m. Try and get over to watch the fellows play. Everyone plays better when they know someone is i-Ooting for them. The same holds true for our grade school teams. Show them your cheering spirit is still alive by attending the games. Stndents Enjoy Outings The seventh grade class of St. John's were taken to Milwaukee last Wednesday to visit a factory where films are processed. Since this class is interested in this type of hobby, they were all ears and eyes during the entire tour of the factory. Following this they were taken to Mother House where lots of thing were there to see as their annual sale was taking place. The day proved very informative and rewarding for all in attendance. The children were under the guidance of Sister Angelene, Sister Beatta Marie and Sister Ann Celeste during the whole outing. Several of the mothers provided transportation for the trip. The same day many of the members of the C.Y.J. boarded a bus which took them to Chicago to see a current movie. They also did some short sightseeing trips on the side. Father Weidemann was instru mental in obtaining the show tickets few the group. Basketball Notes Fm sorry to say we lost all three games to St. Mary's last Sunday afternoon but we are all looking forward to bigger and better things m the future. The Johnsburg Forester town team opened the 1964-65 season on the 8th of this month by losing a very close game to MarengoX The score was 73 to 72. (How close can you get?) Nov. 11 found the team on the winning side of a 106 to 66 when they beat Wauconda. They continued their winning streak to trounce Huntley, 85 to 69 on the 15th. Coming up Sewing Guild Members Meet The Pink Ladies Sewing Guild of the Women's auxiliary to the McHenry hospital met last week in the McHenry home of Mae Siadek. Lilliam Cox acted as co-hostess at this meeting. Nineteen ladies participated at this time, including two from this area. They were Tillie Ahrens and Esther Knapp. Resrue Squad Calls Only one call was answered by the Johnsburg Rescue Squad members this past week. This call came at 4:30 a.m. on Nov. 14. A Pistakee Highlands resident suffered a possible broken nose and lacerations of the face in a home accident. He was taken to the McHenry hospital for further treatment. The running count has climbed upward to 2,424. Nominating Committee Selected At the last meeting of the Blessed Virgin Sodality, the following ladies were chosen to serve on the nominating committee for new officers. They are Alvina Miller, Eva Schaefer, Sarah Oeffling and Kay Sielisch. When these la dies contact you try to be as helpful as possible. If there should be someone within read ing distance of this column that would like to be an of ficer in the sodality, please call any of the officers. They will be more than happy to assist you any way they can. Congratulations Corner Our best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith who will have a wedding anniversary coming up on Nov. 24. The Meyers boys share Nov. 20 as both their natal days. Jim who will be 17 has a slight edge on Johnny, who will be 4. Happy birthday wishes to them from us all. all hope the trouble has now been found and it will be the end of Marilyn's woes. Early Deadline In Offing With Thanksgiving coming up, this column has an earlier deadline for next: week. My copy of this eolitmn must be into the office by noon this Friday, Nov. 20. If you have any news items for next week's paper please call before that time. New Son For The Huemanns Friday the 13th is not an unlucky day as far as Tom and Darlene Huemann are concerned. Their second son and fourth child arrived on this date. A strong healthy young lad ^who was named Thomas Welaon arrived at the McHenry hospital weighing 9 lbs. on Nov. 13. His ginndparents Hospital Patient Marilyn Smith spent all last ~a&, a patient in St. Jo- 4ph's hospital where she underwent a series of tests. Parents Weekend At Culver-Stockton Harold May's sister and husband, the Richard Dehns, along with Tony and Loretta Freund of McHenry, spent last weekend in Canton, Mo. They participated in the school functions which were planned for the parents weekend at Culver- Stockton college. The foursome returned home Sunday evening. Brother Passes On Our sympathies are extended to Mrs. Martha Oeffling and Albert Huff upon the recent passing of their brother, Edward. - Wedding Vows Exchanged * Pistakee Hills will be the future home for Mr. and Mrs. Richard Michels. The couple exchanged their marriage vows in St. John's church on Nov, 14 at 11:30. Mrs. Michels is the former Rose Marie Schmitt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Schmitt. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Charles Biichels. A reception honoring the newlywedded paid was held later in the day at the community club hall. We join in extending our wishes to them for a very healthy and happy future together as man and wife. It's farewell for this week. SPRING GROVE NEWS EVA FREUND 678-1185 FULL CALENDAR OF EVENTS FOR ST. PETER'S The coming weeks are filled with social events at St. Peter's parish. The annual Thanksgiving party will be held in the hall on Nov. 23. Christian Mothers meeting will be held on Thursday night, Nov. 19. The program for the evening will be a flower demonstration which will begin at 7:30 p.m. Chairman of the lunch committee is Betty Ann Freitag and the program chairman is Frances Kabot. Members of the Holy Name Society had an evening of bowling on Sunday, Nov. 15. The ushers and their wives enjoyed "going out to dinner" together on Wednesday night, Nov. 18. New Liturgical Mas* Begins On Nov. 29, the first Sunday of Advent English and Latin masses will begin at St. Peter's. The congregation will participate in word and song. Singing practice will be held cm Friday night, Nov. 20 at 7:30 for all women of the parish. ' Proud Grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Charles May have another grandchild. Their son, Jim, and his wife of Plainfield, Ind., have a baby boy. Our son, Dan, and his wife, Ruth, called on Thurs day, Nov. 12 to tell us they have a daughter, weighing-Gibs. 11 ozs. The little miss will be named Debby . Marie. Dan is stationed at Grand ForKF Air Base in North Dakota. We plan on taking a trip up therte and spending Thanksgiving with them. Accident "Mrs. Theresa Klauk is a patient in Condell Memorial Hospital in Libertyville. She was in a car accident and will have to remain in the hospital for three weeks. She has a broken breast bone. I'm sure Theresa would love to hear from you, so let's all send her a card. The birthday club met at the home of Mrs. Frances McNally on Nov. 9. Winners in cards were Minnie Pierce, Emma May, Viola McNish and Sijsie Rudolph. Lunch was served.
