Just before striking the house the main cable was hit near the house knocking out power in some nearby homes. The lightning. hit the antenna at the Jerls home and traveled thru the lead in cord to the TV causing much crackling and sputtering and knocked out the TV for the rest of the night. After the necessary repairs, things returned to normal next day--including the TV but according to Mrs. Jerls--it was a very scary night and I don't doubt it a bit, do you? Highland Shores Party ftuth and Jack Russell entertained fifteen for Thanksgiving dinner.. Instead of taking the traditional walk around the block after dinner to get rid of that stuffed feeling--the whole group went bowling and it Just seemed to top off a wonderful day. On Friday the Russeils entertained at dinner in Woodstock for their son, Dick, and his bride-to-be, Marlene Klindworth, and their wedding party. Dick and Marlene were married on Saturday. Ladles Group Meets The November meeting of the Wonder Woods Ladies Group at Millie's was attended by sixteen ladies who enjoyed conversation, delicious refreshment and made plans for the Christmas party to be held at Millie's on Tuesday evening, Dec. 15. There will be the usual "grab bag" gift exchange and supper. This is for all Woods ladies; talk to your neighbor about it and plan to attend. Santa will be in our subdivision again this season--- the date is not definite as yet --and if you wish him to stop and see your youngsters, call either Mary Gosse or Dorothea Moore. If you are interested in ice skates to rent call Mrs. Moore. Surprise Party for Sftaron Sharon Taylor was just to the point where she was sure ^yery single member of her family had completely forgotten her birthday Sunday, Nov. 29, when she pleasantly discovered they hadn't forgotten at all. After a nice Sunday afternoon ride with her husband, George, she went to visit her mother, Mrs. Hank Jahn, and there they were -- the whole family including all t lie kids and friends of the popular young couple were all gathered to help her celebrate her 21st-plus birthday with a wonderful dinner. Reporting on the beans and steak contest, Bill Cristy's team came up with an extra two points above the Mathew's team. Our guest, George Booker, drew the name for the Battle Axe Award. The proposed 1965 budget as prepared by the budget committee of which Tom Mathews is chairman, was approved. The Kiwanis will work in cooperation with the following organizations on the Christmas Baskets: the American Legion, Wonder Lake Chamber of Commerce, Women of the Ringwood M. E. Church. Paul Eberle will act as liaison officer for all the groups. Last year the baskets were assembled at the Legion hall, and distributed by the Legion members along with the Wonder Lake fire department. Anyone having knowledge of a needy case, please contact a member of the above mentioned organizations, a member of the clergy at Wonder Lake, or postmaster Eberie. This is a Community Project. The Lt. Gov. Jess Mudgett, has asked the McHenry Kiwanis Club and the Wonder Lake Kiwanis Club to sponsor the Division Sports Day to be held in July. Our Division is composed of Belvidere, Crystal Lake, Cary-Fox River Grove, DeKalb, Dundee Township, McHenry, Sycamore, Wonder Lake and Woodstock. Christ the King Thursday, Dec. 3, at the Altar and Rosary Sodality, the annual Christmas party will be the big event of the evening. Rosary will be said at 8:15 in the church and the meeting and party will follow at 8:30. Remember to bring a $1 grab bag gift and your holiday spirit. Sunday, Dec. 6 there will be a bake sale after all the Masses, all proceeds to be sent to the Newman Center. All the women of the parish try and bake something for this benefit, it is a worthy cause. Scouti In £firffttfMto Olft DHW This year the entire Wonder Lake Area Scout Troops will combine efforts to provide as many Christmas gifts as possible for the children, teens, young adults, and some of the older residents at the state schools in Lincoln and Dixon. In the past years the Cub Scouts have made it a custom to bring toys and personal items wrapped and labeled to their December Pack meetings to be delivered to the youngsters in state schools for the mentally retarded. This has always proved to be a tremendous success and much appreciated by the children. 41 Christmas will be here In approximately three more weeks and this year all the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Cadette Girl Scouts, Jr. Girl Scouts aind Brownie Troops are going to join in this Christmas Custom. The leaders will announce the date of the respective parties or meetings at which the gifts are to be brought. If there are any items which you would care to donate and you do not have a Scout in your home please contact one in your subdivision and they will be happy to bring it to their Troop.
