Mike's fourteen day leave ended the lO.th when he flew back to Fort Benning, Ga., 'Now werre just waiting for May to come," concluded Rose. Why? Bedause that is when Mike will be discharged. "Watching him come in the house and leave," replied Mother Florence -- and trying to keep the kitchen fires going strong, to be prepared for the capacity of his hollow leg!! Good show. I., on the 8th. Ahoy. Gary Schroeder arrived home mid-morning of the 29th and by 2 p.m. that same day, was the proud owner of a beautiful cream-colored car. So it was an extra happy day for all concerned. Needless to say, Ve and Roy hated to see thje dawn of the 11th, when Gary drove that beautiful new car back to his base at Norfolk, Va. But most happy holiday memories will linger at home and at the bases. At the regular bi-monthly meeting of the Sunnyside Estates Homeowners Association held on Jan. 7 at the Johnsburg school, Tom Williams, Ray Jensen and Jerry Olsen were sworn into their offices as members of the board of directors. The Board of Directors had elected Mel Simmons president and Jake Kelso vice-president; they also took their oaths of office. Shirley Simmons will remain your secretary and Gene Gerke your treasurer. Ted Bierchen graciously offered to be chairman of the beach committee. That leaves one vacancy: entertainment chairman. House Guests From Two Rivers, Wis., Mrs. Lulu Kollberg came to spend the four days of the New Years weekend with daughter, Char' lotte Maule, and her family. Handy sideline of the. visit was the built-in baby-sitter factor on New Years Eve while Dale and Charlotte attended the party, at the Cal Vydunas. And what a time Pat and Mike had baking with Grandma on New Years Day! Fine time for all concerned. Dan and Kate Dervin of Tarrytown, N. Y., were the guests of the Jerry Olsens for these same four days. There's never lack of conversation when the Dervins are around^ so that was the major sport during their visit; showing each other's slides of the New York vacation spent at the Dervins, and rehashing that trip was the minor sport; and the big event was the N6w Years Eve dinner party attended also by the O'- Connells of Elk Grove Village and the Dykemans of Chicago, with a couple neighbors dropping in during the wee hours of the first day of '65 . . Qf all the candlelight meals served during the Dervins' visit, New Years Day brunch was the dimmest--although all the .lights were on! Wishing Well Wishes ... to little six-month old Kerri Barg Berg who was taken to St. Theresa's hospital on Jan. 5. Little Kerri's bronchial cough developed into pneumonia and although she certainly caused her parents, Marlene and Wally, some very anxious moments, she is doing well and will be home again soon. . . . t o C a t h y P a l m e r w h o i s feeling very much improved and should be back home by the time you are reading this. . . to David Hanahan who. celebrated his father's inauguration into the,, state legislature in Springfield by getting three stitches , taken in his head just before the cocktail party was about to begin! After aU that excitement 'everyone needed a cocktail. •' •" • i« fiitiufci' Major Vacation: At Home And Away It probably takes less gaJf for Steve to drive to work every day than it did to spend a two week vacation "at home"! It all began on Dec. 19 when Steve and Lorraine were dinner guests at the Charles Kubes's home in Chicago, topped off by a poker game that left Lorraine's purse feather-' weight. Smce the Majors' friends, the 'Pechans, were away in Florida for the holidays, their children were invited to a turkey dinner at the Majors on the 23rd. Then Christmas Eve was spent at Stevie and Margaret's apartment in McHenry, where the two little, grandchildren delighted both sets of grandparents with their brighteyed delight with all this toy bit. Upon their return home at 2. a.m., it was gift-opening time along with Mike and friend Mary Larkin. Back into Chicago on the day after Christmas to visit the Svedas and the Motrys. More poker and even less weight in Lorraine's purse!. The * following day Steve's sister and family, the Andreasens, came to the Estates for the day. Steve, Jr., and children also. Back into Chicago on Monday to "see the Christmas decor". What did they find? Miserably heavy traffic and curtained windows: for the department stores, Christmas was fini! and the apres sales were on! But State Street was still resplendent with decor. Then on to Oak Lawn to fetch niece, Francine,. who was. coming to spend a week with the Majors. To Genoa City on Tuesday to visit ex-neighbors, the original owners of the Stephens home, Gus and Millie Moresi, who now are thoroughly enjoying their beautiful new home on their pony farm. By the way, their show pony now has thirty, yes, 30 ribbons to its credit. They saw in thfe New Year at the house party of A1 and Mary Lieb in Lake Villa. On New Year's Day Fred Geisler (Francine's father) came out to stay til Sunday. The Joe Svedas from Chicago and Stevie, Jr., were also guests of the day. For a fitting climax to this all, on Sunday the Majors hosted the Pechans who had just returned from Florida, tanned beyohd recognition, and lo&dr ed with ocean fish. Monday morning was a tough one, but after sitting silently over his coffee for ten minutes, Steve finally muttered, "Well, --" and not quite singing "Hi Ho", it was off to work he went anyway. What?
