ACT TO IMPROVE MARKET CONDITION OF DAIRY FARMERS The U.S. Department of Agriculture/ recently issued a final decision to revise the Chicago and South Bend milk marketing orders as proposed by Pure Milk association to improve dairy farmer income and marketing conditions. The major changes included by the department in its final decision to amend Chicago Order 30 would: 1. Provide for two classifications of milk instead of the present three. Class I milk will ipclude milk, skim milk, buttermilk, yogurt, flavored milk, flavored milk drinks, fluid cream and sour cream products labeled Grade A. The newly designated Class 11 will include Ice cream, tage cheese, butter, nonfat d milk, cheese, eggnog and otl manufactured products not d ignated as Class I. 2. Simplify the methods in accounting for the util: tion of rrjilk by adopting a ski milk and butterfat basis of counting in place of the ml equivalent of butterfat method; 3. Change the point of prift* ing producer milk from the 5$* to 70-mile zone (distance frorif Chicago city hall) to the mat* keting area (all of Cook afljd DuPage counties and parts djf Lake, Kane and Will counties --an area which includes approximately 6 million consumers). This change would mal^e the price quotations for pro* ducers more comparable with other market^ ^ 4. Revise the provisions tap qualifying dairy plants to par? ticipate in the maricetwide pool.
