KA(TRO\VI( Z The Community Methodist church was the setting for a pretty wedding on Saturday, Nov. 7, when Miss Donna Harris of Powers Lake, Wis., became the bride of Mr. Thomas A. Kacprowicz of McCullom Lake. Miss Schmitt Wed Saturday St. John the Baptist church in Johnsburg was the scene of a lovely wedding last Saturday morning, Nov. 14, when Miss Rose Marie Schmitt became the bride of Mr. Richard Michels. Rev. John Dording officiated at the 11:30 o'clock nuptial rite. Miss Schmitt is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard N. Schmitt of 3802 N. St. John's avenue, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Michels of 1816 W. Boiling, McHenry. The pretty bride chose a long, white dress styled with scoop neckline, the skirt extending into a train. Her crown of roses held a shoulder length veil and she carried a bouquet of white roses. Miss Schmitt made her entire bridal ensemble. Mrs. Richard Hiller acted as matron of honor f$r her sister and Ruth Schmitt, another sister, was bridesmaid. They were attired in shocking pink, floor length dresses with crowns of roses. Both carried dark red roses. Harold Michels- served his brother as best man and Jim Kennebeck of DeKalb was groomsman. Mrs. Schmitt wore for her daughter's wedding a pink suit and orchid corsage. Mrs. Michels was attired in a blue dress and similar corsage. Following the ceremony, breakfast was served to thirty, followed later in the day by a reception for 300 guests at the Johnsburg Community club hall. The couple left on a trip to New Orleans, and upon their return will reside in Pistakee Highlands. The bride and groom are both graduates of McHenry high school. All the coal mined since the dawn of history would provide heat enough to warm the waters of the Gulf Stream for only a few hours. SISTERS ATTEND NOTRE DAME BALL AND HOMECOMING Misses Madonna and Alicia Casey of Country Club drive. McHenry, recently attended the homecoming weekend at the University of Notre Dame. Alicia was the guest of Jack Ward of New Providence, New Jersey, and Richard Scott of Boston, Mass.. and Madonna was the guest of Robert Hogan of Binghamton, New York, and John Abbott of Pittsburg, Pa. This past weekend the young ladies again were guests of the same young men, the occasion being the University of Notre Dame's Tri-Military ball. In addition to their attendance at the ball, the girls cheered the Notre Dame team on to their eighth straight victory. They were happy to see the Irish, the nation's No. 1 team, defeat Michigan State 34-7. Their Saturday ended as members of the audience in the Clancy Brothers concert on the Notre Dame campus. 40-8 SPONSORS THANKSGIVING PARTY NOV. 21 Nov. 21 is the date set by the 40 & 8 Voitui^e 578 of McHenry County for their annual Thanksgiving party to be held at the Woodstock American Legion home. Activities will start at 8 o'clock, with dancing, lunch and several surprises during the evening. This is a fund raising event to help the 40 & 8 with their nurse training program. To date, they have given scholarships to twenty-seven girls from the county. Everyone is invited to attend. Among The Sick Mrs. Marie Matchen has returned to her home on Green street after 16 days at McHenry hospital following an accident in which she suffered a compound fracture of her back. She will be confined in a wheel chair for about 4 months and would welcome visitors and cheery messages. Forty-five adults from the Sybaquay Girl Scout council attended the Great Lakes regional conference in Chicago last week. Mrs. Raymond Bieschke of McHenry and Mrs. George Rink of Wonder Lake served as ushers. About 3,000 women, a few men from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin participated in the conference which marked the close of the first full year of the new Girl Scout program design. Featured speakers at the general sessions included Author- Humorist Emily Kimbrough; Dr. Jeanne L. Noble, professor at New York university's center for human relations and a member of the Girl Scout national board; Bishop Richard C. Raines of the Indiana area Methodist church; and Shirley M. Carson, assistant to the director of the Girl Scout program department. Nearly 600,000 girls and adults are Girl Scouts in the Great Lakes region. FRANKLIN OAKLEY STAGE DESIGNER FOR FALL PROGRAM Franklin Oakley of Wonder Lake has been named to head the committee in charge of staging for the forthcoming holiday program of the McHenry Choral club. Mr. Oakley, who is scenic designer for a leading television channel in Chicago, has been a member of the tenor section of the choral group for the last three years. He will be remembered for his attractive settings for the "Prince and Pauper" presentation of the club a year and a half ago. Others named to chairmanships are Ann Matthesius, costumes; Mildred Thomas, tickets; Ray Jensen, publicity; Kathleen Henn, makeup; Harriet Bell, banquet; and Phyllis Glysing, gifts and flowers. The holiday program will be presented Saturday and Sunday evenings, Dec. 5 and 6, in the high school auditorium. SON READS MASS HONORING PARENTS ON ANNIVERSARY Rev. Fr. Frank W. Zimmerman was celebrant Of a Mass at St. Mary's Catholic church in honor of the forty-fifth wedding anniversary of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank L. Zimmerman, Thursday, Nov. 12, at 8 a.m. The actual date was Nov. 11. Rev. Fr. Eugene Baumhofer gave the blessing and the couple renewed their marriage vows before the Mass. A noon luncheon was served to members of the family at the Zimmerman home. During the afternoon the couple was surprised by the arrival of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lederle, o^ Chicago, sister and brother-in-law of Mrs. Zimmerman, and her brother, Rev. Fr. Charles Hofer of St. Louis, Mo., also a niece and her husband and infant son, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Rathnau and Paul, Jr., also of Chicago. In the evening the family group was entertained at a dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Girard Zimmerman. The Zimmermans live on Lincoln road and have four children, Frances Harner of Salt Lake City, Utah; Girard, and Loretta Harner of McHenry and Father Frank of St. Patrick's parish, Amboy, and eleven grandchildren. McHENRY COLLEGE STUDENT PLAYS IN OPERA ORCHESTRA Ross Edward Macdonald, Mc Henry, is a French hornist with the opera orchestra which has a part in the Ball State Teach ers College Opera workshop production of the Mozart opera, "The Marriage of Figaro," being presented Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 12 to 14, in the College theatre. This is the first performance of the year for the college opera group. The opera is be ing directed by John Campbell, assistant professor of voice at Ball State. There is a cast of eleven, a production crew of twenty-eight, a thirty-twopiece opera orchestra, and the forty-voice concert choir. MUSICIANS JOIN TO GIVE HOLIDAY PROGRAM NOV. 30 The McHenry County Cham ber Music society will perform with the Northern Illinois Choral group in a joint concert at the new Crystal Lake high school auditorium Monday. Nov. 30, at 8 p.m. The program of baroque and contemporary Christmas music will include separate works by the Chamber orchestra as well as Vivaldi's "Gloria" by the two groups. "Mystery of Bethlehem" by Healy Willan will be performed by the chorus, with brass accompaniment. The Chamber orchestra will play "Symphony No. 4" by William Boyce and a concerto for flute and oboe by Gustav Hoist. Mrs Jerrold Bruhnke of Bull Valley will be oboe soloist. SHOP IN McHENRY THREE JOIN DELTA KAPPA GAMMA SOCIETY Delta Kappa Gamma of McHenry county welcomed three initiates from Crystal Lake ami one from Harvard at a luncheon meeting Saturday, Nov. 14, held at Marengo. New members honored were Mrs. Rulh Balch, who teaches first grade at North school, Mrs. Nita Cherry who is head of the_ commercial department at the Community high school, Miss Roberta Woker, who teaphps first grade at South school, all of Crystal Lake, and Mrs. Gertie Dunn, who teaches first grade at Harvard. The initiation was beautifully supervised by Mrs. Marcia Wright, under the direction of the president, Miss Edith Newcomer. The luncheon was followed by a short program emphasizing the purposes, histttry and leaders of Delta Kappa Gamma. The December meeting will be a Christmas party at Edgebrook school in McHenry, with the McHenry members as hostesses. The program will be in charge of Agnes Thomsen and Marie Patton, with Mrs. Maxine Kempf furnishing Christmas music. The special speaker will be Miss Roberta Woker, who will tell of her experiences in teaching American children in Germany. The society will follow its usual custom of bringing Christmas gifts for patients in the Elgin State hospital. HEAD LITERARY CLUB Douglas Sellek of Wonder Lake, a sophomore at Blackburn college, Carlinville, was recently selected as president of the Literary club, announced Dr. Barnard, faculty advisor. Doug, the son of Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Sellek, 4608 E. Lake Shore drive., Wonder Lake, is a 1963 graduate of McHenry community high school.
