Thursday. February 25. 1964 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Sectloi Thmi SUNNYSIDE ESTATES FRAN OLSEN 385-5740 LOCAL COUPLES ENJOY WEEKEND IN WISCONSIN For their winter vacation in the sun, in the moonlight, under electric lights, and in the pool, Tom and Delores Hanahan, Art and Janet Herman, and two other couples spent the past weekend at one of those inviting resort hotels in Fontana, Wis. The fact that there was no snow was not about to dampen their plans for tobogganing: they set out like good explorers and found a four foot hill of ice! Zippy-zip. And that didn't last long. But dee skating conditions were perfect. Swimming was a mid-winter night's dream. Dining became one of the heartiest jokes of the -weekend' because the service was so slow, and dancing had its hilarious moments also when Art attempted to "put on" the teen-agers doing the Watusi and ended up being a popular partner, mockery and all! When Janet facetiously asked one of the young gals how one dances this distortion called the Watusi, she replied, "Just move your head and your body will go with it!"!!!?? Whose? Maybe more oil in the joints would help! Estates Revisited 'Twas a day much as any other (well packed) and this housewife had just finished waxing her freshly scrubbed kitchen floor and flopped into the nearest chair, when what to these wondering eyes should appear, but a visitor from afar! From coast-to-coast-type afar. Bill Grist, former neighbor and owner of the Stoffel home on Grand view, who is now living in Fremont, Calif., had just attended a sales convention in New York City and was "working his way back home", so to speak. How good the snow looked to him! But Bill and Bernadine are very mucfi^ in love with California and with their lovely new home that is nestled in the valley at the foot of a snow-capped mountain, so are confirmed Californians. Bernadine couldn't seem to tear herself away from her work to make the trip East, with Bill, but plans to do so next time. Meanwhile, the Grists send their best to all. P. S. What fun the Olsen children thought it was to have an unexpected guest for dinner. Wonders never cease. Our Sympathy . . . t o Y v o n n e K u e c h e l a n d all her family in their sorrow over the death of Yvonne's grandmother of Maywood, 111. Yvonne was especially saddened to have her pass away so soon after the Kuechels' return to this area, from which they could visit Grandma so conveniently, since they had lived so far away for the previous nine years. Rookie Red Wings . . . haven't died, they've just melted into oblivion. If Old Man Winter stabilizes ye olde fluctuating mercury long enough to shape up the ice, the hockey schedule will resume for our Red Wings and the rest of the newly formed and nearly retired teams. Brownie Busters: "... Please DON'T. The Mc- Cauley family on Hilltop is very pleased that their family dog "Brownie" is such a favorite of so many fans, and it isn't surprising that he is, because he loves children. However when you set him free, besides becoming a fun playmate for you, kids, he soon becomes an innocent intruder, so he thinks, but not all the neighbors agree. So, all you Brownie Busters: love him, but leave him tied up. Parents, bring this to your child's attention. Women Wanted . . . the athletic sort. For volley ball. Thursday nights. Johnsburg school gym. 8 p.m. More women are needed for more fun. Great night out for sedentary (?) housewives. Husbands are invited on the last Thursday of each month. Such good? Get up and call Mary Ellen Wickman, 385-3258, if you need a ride, or more information. © Let's Roil Along Cadets Troop 41 is sponsoring another roller skating party, but this one will be an evening affair. March 10 at the Mc- Henry roller rink, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The proceeds will add to the fund for the scouts summer excursion that they are working so hard to finance. Just for fun, join the party. Botched Blotches A nurse in hand is worth two in the hospital -- or something like that -- is the way Ray Bieschke felt on their anniversary when, during their anniversary celebration at a fine restaurant, Ray blossomed out in beautiful blotches. But there was nothing to fear: their companions of the evening were up to the task: Norma the Nurse extracted some allergy pills from her purse, popped one into "Blotchy's" gullet, and Voila! instant clarity. The evening thus rescued for Alice and Ray and Norma and John. Ray, you must tell us all where this was that they serve blotches in their drinks. Happy Anniversary Today to Mr. and Mrs. William Bettin. On the 27th to Irene and Wally Roy who will be celebrating their eighteenth year together. On the 28th to Frank and Mary Mann who will be beginning their twenty-fourth year of marriage. May you each have a lovely day, each in your own way, and may your coming year be as happy. A Wishing Well Wishes . . . t o H a r o l d P a l m e r w h o h a s been about as under the weather as Australia is under the world. His utterances have been coming in three variences: foggy voice, froggy voice, and no voice. How long has this been going on? Too long for Harold. Hope you can find a speedy recovery capsule before this is in print. . . . t o M e l S i m m o n s w h o i s home and feeling much better but who must take it easy -for awhile. 'Scuse last week's boo-, boo: Mel was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday; he first had gone to the doctor on Saturday. . . . t o M a r y R o s e w h o h a s been nursing one of those dreadfully sore throats that are the current trend in ailments. . . . t o C o n n i e a n d D a v i d Hanahan who have had another round of another sort of flu. . . . t o s o n n u m b e r 1 , w h o , together with his sled, had a face to face meeting with a fence and had to. get stitched up. , Candle Capers Since his birthday Is just the day after Valentine's day, Gary Wegner's cake was heart shaped and red roses topped to represent all the Wegners' love for their "dear heart". It was the hit of his first birthday, making a far greater impression on him than did his gifts, and he made quite an impression on that cake--with both hands!-- and ended up in the tub consequently. Uncle Roger from Chicago was out to enjoy the events of the day along with Gary and the family. The McCauleys hosted the Senior McCauleys for Lucille's birthday on the 15th, with Mom bringing the cake. Lucille says she feels she's being pushed into becoming an artist: she received three paint-by-number sets!! and says she hasn't tirrfe to even begin one, what with two little ones to chase after! Ah, Motherhood! It was just a family birthday for Andy Eichhorn this year, and that suited, him just fine. Happy Birthday Today to Darlene Gerke who reaches age nine. Tomorrow to Johnny Rau who becomes impressive eighteen. On the last day that isn't always the last day of February, to Ray Jensen. To tiny Carol Segerstrom who doesn't, even have a day on which to celebrate her very first birthday. Ah, the woes of being a leap year baby. On March 3 to Ted Voight, to Johnny Davis who will vote ih just one more year, and to Kathy Gerstein who will be nine years old. . ... ... A Fox Hunt . . . is to an English horseman what this poodle chase has been to all the children in the Estates, and who knows where else. That's what all the chas1 ing in packs has been about this past week. A cute little black poodle wearing a green sweater jumped out of the car of his brand-new owner last Friday and ever since the elusive l i t t l e poodle has been leading his owners-- and the children of the Estates--a mighty merry chase. Seeing packs of little people converge upon you repeatedly can have a certain type of psychotic effect on peace-seeking adult human sapiens, wonder how this poor canine is weathering the hunt? Sweet Suzette. an and Dorothy Jack, and three brothers, Richard, Donald and Alfred. Burial was in All Saints cemetery in Des Plaines. Sewing Circle News The girls of the Sewing circle got together last Tuesday at the Zeimet home. Julie reports that all the members showed up and got busy on new spring outfits, seems as if all of them are very tired of winter ancf the bad weather and enjoyed working on soft pastel colors. The next meeting will be at Joyce Pinkonsly's house on Marfch 2. Sick List We were sorry to hear that / SPRING and SUMMER d^ridaf (jown *Sh Sunday, Feb. 28 ow w 3 p.m. at Reva Peters is still a sick girl having had bouts with the flu, strep throat and ear infections since last December. Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Reva. Notice to Hockey Players "Several persons have called to request that the children playing hockey at the beach please put the tires back after using them. It seems that they take them off the pier and then just let them on the ice after the game is finished, by this time they are more than likely on the bottom making it a hazard for boats later in the season, so mention it to the children. Around the Shores The Olbinskis visited Gerry's mom, Mrs. Frances Conway; over the weekend. She was just released from the hospital after a six week stay. Hope she is feeling better now, Gerry. Ed and Gerry Olbinski and the children also visited with Mr. and Mrs. Yates and family who reside m Buffalo Grove. Mrs. Yates is Gerry's sister. Craig Mieritz Celebrates Fifth Birthday On Saturday the 13th Allen, Roberta, Vicld andOr&ig Mieritz went with Roberta's parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Matthews, of Edison Park to a Morton Grove restaurant to celebrate Craig's fifth birthday. After a good meal they all returned to Edison Park to continue his party, having cake and ice cream at grandma and grandpa's house. On Sunday they had Pat and Ray Hall and their four children out to continue the party and also celebrate the Halls' anniversary. Pat is Roberta's sister who resides in Prospect Heights. After liquid refreshments and a huge dinner they again enjoyed cake and sang happy birthday to Craig. Monday Craig invited Paul Pogor and his mom over for lunch and to finish the birthday party. They saved their cake until after school when Kurt Pogor and Vicki Mieritz joined in the fun. Sounds as if the whole family had three days of feasting and merry making. See you next week? Some gals nowdays get around to picking out a husband before Mom can. MARTI NETTTS Crystal Lake, III. ; V REFRESHMENTS mi Complimentary Tickets are waiting to be claimed at . . .
