Basketball Notes Sorry to report that our varsity and junior varsity lost to St. Peter and Paul of Gary last Sunday afternoon in the public school gym. We wish them better luck next time. In the county play-off, the Johnsburg town team beat Richmond, $6-85, last Thursday evening. Games this week will be the 24th when our team goes to Gary to try and defeat their team. If we win this game, our team will return >to Cary on the 25th. The best of luck to our town team. have many, many years of happiness in their home. We would like to extend warm welcome wishes to the Don Bender family also this week. The Benders moved into their newly purchased home on Mehring Avenue, in Jak- Ana Heights shortly before Christmas. This home was formerly occupied by the Lyn Duescher family* who are noW residents in Timberlake Estates. We hope both of these new families get to know all of us and like what they see and meet. Hospital Patients We wish to continue sending our get-well wishes to Albie Adams and Helen Decker who are still confined to the hospital. Please remember to send these shut-ins a cheery note or two. It will be greatly appreciated. Albie is in St. Therese in Waukegan and Helen is in Condell Memorial in Libertyville. Leo Smith made an unexpected trip to the McHenry hospital over last weekend. New Residents To Be Welcomed The welcome mat is dusted Off and laid down to welcome two new families in our town. On Dec. 1, the Edward Riley family moved into their home at 2509 Johnsburg Road. This was an older home to start with, but the Rileys put a lot of time into a complete "overhaul" job on the interior as well as the exterior. It turned out beautifully. The Riley family consists of Ed, who works in the Wheeling post office, his wife, Sherry, and their four children, Michael, 9, Brian 7, Earlene, 6, and Shawn, 4. This family formerly resided in Wheeling and enjoy a lot of outdoor sports as a group. We hope they Birthday Corner Belated wishes to Pete Oeffling who celebrated his birthday with his family on the 23rd. Stevie Himpelrnann turned 8 on the 21st of this month. Six young friends and his two brothers helped Billy Barth celebrate his tenth birthday recently. Mom and Dad Barth had all they could do to keep the hot dogs, chips, cake and ice cream coming for these growing boys. What appetites. Joining in on the games of the afternoon were Dennis Sisk, Billy Robel, Kevin Lowery, Mike Morley, Pat Zielinski, Jim Nelson, Neil and Scott Barth. Billy's birthday was actually on the 17th, but the party was held last Saturday. Cookie Sale Coming Up The Girl Scouts will be coming around in the very near future to take orders for their current cookie sale. Please be courteous to these young ladies. If you haven't tried their cookies, please do. They are very good. Michigan, Here We Come That's just where the Sam Tomasello family is heading this week. The occasion is the wedding of their son, Ricky Greig, on Saturday, Feb. 27. The ceremony will take place in the Sacred Heart church in Roseville where Ricky will claim Diane Stanley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Stanley, as his bride. The family will leave on Thursday so they will have plenty of time for those last minute details. Leaving on Friday for the wedding will be Dennis and Pat Ansell and their children, Mary Ellen Tomasello and Mrs. Dominick Tomasello. Dennis and Pat will both be participants in the wedding party as will the two young Tomasello girls, Sally SPRING GROVE NEWS EVA FREUND 678-7135 LOTUS CLUB VIEWS SLIDES OF EUROPEAN TOUR Members of the Lotus Country Woman's Club met at the Methodist church house on Wednesday, Feb. 17, with thirteen members and five guests present. A one o'clock luncheon was served by the hostesses, Frances Shotliff and Hazel Winn. Vice-President Frances Heineman presided in the absence of President Jeanette Helbling. A nominating committee was elected to choose the officers for the coming year. Mrs. Frank Dvorak of Fox Lake gave a program showing slides from a trip she and her . husband had taken on a tour through several European countries. At the Lotus club meeting previous to this one in the home of Mrs. William Komar eleven members were present. The club voted to give donations to Dr. Alva from India for a hospital project and to the Spring Grove elementary school for book shelves in their library. Colored slides were shown by Miss Sah Hanssen of Mexico, Brussels World Fair and scenes from Northwestern states. Mrs. * Marie Till also fell and required several stitches in ,her scalp. Magic Fair The PTA of Spring Grove school is planning a magic fair for Thursday, Feb. 25, at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited. Hospitalized Ben May is a patient in St. Joseph hospital, Elgin, where he underwent major surgery last week. He is convalescing very well and expects to be home soon. 500 Club Met at the home of Mrs. Minnie Pierce Feb. 18. The afternoon was spent at cards and prizes went to Mary Nimsgern, Minnie Pierce, Nora Miller, Josephine May and Evelyn May. and Doris. It should be a most enjoyable weekend for all. If all goes as has been planned, the newlyweds may come this way as part of the honeymoon trip. Then all Ricky's friends caffl^ meet his new wife. We wish this young couple nothing^ but health and happiness in tin* life ahead as Mr. and Mrs. Greig. Here We Go Again Things have been pretty quiet on the dog topic recently and I knew it was too good to last. Again as in the past we have quite a few dogs running loose. There isn't much to be said that hasn't been said in the past to these ca nine owners. Please take heed and keep your dogs where they belong -- at home. Robins In Hiding Again I should never have said anything about the robins being the sign of warm weather in the near future. With the falling temperatures on us again this past weekend, I think even the robins have curled up their tails and went into hiding for awhile - longer. Oh well, spring has" to come sometime. Rescue Squad Notes Two calls were answered within a short time of on? another over this past weekend by our own Johnrburg rescue squad members. At 7:50 p.m. on the 20th, the squad was called to River Terrace where a resident slipped on the T6e and suffered lacerations of the skull. The victim was taken into the McHenry hospital by the squad for further treat ment. On the 21st, at 12 ^ a.m. they were summoned to a home near Huemann's subdivision where a three month old baby suffered possible respiratory trouble and heart condition which proved fatal. These two calls pushed the running count up to 2,445. The safety tip from the rescue squad this week has to do with ice skating ponds. They urge parents to be sure to check where children are going skating to be certain the ice is safe. Also warn your children not to attempt to go out on ice that is questionably safe. A sad thing happened in Wonder Lake recently so please, parents, urge your young ones to use extreme caution when going out onto the ice. Vehicle Stickers Still Available Another reminder from the Johnsburg rescue squad that the 1965 vehicle stickers can be picked up at several business places in town at any time. These are available through efforts of the squad'. A warning to all drivers. If you do not have stickers on your windshield while driving through some towns, you may be subject to a ticket. Avert MCCUUOM LAKE NEWS EVE LEVESQUE 885-8101 FATAL HEART ATTACK CLAIMS LOCAL VISITOR Allan V. Bisbee, 71, of 5403 W. Shore Drive Was visiting at the home of Harold Morris located at 5300 W. Orchard Drive when he was stricken with an apparent heart attack last Wednesday about 7:30 p.m. Officer Kenneth Loesch was called to the scene and the McHenry Rescue Squad was summoned but all efforts to revive him failed. His obituary appears elsewhere in the Plaindealer. Heart Fund Drive Slated For Sunday Volunteer workers will be calling on residents this Sunday, Feb. 28, for your donation to the Heart Fund. Mrs. Theresa Schultz is in charge and will be aissisted by women of the Community. As the above story proves, heart diseases claim lives in every age bracket,, and funds are needed for research so it may be stamped out. Many youngsters are born every year with congenital heart defects, but thanks to heart fund dollars, many of these children can be, completely cured, or at least restored to useful existences. In the event you will not be home when your volunteer worker calls, please use the envelope which will be delivered and mail your contribution to the McHenry state bank. Your co-operation will be appreciated. Our Deepest Sympathy To twins, Gerald and Gregory Burg, on the untimely loss of their mother last Sunday. Mrs. Geraldine Burg, 67, died suddenly in her home in Chicago between 3:30 and 4 p.m. Her daughter Mary was with her. Funeral Mass was recited at St. Angela's church at 9:30 a.m. yesterday with burial in St. Joseph's cemetery, Elmwood Park. this now by picking up yours in the next day or so. There is more assurance of safety that goes along with these stickers. If something should happen to you while traveling, and you are unable to make identification, the proper authorities can contact the rescue squad. Through the number on your sticker, the squad can hasten identification. We hope this does not happen to any of us but it is a point to ponder. It is batter to be prepared. Mrs. Burg was the sole surviving one of three sisters who purchased adjoining property in the community in 1929; Mercedes Huska past away last year. Prior to her death, Mrs. Burg had been a patient at St. Elizabeth's hospital for a few days. In addition to her children, she also leaves eight grandchildren and one greatgrandchild. Former Resident Hospitalized In Woodstock Frank Rourke, * who was a resident here for many years until he moved his family to McHenry, suffered a heart attack at his place of employment and was rushed to Memorial Hospital for McHenry County two weeks ago today. He will be hospitalized for four more weeks with another six weeks convalescence at home. According to reports on him, he is coming along slowly but steadily. Time weighs heavily and we're sure he would appreciate cheery notes. Mailtime is very important to heart patients. Ticketing For Old Plates Begins Monday According to Chief Earl Murray, officers will start ticketing motorists displaying old license plates on Monday, March 1. According to the ruling which comes from the Secretary of State, the plates MUST be installed on the vehicle and not merely displayed in your car. Although the - new vehicle stickers are not due, village clerk Emma Pyritz urges residents not to wait until the last minute to obtain same. The deadline is March 31. Final Filing Date For Village Offices, March 1 This Monday, March 1, is the last date for anyone who wishes , to run for village office to file that intent with the village clerk. Offices to be filled include that of president, village clerk, three trustees for four years, and one two year trustee. To date, two complete slates will appear on the ballot, "April 20. The last date to withdraw is March 6. Quaifications of the candidates will be published in a later column. Village' Board Meets Because of the holiday Feb. 22, the village board will meet this coming Monday, March 1, at 8 p.m. in the beachhouse. The public is invited. Double Celebration Dewey Fricke was feted for his birthday at the home of his daughter and husband--the Carl Blums--on Feb. 7. The relatives and friends who gathered for the champagne soiree were also celebrating Carl's recovery from major surgery. The party was held in Piano.
